My car will be down a 'little' longer..

Blame Marc..
He showed me this article in chevy hi-performance on FASTS somewhat new EZ-EFI and how accurate it was against a self tuned system. Well, I did some research and discovered although EZ-EFI would simplify things for me so much, it had no ignition or boost control. So after some poking around, I found that Holley is coming out with a brand new EFI line, the Avenger/HP/Dominator.
I have fallen in love with what the HP EFI can do for me!
Some of the key features that caught my attention:
• Ignition Plug and Play with GM 24x and 58x LSx
engines, GM HEI, Ford TFI, magnetic and hall effect
trigger, and other ignition systems.
• 1-5 Bar MAP sensor capability
• Dedicated fuel and oil pressure inputs
• Speed density, Alpha-N, or combination
fueling strategies
• Configurable for: dual cooling fans, dual fuel pumps,
AC inputs, basic TCC lockup, and multiple timing
retard inputs and rev limiters
• Vehicle speed inputs
• User programmable caution and warning outputs
for all sensors
• 4 Stage nitrous oxide control
- Fully featured nitrous control eliminates the need
for a separate nitrous controller device
- Can be configured “Wet” or “Dry” with
- Progressive control based on time, RPM, or boost,
• Integrated Water/Methanol injection control
- Uses Holley Water/Meth solenoids specially
designed and calibrated for use with this EFI system
to allow the user to enter Water/Meth fl ow as a
percentage of fuel injector fl ow for Water/Meth
tuning precision unmatched in the industry

So basically, it does it all, works with boost, nitrous, water/meth..

I just sold my megasquirt over the weekend already so I might be one of the first people here on TGO with a new Holley EFI.

They only started just shipping out a week ago thats how new it is.
Pretty cheap too.. A retrofit kit for people like us is ~1400 and that is including a 6" touchscreen so you wouldnt ever even need a laptop.
about ~1100 without the touchscreen.
I'm going without for now as I have a nice laptop for tuning anyways.
If anyone is skeptical about how good 'self tuning' can really be.. check out this link at chevytalk http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/sh...hp?tid/238732/
He installed a dominator and just read the real world results
self tuning is the future imo!
see ya on the wayside!

How much longer is a "'little longer" ?

I hope it's as awesome as you're hoping Trav and not what the guys in the other board were eluding to.

http://www.3rdgen.org/bb/showthread....ss&daysprune=7

I'm definitely interested in learning more about it if you have some success.

Re: My car will be down a 'little' longer..

Curious to see how this works, looks like a good system but the self tuning thing will depend on how good the base map is to start with. It needs some reference point to compare sensor readings so a base map still needs to be close to get the car up and running.

Other than that, good ideas with these systems finally allowing wideband input to verify how good the fuel tables are and making changes automatically.

Re: My car will be down a 'little' longer..

I agree there is alot to know about EFI tuning, more than I care to know, but when the MegaJunk system asks you to type in Algorithms and other words I cant spell, thats when there is too much BS in there.

Oh BTW when you ask for help from MSD, Accell, Aeromotive, or anybody else for that matter, and they ask "what system are you running?"
And you say Megasquirt, they stop talking to you or they say your problem is in your Fuel managment system. And you know what, they're right.

Throw that **** in then garbage, if you can sell it, more power to you.

For people that have nothing better to do that spend forever trying to figure it out, knock yourself out. for people that just want to finally drive they're car go buy something else.

NOBODY TUNES OR KNOWS HOW TO TUNE MS, IF THEY SAY THEY KNOW THEY ARE FULL OF ****. PROVE IT SOME PLACE ELSE THAN AN ONLINE FORUM.

NOBODY RUNS THIS ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry for the excessive use of exclaimation points!

POST THAT ON YOU MS FORUM, AND BLOW IT OUT OF YOUR A$$.

On the spot right here. It's great if you want to learn every in and out of Fuel injection down to the pulse widths, linear coil pulses and IAC steps, go for it, but if you are tired of learning and trying and crossing the fingers and getting it running (like i did) but not sure if you ever will be on spot. Forget it, I need something that is NOW. In the short term, I may be down a bit longer, but in the long run, it will be running like a champ once its in. I wont be driving a limped car to meets or track days ever.

Orr89RocZ-Check out the EFI forums in Chevytalk.com for someone that already has hands on experience, Didnt even need to bust out the laptop for his 500+ci engine.
Another video showed a motor that had a base map plugged in, and they cut all the fueling by half, and let the auto tune go at it, and it picked it back up in only two dyno pulls.
You say it needs a base map that is close so it can work, but with this system, 'close' can be quite far off

Re: My car will be down a 'little' longer..

I'm mainly talking about initial start up and idle to get the car running. Sometimes that isnt easy but it sounds like this system can handle just about anything. As long as you can fire it up it will make the changes.

My question is how does it know to tune for a certain air fuel ratio? Do you have to input the desired air fuel ratios you want to shoot for? If those are the only things you need to input, this system will make life very easy.

Looks like a nice setup. I thought about going to the ez-efi down the road, but looks like this is quite a bit better.

Cheaper also.

exactly, an 16x16 AFR table.
edit as desired, and let it do its own thing on a 31x31 VE table
