Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

So...I will be heading out to the redding dragstrip tonight(I won tix on the radio, gotta love hick'sville where a radio prize is tickets to the local dragstrip) they are having "street legal" racing tonight so if I can grow a pair I think I will find out what a stock 82 t/a with cfi can do. hopefully something less than 19 sec @ 65 It's my commuter, so I will not be going apes**t, don't want to be stuck in the caravan again. http://reddingdragstrip.com/
I'll try to get Jennifer to get some pics to share

How is the strip up there, about the same as Sac?

I'm heading to Sac tonight to watch some of the Nostalgia Eliminator drags.

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

It's a little slower, smaller facility, mostly gravel parking with some concrete pads here and there, I love it. Not a big crowd like Sac so you can get a lot of runs in if you want. Not a whole lot of lighting at night and 15-20 bucks to get in and run your car.

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

well the car is consistent:5 runs Best 16.173 @83.91 worst 16.317@84.55
reaction time best .17374 worst .98032(first run of my life forgot which was the gas, oh ya an green does mean go)
I could have done a lot more runs there were not many cars out tonight, but I don't want to hurt my car
Cost $5 per person to get in and $10 for tech card to race
I will try to post a vid soon

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

I'll try and go up there for 9/25 with the Camaro and hope to go up at least one more time before the season ends. Trying to get my '66 El Camino looking decent enough to take up there lol It needs a new windshield, seat belts and the steering figured out to be safe enough to run.

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

We will try it again. Redding drag strip tomorrow night (10/9), both cars are running good and itching to race. This time the tickets came from the local Hip-Hop station(I really love Hick's-ville) we will try to see who's car is better. 82 t/a with a 700r4 swap or 83 z28 with a t-5 swap and low rear end gears, I think she will win. last time I got "spanked" by strangers....

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

Well it was a S**TY night at the strip, the night started with me changing the cap on My T/A in the parking lot or a tattoo parlor(don't ask not much to do in redding) the track was busy with trucks, motorcycles, and street cars. On my first run my tires spun half way down the track, and when I picked up my time slip an offical told me that I left a trail all the way down the track. I looked and looked and not a drop on my car. aftre following the trail in the pits I found two guys cussing an bitching under a 2nd gen that went 2 cars ahead of me. anyway I did not better my previous time or speed.
Jennifer only took one run she got 18.51@75.72 really not bad considering the track was messed up, open diff, and she needs some rear suspension work. anyone know how to get rid of wheel-hop?

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

The best thing I know is a good set of shocks and some tubular lower control arms. You can also box your stock ones and put some poly bushings in them. Also check your LCA angle they need to be pointing down towards the rear end. if they arent they you need to buy some LCA relocation brackets. I did all of that absolutely no wheel hop!

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

That what I was tell Walter after my REALLY CRAPPY run. I had a full tank to help with weight and my girlfriend as a passanger. We hopped the whole way down the bleachers! Walter said he heard one of my tires spinning most of the way. Shock are a definite and poly bushings a MUST.Need new tires also. Won't be ready for another run until next season. He keeps telling me to put in a limited slip, but I am afraid of the rain, his scares the crap of of me. I don't think he want to break down next to a tattoo parlor again. I got my tung pierced.

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

You don't need tubular control arms to get rid of wheel hop. All that's needed is a right foot mod, for starters First time out for me it was a wheel hopping mess the first couple of passes. A friend told me to just quickly roll into the throttle the next time. Result? no wheel hop and the best times of the night. Eventually did put in poly bushings which really helped the feel of the car, boxed the stock arms and then added the relocation brackets. Only ran the 305 one night at the track and the rest have been with the 350. Still running the same rear shocks of unknown age or kind that came with the car when I bought it. Heck, they might even be the factory shocks for all I know, same with the front struts.

Posi in the rain, don't be scared of it. I couldn't hardly drive my car WITHOUT it in the rain. Put one in and when it does rain, find a big open lot to have some fun in and learn some car control.

Re: Redding Drag strip TONIGHT

Yeah, I know I need a right foot mod. But it was my 1st ever run. Had a 1.5 sec reaction time. That was not good. 1st-4th I shifted @ 4500rpm.
Either way I need 2 rear tires and shocks, our dirt road is killing my car. Got her all waxed and really nice to end up super dusty when I got to the track.
We got there at 6:30, didn't get to race until after 8.
