Renamed your thread. "Location" was a bit vague.

OUTATIME GTA - Yea sure I might be young (22), but I do know a little bit about the camaro's just not particularly the 2.8l v6... I know the 305 and 350s pretty well in fact I have built a couple different carbed motors for my cars... I just moved here from Alabama so I am just trying to find more out about the car I recently purchased.

Welcome 89camaro88 I have a 89 Camaro RS 2.8 , There are at lease 18 members with the 2.8 and 3.1 V6 here at the third gen. So if you have any questions, everyone is really helpful. Great bunch of people here. So feel free to ask any question and post pic's to get great answers.

89Camaro88 - No age offense intended, it was more of a we only know 1 dude anywhere close to there and that he's prob not the avid 3rd genner you're looking to meet and talk cars with.

We do have a great tech board strictly for the V6 that can answer any question you may have, but unfortunately you won't find many locals in your exact area.

Re: Anyone on here from the Sparks/ Reno Nevada area?

Ok well thank you for the help. I do have a question though... Today I was driving on the interstate when my car just decided to shut off it does have a new fuel filter and was running great before today. It would start but would immediately sputter unless you held the gas half throttle then it would run but when you let off of the throttle it would immediately start sputtering again. So I just had it towed to my house. What would cause this?

It has been shifting late at around 4500 rpms and has slow acceleration issues...

Re: Anyone on here from the Sparks/ Reno Nevada area?

A couple suggestions first. People on our board want to glance over to the left and see the basic info on your F-body, so go and finish filling in that info so we know what year and model info. Second, you're going to want to start a new thread for this. And a third; there are dumbashes like, well, just glance down a couple threads at the last guy who asked for our help and ended up wasted our time, so be sure to post that you've done a full fledged tune-up, pulled the rats nest out of the intake, etc so that board members have a specific place to start; okay? Just get that User Info finished first. Good Luck!

Re: Anyone on here from the Sparks/ Reno Nevada area?

I'm not familiar with your fuel supply system, but from what you described, you seem to be in the correct area with the 'fuel filter' idea. *BUT* it's clean and fresh, and I'll assume that you've done a recent complete full tune-up that includes new wires, new cap & rotor, etc? (Chip in anytime if I'm wrong here on any part(s) of this.

So let's move further on to the fuel delivery system. If you have fuel injectors, this is the proper time to take the old om resister tester out and check resistance at each injector. You'll have to use the 'SEARCH' feature to get the exact resistance break off point (I think it might be 11). Anything there or lower tells you it's time to replace it.

Also, just on a looooong shot; as it's now hot weather time, have you had any high temperature running issues with that engine? Someone else I know had all of his injectors show up as bad, which is improbable. It turned out that he had been dealing with an overheating issue and the injector 'o' rings had cooked, causing all the problems.

Post Script: As an unrelated subject; you've moved to a bit of a miserable area when it comes to speeding violation monitoring. I hope you've invested in a quality radar detector. I personally love using my Valentine One in that area due to the duel anteena's and the multiple count of how many radar signals it's reading and in what direction they're all coming from. Other wise I'd never dare to open it up to 155 mph right after leaving Carson
Let me know what else we can come up with to help your little engine make it's Mad Max entrance through those mountain passes. This is the Red Camaro we're discussing, isn't it? Good Luck and Happy Fourth! Nitro-Nicky

Re: Anyone on here from the Sparks/ Reno Nevada area?

Thanks Neagan... Yes it was red now it is flat black primer... One of my buddies here has a 3.1 he said it could of been my coolant temp sensor that shut my car down due to my thermostat possibly not opening up... could this be the case?

Re: Anyone on here from the Sparks/ Reno Nevada area?

Yep. That's the b*tch with these cars. It can always be one of several things. That's definitly worth doing a "SEARCH" on to see if it's happened to others here on the V6 board.

I live down in Gardnerville/Minden area, just south of Carson City. We all really need to get a show and shine going in the area. I'm really tired of these Corvette dudes running everything. PM me if interested.

I live in Sparks and have a third gen. I haven't ever really done a car show with my car but I do race in the Reno region of the SCCA. If you are interested in learning to drive your car fast on a track in a controlled environment we offer instructional track days which are an absolute blast. The season just ended so we wont be doing it again until next April but if that sounds fun to you then check out www.renoscca.org

Re: Anyone on here from the Sparks/ Reno Nevada area?

Ya i'd be happy to keep you guys posted. Next spring i'll put a reminder up here. It would be awesome to see some more third gens out there, i'm always the only one. There is a 4th gen that usually goes but never any thirdgens. If you haven't seen the road course out at Fernley, its awesome. 4.2 miles long and so much fun. There is nothing more rewarding than smokin cars that were 5 times as expensive as ours. You dont need any prior experience or safety equipment (if you have a helmet bring it, but we have a few loaners as well). Its a very controlled environment, no rubbing fenders or any of that. Anyways, its always a ton of fun so come out. Here is a pic of my car below just in case you see me around town. I've got the cowl hood on it now, one picture shows the original Iroc hood.

That would be a great get together. Especially if we weren't out of place not to run our cars "all out" if we don't have the brakes up to that potential etc.
costs to run?
