crashed my gto last friday

so i got into an accident on the way to work last friday morning. i was getting on the freeway and was trying to get up to speed when i guess i hit a patch of black ice or something cause my car broke loose and shot me across all 4 lanes of traffic. i countered it back and started drifting twords the shoulder when i got hit from the side rear quarter and spun out. i just got some info from the body shop and they said they arnt fully done appraising the repairs but they are at 9500 as of now they will find out the rest tommorow. and i also got a letter from my insurance saying i was 100% at fault for making an unsafe lane change???????WTF i hit a patch of black ice and they are calling it an unsafe lane change???? its also funny how all the other cars seemed to slow down but the one guy who couldnt speak any english?? so now my commercial license is screwed. iam glad nobody else got hurt but man why me?????? how much do you guys think they will have to get to to make it a total??cause it really didnt look that bad.

Re: crashed my gto last friday

if your insurance company wants the parts and can make more from a JY they will total it as they please. Thats what they did with my pathfinder back when they wanted pathfinders in the yard. I got told this by the guy my truck had to sit at after i rolled it. There was maybe $3000 in damages on a $5-6K truck and they totalled it cause they get $10k somehow at the auctions/yards. The appraisor told the tow guy this so, who knows. Pics would be a big help for us to judge the situation more appropriately.

Re: crashed my gto last friday

Well I have a little experiance in this since my wife total her 06 Mazda 6 9 months are we got it. She had all state who pays full value for new cars that are considered a lost with an amount of time. I was with the insurance co when he survayed the car since I had it told to my house after the accident so he apprasied it in my garage. First of all forget about blue book value insurance does not use it. Edmunds.com is what they use its called true market value. Put your car options, miles and zip code and it will tell what your car is worth this is the max they will pay and yes its lower then blue book. Now if his appraisal comes with in a few grand of the number from edmunds its a total due to the fact that estimates are just that estimates and they give them self a little buffer cause if they start fixing your car and find out it will cost more to fix once it's a part they take a loss.
ok an 04 gto dark blue with 48K will be valued at 16439 street value. All state will total it at around 13K to 14K estimate
Like most people I was pissed at first casue bluebook had her car new at 23k but edmunds had the car new at 20K cause it took in acount the 3k rebate mazda gives while blue book dont. The only thing that kept me from losing it is that i actually bought the car for 17K due to I bought the car at invoice minus rebates not MSRP minus rebates. so there you have it, once again I have allstate I don't know if other companies do it different but i'm pretty sure they are all the same

Damn bro, what matters is that you are ok!

I cannot express my hatred for insurance companies enough. When they are getting paid everything is fine but heaven forbid you need assistance or a claim, it is like raising the dead.

Hope everything can work out for you in the commercial driving field too, please remember tough times don't last but tough people do.

Insurance=legal racketeering
To keep it 3rd gen related:

Here's a couple shots of my 1984 H.O. 5.0 Z/28 (before and after it was totaled) after my wife was rear ended on the freeway. State Farm gave me $1800 for it and I kept it. Funny thing was that they shipped it to L.A. before even asking me what I was going to do with it. With all my aftermarket parts, I made them ship it back to me. I stripped it down and parted it out myself. It was a blessing in disguise because I kept the trans/rear for my '54 (and gave the 5.0 to my mom for her's)+ I got my 5.7 TPI IROC.

Re: crashed my gto last friday

Well i am in the body shop buissness right now and i can tell you that the insurance company will settle at a total loss when your car repair reaches 70% of the value. Which in your case would mean 19,000.00 because they go by the maximum value that your car can be worth. So 70% of the value on your car would be around 13,300.00 and maybe a little more depaending on if the go by 70 or 75 percent.

I remember those pics and that sucks Daniel...

I mean them shipping the car without your consent is stealing it ffs!

At least they paid for shipping twice.

In my experience I basically recieved $2500 for a truck I valued around $4000, which would be no biggie, if I wasn't paying for "full coverage", which I was, then they tell me it wasn't. Lying SOB's. Plus getting them to iron out all the details and dealing with the claims rep took ~6mos, that was priceless.

Re: crashed my gto last friday

yeah i heard from the adjuster today they must have been getting to high in damage cause all of a sudden he said it would be less than the previous estimate with more damage then he told me the final estimate is 9800 so they are going to start repairs on it this week. honistly i wish it would have been totalled cause it would have taken a big burden from me. no i possible may be giving it back to the bank cause after two years i cant justify the amount it costs me per month. we shall see!!!!!!!!!
