Air Force is sending me to Misawa, Japan... Poor Bird
Well, after finding out my compression was low in 2 cylinders after basic, seems like she will be sitting for a while. I got a 3 year tour there.
I was kinda hoping for state side to stay a bit closer to my family, and finish up the bird for my dad. But ended up with Misawa. I will make the best of it. But seems like the bird is going to be parked for a few years. I will pull the engine, and get that figured out in the little time ill have home, and possible just spend the next 3 years on body work, and ordering misc stuff for it.
Ill keep everyone post on whats going on. I have been looking at AWD imports... it snows alot in Misawa from what I have read. So possible a Skyline, or Subaru.
But like I said, I will make the best of it, its not forever... The bird will be parked... AND NOT SOLD! Just put on hold for a while. Plus, living in Japan, I will recieve COLA which is a Cost of living allowance...

With tensions between China and Japan rising, hope nothing happens. Get a Subaru with some studded snow tires so you can rally that sucker around town lol Good luck over there!

Bummer you couldn't stay close to home, but probably not a surprise when you're at the bottom.
Glad to hear you will keep the 'bird and keep working towards a goal with it.
Keep us posted as always.

Its all good. I wish I could have been close to home, but its not going to get me down. I plan on having an awesome time. And I will still be accumulating my LsX swap parts...
Now time to start looking for a 1972 and older Datsun 510... Imma build one in japan with a nice little turbo engine.

Has nothing to do with being "at the bottom." Senior personnel as junior personnel are needed at all of the bases around the world.

Re: Air Force is sending me to Misawa, Japan... Poor Bird
Steve, I may just get stuck buying either a Skyline R34 or an STI when I get there if I cant get a hold of a decent 510. And for DK... in Misawa everything I have read suggests an AWD of 4X4... so no drifting for me. Will go to some Drift competitions in Tokyo though!
Vinny, I hope I don't turn Japanese... I still plan on smoking imports when I get back... Being stuck in Japan for a while, I think imma have to get used to an import for awhile and forget my addiction to Thirdgens.
James, Thanks! And nice Camo paint! I can't wait to head on over!
I do still plan on pulling my engine out and seeing what is wrong with it. If I can get away with honing it, I may do it real quick and slap it back in for now. So anyone who wanted to come down and help in December, it is still going down!

When you're in Japan, aren't you the import and they're the domestics? All jokes aside, have fun while you're over there. My advice is to take advantage of all the travel opportunities. There are some cool places to visit over there. During my stops in Japan, I visited ground zero in Nagasaki and the Fukomoto castle (where they filmed the Last Samuri).

Re: Air Force is sending me to Misawa, Japan... Poor Bird
I plan on seeing all the awesome places and tourist spots...
I would bring a thirdgen over there, but the Fee's just to get it converted so I can drive it around japan would be over 5k, and about the same coming back to the US, and quite frankly, I would rather just buy a skyline or something there and tear it up and sell it when I come back and Finish the Formula. If I can ill try and bring a skyline back, but with the way DMV is, its nearly impossible and very expensive to get done.
So Japanese car in Japan, and Formula in America for when I get back.

Don't forget the COLA (which is about an extra $400 a month).

We are all very proud of Bullydawg for continuing his families tradition of serving their country. Did Bullydawg tell you his Uncle converted a '93 Mazda RX-7 into an LS-2 rocket sled?

Its only been like 7 and a half months or so. I graduate tech school in december which is my 9 month mark. Then about 2 years in japan.
So far, I have a nice zexel 4th gen rear 3.42, and a 4th gen tank waiting for install when I get home.

Re: Air Force is sending me to Misawa, Japan... Poor Bird
Quick update.
I really like it here. I love the snow and cold weather, and they have some sweet cars here. I ended up with a Subaru... 5 Speed AWD Turbo. Its okay, but I really miss Torque.
I did end up getting the engine pulled when I was home on leave in December, AND rebuilt it. Then I left to go to Japan. Went home on Emergency leave, and managed to put the new engine in... Which runs VERY strong by the way. I also managed to fry my tranny. So 6 speed and prep for paint next time I am home.
So far, its all good. I have been in 1 year and 2 months now. I am enjoying myself here and having a car, I can now explore.

Re: Air Force is sending me to Misawa, Japan... Poor Bird
Just an update. I ended up buying and selling a few cars here and making some money. I ended up with a 98 STI running 20 PSI of boost. Hits full boost by 3400rpm too... Pretty fun car in the snow and blast to take snowboarding.
And update on the Formula...
I am currently trying to piece together a T56 swap for when I come home in June. It will be getting professionally painted after I get back to Japan in July. Stock paint with all new weather stripping and such installed.
I will take more pictures out here of my STI. I have a ton of pictures of places I have been, and a ton of video footage of some drift events and me snowboarding.
