Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

My name is Conrad, Technically its my last name but its what everyone has called me since I was a kid. I do a lot of Mechanic work on top of whatever job I have at the time. I move a lot so this changes. I plan on going to UTI or Wyotech eventually. Haven't decided. I just recently got my first 3rd gen that I have been eyeballing for years. Its a 91 rs, V6 auto. the whole car has 217xxx miles on it. But the engine is running strong (After ICM, distributor cap, new battery) And all else seems well. The body is in BEAUTIFUL condition, the paint being a very nice red, unblemished for the most part. No parts missing. The reason I've settled with this third gen after wanting one since I was a kid is simply, it was free The car was acquired by my father a few years back as collateral on a loan or something, and I always wanted it so bad but it was not his to sell technically so I thought I would have to find another. Recently after doing alot of work for my dad while he was out of town, he heard from the owner of the car, who told him to just keep it. It was then my dad offered it to me in payment of the work. The interior needs replacing for the most part (Functional but ugly and destroyed) but thanks to members from TGO I am planning a complete 4th gen interior swap (Or at least all I can within reason). I also plan on buying a new motor and trans, At the same time swapping the rear end, Hopefully for a good 9 bolt. In the end I should have a near brand new, 21 year old car. (Just like me)

Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

1. Tell us your name? Chris
2. What do you do for a living (job/schooling)? USAF, was a F-16 Fuel Mechanic for 4 years, crosstrained when I came to California, now I'm a paralegal for the Air Force.
3. Tell us what 3rd gen you have. 1984 Z28
4. How long have you had it? Too long according to the wife. Since 2000 I think, was my first car in high school and I never sold it. It's been painted 3 times (about to be number 4 after the motor work is done), undergone 3 motor swaps, 2 tranny swaps, 3 rear end swaps, and numerous other changes.
5. What is your goal with it? Short term to get it back on the road again, long term to get it presentable.

Heres the current photos, I have most the body work done, just minor fitment fiberglass work for the hood. Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!-b2.jpg

Heres the motor Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!-af.jpg however I am now getting a new bottom end (383) due to this piston. Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!-wp_000070.jpg

Thanks for having me.

Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

What's going on everybody? My name is Carl and I'm in Santa Rosa. I was working for a VW shop but business is so slow that I am on the hunt for another job.

My 3rd gen is a 1987 Iroc-z with tpi/700r4. My dad bought the car new and it has sat in a garage for most of it's life. It has 43,xxx original miles and runs like a top. My dad died in an accident and I got the car, but it has taken me the last 5 years to find the pink slip, so now I can register it.

The only plans that I have for now is to replace all the fluids and drive it. When time and money become available I would like to swap the auto out for a t56.

1. Angel
2. I'm a community organizer at a nonprofit org & I'm a senior in high school
3. I have an auto 92 rs with a 305 & someday I want an 85-90 trans am too
4. I've had it for 9 months. It's my first car. I had to choose between this camaro for 900 & a BMW 3 series For 1700 & of course I chose the maro but not just cause of the price lol. it was hella mistreated by the previos owner but I'm treating it like my baby. I was about to trade it for a 68 merc cougar but ended up not doing it & ever since then I've decided to keep it til I'm an old fart.
5. My goal is to build an ls3 for it just the way I want it, paint it dark gunmetal, swap a t56 into it, do all that suspension & chassis stiffening stuff lol & make it as light as possible so it can sh-t on ricers But in the meantime I might just get a 350 tpi & 6 speed for it while I save for a daily driver

1. Jeff Morris
2. Mechanical engineer. Working now in the solar thermal industry.
3. 1988 IROC-Z, dark red, T-Tops, L98, 700r4
4. Have had it for 11 years.
5. Goals are to make it faster than stock but very reliable. I don’t want to have to go out wrenching on the car all the time. I want to keep the TPI system to and increase its performance. Some people say it’s old and I should get rid of it but, I like it. It has served me well. The torque from the TPI system is excellent! It’s a good system just needs to be matched and paired with the right running gear. I would like to put on 1LE style brakes on the front and the ’89 up style PBR rear brakes at some point.

I don’t really have any good pics of my car. This car is close to what my car looks like though. It’s dark red. Mine has the gold IROC badges on the door with black/red accent stripes. Never seen another car like that before. On the message boards I have been told that this is not a stock combination. I like it. I haven’t seen another combination like it before. I’ll have to take some decent pics of my car and upload them.

I give you Norcal guys kudos. Im just outside of Cleveland, Oh. and rarely get a response on my local boards. I am a painting contractor that specializes in wall murals and have had art shows displaying paintings of classic GM musclecars at Cleveland area dealerships. I have an 83 Z28 in my garage which progress has been slow with funds. I have a 350 crate engine for it and hope to get it on the road this year. Third gens rock!

Always nice to see new faces out at GTG's and new member's posting about their projects.

Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

Hi, my name is Chris. I am a crew chief in the US Airforce and I have a 1989 Camaro RS with a 305 TBI 5.0 V8 that I have had for going on 10 months now. I've been working on it a little here and there when I can. I have a couple mods done but nothing major. The most expensive thing I have done is the exhaust which is 3" in/out magnaflow high flow cat with xlerator muffler dual out. My goal with the car is to make it a "street racer"/show car. Still have a way to go in my opinion. The paint is all original with a couple blemishes but its tolerable so I'm ok with the looks right now just focusing on power now then some looks after I get it where I want it. Any suggestions would help greatly. Thanks!

P.S.
I can't seem to put a picture on here so if you would like to see it just visit my garage.

I guess I've owned it for about 4 years now. It started out as a stock 350 Formula, now it has a 406 that's ready for the bottle.
Check out the 11.4 on the glass, alot has happened since then. Since then we sprayed the **** out of that engine. We ran a consistent 11.4 on the motor, and a best of 10.1 on the bottle. killed a few pistons since then, but now we know better, and the new engine runs 10.50's on the motor, and still trying to dial it in, and see what it does on the juice.

BTW still a Full Service Auto Repair Facility, Anything from oil change to engine rebuild, Rocklin Automotive, Goodyear has you covered..

Gorgeous car....you have the exact car that I want down to the color. =\

I had the same car when I lived in Arizona ...till the WRX in front of me decided to do a U turn into my passenger seat... sad times.

Kevin
F.A.A. Mission Specialist (I'm flown around so I can study navigational radio waves)
1992 L03 Heritage Edition
Bought it brand new in Vogelweh, Germany. Its first 30K miles had to average close to 100MPH. Now has around 140K miles.
I replaced the clutch, distributor, water pump and radiator because I had to. Replaced brake discs & drums, lines, calipers and such just because.
Needs new paint and headliner. I'd like to make it a little more powerful, just don't know how to do it. Suggestions are welcome.

Just FYI all - I merged the "what do you do for work" thread with this thread, since it's all the same introduction type stuff.

Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

Hello all just thought I'd finally introduce myself after being a member for six months. lol. Name's Brian although online I usually go by Bromopar (old nick, too lazy to change it). I work in Fremont at the Tesla plant building batteries for the Model S.

About six months ago now I found quite by accident a 1989 Pontiac Firebird SSA on Craigslist. The car had sat for two years in the back of an old auto parts shop and the owner finally had to sell it. It wasn't running and had been a rat motel for most of that time so the interior was literally tore up from the floor up. Once I saw her though I didn't care about any of that, I had to have her.

When she first came home:

Six months and $3,200 later:

The only thing not in these pictures is the racing seat that I'm still figuring out how to install. Still got a long way to go but so far Jean Grey (that's what I named her) is showing some real promise.

Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

I think I should've done this back when i had my 88 IROC in 04 lol

1. John
2. UTI Grad working at GTI as a level 1 Diesel Technicain
3. I've owned a 85 IROC with a 383, an 88 IROC with a 350, an 87 Z28 with a 305H.O., a 97 RS, a 2000 SS and now I only have my 2001 SS roller
4. My 2001 I've had for a little over a year in the garage on car dollies under a car cover
5. Build a forged engine and build a t56 with the same drive gear ratios as a z06 and install a 9" or 12 bolt with 3.91's and be a weekend cruiser for twisty roads and maybe get into road courses.
Here was my 85 IROC, I was 19 and didn't know squat about cars

Here was the 88 IROC, I was 20 and was starting to learn some stuff

My 2000 SS i owned for 7 years bought her bone stock in 2005 and did every modification to it from suspension to dropping in a newer engine due to hydro-locking the original engine. The car was sold with the original trans and rear end reading 191k and still going strong

Name: P8260532.jpg
Views: 315

and now my 2001 SS with only 55k

Hi my name is Gilbert L.
I work for Barrister Global as an independent contractor fixing PCs and Printers of all types. Also work my but off in seasonal work in a plant.
I own a 1988 Camaro RS with a V6 2.8L with a 700R4.
I own the car for about four years now
I been wanting to paint the car a new color I buff it to bring back the red shine. The only mods I have done is exhaust, air flow, and tune ups. I want to either keep the V6 or just work on the 79 Z28 in the garage.

Re: Nor-Cal intro thread - Tell us about you and your 3rd gen!

Hey guys, Levi from Fremont, just got ahold of an 88 RS, 305 TBI.. and so far its a definite fixer upper.. Ive already purchased an LQ4 out of a 05 chevy 2500 express.. as soon as my 3000GT is done from being under the knife, im gonna begin my build and tear down the block, do the necessaries for the bottom end, push rods, and l92 heads.. not sure about going t56 or 4l60 as this is a budget build, and will definitely take it down to 7th street in oakland as for now its a daily monster that gets me from home to work and then the gym.. I work over at Pepboys, and am soon to be getting into the shop. yall have probably seen my camaro driving around with a white bumper and pearl white fender. Im pretty active on the Norcal3s board and when i found there was a legit 3rd gen forum, i was pretty excited. hopefully once i have the swap done, my beastly beauty will be decent enough to make it to the meets.. ATM it would be shameful to show up to a meet in the present condition lol

I'm certainly not new to the board, but sorta new to NorCal (3yrs) and the car IS new to NorCal.

I moved out here in April 2012, and left the car back in Boston while I figured out my new life in CA. That took 3yrs! It showed up here in Santa Cruz a few weeks ago, so now it's a NorCal car!
