what the new year has brought me so far....
hey guys.. just checking in.. havent been on in a while. ive officially had my firebird for over a year now. (purchased on Dec 31. 2005)
i blew the damn exhaust header gasket and of course it was the passenger side. sucker was a metal gasket too. got the rear brakes done up last week. got my Stage 8 locking header bolts(flipping awesome bolts) on with a fresh header gasket. (only did the pass. side) and did my front brakes today. new rotors and pads.
as of now im trying to find a grommet or something, anything to get my amp wire into the cabin from the engine bay. working on getting some dynamat in the car too. im working on getting a door hinge kit, passenger side is starting to sag. been a productive start to 2007. hopefully this week ill have the engine out of the 91 and ready to take it to get the machine work done and get that knock out. ok... think that just about covers it haha
oh and the ads.... theyre not THAT bad.

Sounds like a lot of progress Ron.
Here are some great "rattle" threads.
I've had a couple bookmarked for a long time.

I need to kill some debt, pay for some kid stuff, sell a lot of stock, and reevaluate what I'm going to do with my car next. Wheels and exhaust are on the list.

Well The new year has brought me a new custom S/S Spintech muffle (4" inlet and duel 3" outlet) and the rest of the S/S tubing to make my tail pipes.
Hummm what is next??? Front suspension & 6 piston front brakes? - Probably

of course i thought it would be a great idea to detach the rear hatch to lay the tint down. of course it had to weigh sooo much more then a say a... camaro hatch because of the wing. i managed to almost finish... of course it begins to rain out of nowhere. and of course the only person helping me is my 120lb girlfriend to pick up my 130lb hatch back onto my car. and of course the hatch slips and tears a hole into the fresh tint i laid down

Bummer on the tint man, bold of you to try to do it yourself.
My car is still sleeping, but I did open her eyes this past weekend for some new hood shocks.
I have a nice surprise waiting for her when she wakes up in the next month or so.

How did the spark plug blow out? The only time I have seen that before is when the cylinder was full of fuel or coolant.

Also a tip for most of the 3rd gen guys here.. if your using aluminum heads a small dab (I mean small) of antisease on the threads will prevent this from happening in the future. It is best to start one thread down so it does not get into the engine. Also the plugs do not need to be super tight.

Sorry to hear that. That is a bit pita. So did you find that out before you canged out the heads or when you were putting it all back together?

What are you doing to it (heads & cam) wise to get 460 rwh? That is a pretty big number out of a 5.7. Usually you need to bump up the compression and such.

it is a pretty big number but well capable and still be streetable. this setup netted 460rwhp. being streetable rely on how good the tune is. I have a very good tuner who acually tune my friends 02 z06 with the ms3 cam only and dynoed 428rwhp and he said its perfect for DD, but im still kinda weary of have a cam that big as a 100% daily driver so im picking something a little more tame and have more power under the curve. My car is 100% daily driver. realistically with my setup, i'l probably get around 440-450rwhp.

So your going to use a .600 cam for a daily driver?
I am all about pretty extreme daily drivers and pretty crazy engine combo's. I mean my 67 RS/SS has a solid roller with .770 lift and 13 to 1 comp (race gas only!!) but I do not use it as a daily driver. Mostly as a weekend car around town and an occasional Friday commute to work car.
I have built several customer cars in the .550 lift range for daily drivers and they run great. But that is for people who know your going to be doing more maintence then a stocker. Plus I always tell them that they better realize that you loose quite a bit of low end torque and quite often if you have not changed the rear end gears you will not be able to use 6th on the freeway unless your going over 80.

I think he goes to Newtech, or one of those other popular LS1 tuner shops in the bay area.
They won't have the equipment/knowledge to tune your 3rd gen.

Thanks man...I already ordered a chip from Ed Wright, but I want to go above and beyond a 'generic' burn. I want to go somehwere, where they actually place the car on a dyno and get the readings, make adjustements, and then do a custom burn at the shop.

Yep, I've been there. If there's an actual shop here in Nor-Cal that does it, I've never heard of them.
Nothing compares to tuning while the car is present.
You just have to know somebody or learn yourself.
At least you can dyno somewhere and send the AFR to Ed and have him make some adjustments after.

[quote=PHAT89TA;3197802]. THe valve springs are prc duals and are good to .650 lift and wont coild bind till .720lift so they pretty tough.[quote]
Just be careful about valve springs. If the springs are good to that lift you might have too much spring pressure on the seat and they will beat up the lifters and cam. Just because they go to a certain lift does not mean they they will work for your application!!!
All that stuff need to be matched up just right.
