I'mm looking for a retired 9C1 (i think thats the code) caprice just to mess around with. i know that they should be pretty cheap and i see them a lot on ebay real cheap. but does anyone know of a place around here where i can pick one up for little $$$?

i remember seeing a bunch of totalled chicago cop cars on the way to the chicago auto show...they looks mostly to be bullet holes and rear end damage, they were on the east side of the road in an impound, all of them were chicago police vehicles and all were totalled...you might be able to find out eactly where it is from a chicago native, and you could probally work out a deal somehow...i assume your just wanting one for the drivetrain, so those would be perfect... hth

You should check out the Lake County Sherrif's auction (the first couple weeks of June. It is held at the County yard, NW corner of 21 (milwaukee) and Winchester.
Lots of cop car stuff there.
Auction is usually run by Obenauf Auctions, check their website. I bought a 93 350 cop motor (TBI) with only 6,000 miles on it last year for $475- the poor guys bidding against me didn't have a clue what they were bidding on.
Best of luck, though most of the cop cars I see now are crown vics.

hey thanks i checked their website and it didn't say anything about a lake county sheriff auction- had a couple highway dept auctions coming up- but i'm really looking for a complete car that runs just to mess around with and maybe use as a winter car. i'll look around some more and maybe i'll ask if i run into a cop somewhere. i would really like a caprice over a crown vic, but i'm really not picky (even if i have to settle for a cheap ford i find)

The auction they had last year was on June 1st. Keep an eye out for signs or call them later on towards June. They do sell complete cop cars- I don;t know what will be on this years bill specifically-
