89 Formula back! Lots of pics
Whats up everybody,
My name is Alex and I belong to an F-Body car club in the East Bay called XTINCTION. I have known about TGO for a while just haven't really been on here much in years until recently. The reason being I just re-acquired my first third gen i ever owned and the first car i ever built.
I bought the car from the original owner and she started life out as an 89 Formula LB9, TPI, Auto, Drum brake 2:73. In 2001 When I started learning about cars the first thing was ditch the original rear end. I swapped in a 91 1LE 3:42 posi disc brake rear end. This helped but not too much. I then bought a donor 87 T/A 5 speed car and did the T5 conv. This also helped and made it more fun to drive however I was still getting spanked by every mustang and camaro on the road and it was getting old!
So I decided to build an engine for her a 92 350 2 bolt main out of a camaro a b4c i believe. All machine work was done, all new parts on engine freeze plugs etc, new hyperucraptic ( I did not know any better at the time I was young) pistons, Accel Super Ram, Big lumpy Crane cam, Crane cam adj. fuel pressure regulator, smog bye bye, AC bye bye, 1.5 Crane Cam gold pro race roller rockers, Edelbrock aluminum heads (again young didnt know) SLP 1 5/8 headers, Borla adjustable exhaust, deleted cats, full roll cage (I planned on road racing it) and at the time a set of ROH snypers! The car was Awesome it actually won 2nd place at the Trans-O-Rama car show in sacramento in 2002.
Stupid me I decided to go and get married. So I sold the car to a guy who turned out to be a friend over the years because I wanted to know how the car was doing. Well here it is 6 or 7 years later he calls me up and says he wants to sell it. Part of the deal was when I sold it to him was if he ever decided to sell it I get first shot to buy it back. Well I am no longer married so WTF i bought it back and realized how much i missed her and never should have sold her. Well lesson learned. On April 17 I brought her back. Now I must warn you the condition I brought her back was no where close to what I had sold her at. Some of the following pics may contain content not for the faint of heart but keep in mind that the drive train has less than 20k on it! The first pic is of the Trans-O-Rama car show in 2002. The rest are of just a few days ago when I got her back.
What do you guys think lost cause? Strip her and clean up all the parts and build another 3rd gen? Or shes not too far gone bring her back?
Looking forward to getting to know some of you guys on here.
Alex

Re: 89 Formula back! Lots of pics
Welcome back Alex. Make sure to check out the stickies and provide your email in there for future events to meet up.
Good story and really mirrors mine with my Firebird and buying it back. I didn't get married though, haha.
I think I missed the 2002 show. I entered the 2001 with my Firebird below and then 2003 with my GTA after I sold the Firebird.
Just remember. ..What is old can be made new again. My Firebird was driven to oblivion by the person I sold it to, but I am hopeful it's worth a restore someday.

Welcome Alex, never heard of XTINCTION and I'm all over the East Bay, but I'm more of a lone wolf, the only member of my wolfpack, on the hunt for strippers and cocaine.
Paint the 'Bird and rock it!

Del,
Thats crazy that we missed each other by one year. My tattoo was a huge hit there that year. Its still up on their website! I would like to keep her and restore her but after 10 + years I have lost my S**G connection! So now I have no idea what I am going to do with her.

Crackin' me up Vin. You're a perfect example of a 3rd gen back from the dead. I always smile thinkin' about 10 thirdgens encompassed in our 2.
You'll definitely have to meet up sometime Alex. Some funny similarities. You an X-files fan too? Ha! I took second place in 2003 for my GTA, but my tat wasn't on yet, HAHA.
Plaque hangs in my office and well, the tat hangs on my undefined arm.

Joeys gotta point Del..
At any rate, welcome back dude and fix it! Of course I can't see all the detail with the interior, but looks like it could use good steam cleaning and the motor also, then refreshed with some new bolts. Think of the love that got u this far.. think about it.

Ahh, snap! That looks way better than my 2nd place plaque. That was the t-shirt design that year I remember.
There were a lot of garage queens there with super low miles that got the 1st places I recall.
