Trade? L98 for truck?

I have an 83 Chevy Scottsdale I don't need. It was a lien sale and ALL of the Cali paper work is done. All that needs to be done to register is smog and pay the back fees of $513. The steering column is a bit wobbly but driveable and reverse seems to come and go. I was going to fix these and resell but I want the formula running, like now. I am looking for an L98 with injection/computer and hopefully a harness.
It has a 350/350 combo, 6" Rancho lift, and good wheels and tires.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

Cash price? There are always people around here looking for trucks like that, if you would like to e-mail me a flyer of some type I'll post it up around for you. I would love to have it myself, but cash is tight for me right now too.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

I have my L98 long block still. No intake system though.. well, I have it all but the runners and TB. And no harness/ECM. I might accept trades, let me know what you got. Obviously it's not worth what your truck is worth.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

I would even trade for a set of alminum heads and intake. I have the 355 in the car but I have the 191 heads which are 76cc. I want a smaller chamber. If I had heads and the roller stuff (actually I might have some of it) then I could use my engine since it has around 25k on it. I want to do stealthram if I can get the cash for Marcs.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

I can hook you up with stock iron L98 heads (64cc chamber) and stock roller lifters/retainers/hardware/pushrods if you're interested in that. I wouldn't mind keeping my block as a spare anyway, but I have better heads so no need to hold onto the L98s.

All of the smog is there, just needs a few vacuum lines and plugs plugged back in.

Jeremy, how much for the heads and roller crap?

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

I haven't done anything with the L-98 I got from Santa Rosa. It's sitting in my garage on the stand. It came with the wiring harness, pulleys, brackets, ECM and TPI minus the plenum. My wife likes the truck and is interested. I'm not nuts about another smog vehicle, but if the price is right, I might consider it. Would you meet me 1/2 way. My zip is 93446. P.S. How's Spiderman?

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

I don't even care about getting money for it. I just want an engine I can drop into the formula and drive. I wouldn't mind meeting up. I will mapquest it though.

Wasn't there something wrong with that engine or was it more miles than advertised when you bought it?

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

This would'nt be a motor to "drop" into anything and drive. RU-QWIK did a dry compression test on it with a wide range of #'s. I was under the impression, when I bought it, that I could "drop" it into my IROC. I was told it was running when it was pulled. My plan "B" was to rebuild it for my IROC and use that one to do my next project. I want all my older cars TPI.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

Yeah, I need something to drop in. I have the 355 which is machined for roller but doesn't have the stuff, the heads are 74cc so I would have to buy a new cam and roller stuff, injection, harness, comp, and heads for this one. I don't have the extra cash now for this car as 1 of the turbos started making noise in the Audi and I just dropped $4,000 for stage 3 tune, injectors, turbos, inlets and crap for that. + we're buying a house and I dare not dip into the down payment for that or my next thread will be asking for a place to live.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

I understand and can relate to your situation as $ is tight here as well. My '54 is on hold in my garage with 95% of the parts and work done. It's tough not to finish it, but I made the wife a promise that she would get a 4X4 truck or a project on the house before I do anything on my '54. What would you need $$ to make the 355 work?

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

Can you use all of Daniels tpi stuff with your short block? And have Daniel kick you $150-200? Seems like a deal, the only thing Daniel has in question is the short block, and you have that covered.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

Well I want an HSR so if I can't get a drop in motor for the truck, then I will buy the HSR and swap L98 heads to my existing shortblock and buy Jeremy's roller stuff.

I just got my approval on the new house and will make an offer on 1 of the 5 that we are looking at and should be in by April 1st, hopefully. Once I am in the new house, I will have the cash to finish my S4 and get the Formula back on the road as my daily driver. My get gets the 500hp awd while I get my V8 5 speed rwd car back. I'll still love driving the car though and it'll be plenty fast till I actually get the funds for the LSX swap way down the road.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

So the truck isn't for sale, strickly trade for "Drop-in" L-98 as the title of the thread reads. Why do I feel stupid right now? Good luck with your move! I hope you guys are happy with the new place. Will you be in NV. or CA.? Be sure and post some clips of the bird when you get it back on the road.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

Oh, I'll sell the truck for cash or other trade too, preferably cash but anything is open. It's a good truck and I have been driving it a bit but it sits 99% of the time. We're buying in Dayton, which is about 20 minutes from Carson City. We're looking at the houses tomorrow.

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

So I guess I'll ask what the TPI L98 was worth or what else you're looking to trade? How many miles on the truck? Original motor? Wolld I be able to drive it home?

Re: Trade? L98 for truck?

The truck has, 119,000 on it, low for the year. The engine and tranny were replaced by the guy before me. It original came with a 700R4 (1st year) but it now has a th350. I would say yes, it would make it. I drove it daily for about a month, month and a half just fine, about 44 miles per day. I would like a good running ready to go L98 but I am willing to take any trade offers.

I thought you had everything to make it carb'd, did you sell it all? Also did you sell your original harness?

Like an idiot, I hacked up my old harness. I took the carb and a few things back when I change my mind to go back to fi.
