Time to start planning!!!
So I have decided that it is time to start planning for the next great TGO get together and the first one for us West Coast guys in 2007. In the past we've done Fresno, Sac, Central Coast and Tahoe just to name a few. As fun as those were I'd like to plan something a bit MORE fun and try not to repeat a previous place if possible. So I am considering cities at this stage.
First thoughts were somewhere up the state further, but still on the coast for starters. I was thinking about Santa Cruz or Montery. Santa Cruz could be a lot of fun if we go when it starts to warm up and hit the board walk.
So in this thread I'd like to get some feedback from you guys on what/where/and when you guys would like to do something during the first quarter of the new year. Please vote and if you have somewhere else that you would like to consider, please post it up and let us know. Thanks guys, lets make 2007 our biggest year for GTG's if we can.

I might just have to throw my motor in without a power adder.
Wonder what a 8:1 compression NA motor will feel like?

Monterey would be nice... Or another one down here on the coast... Other than that, I don't know much about the other areas.

I haven't been to Santa Cruz for a long time, should be interesting when it's warmer, not sure about March.
I also know SC is fairly equidistant (~3 hours) from Sac as it is (~3 hours) from Fresno.
So Bay Area folks obviously would be real close and would not be as far for the other central coasters, as it would be coming up to Sac or higher.

LOL seriously? That's crazy. What about April? I'd love to get as many people as possible to go. We have a ton of time to plan this out so make sure you guys all keep this in mind and when we set a date, make sure you ask for the time off ASAP. I don't want to have any last minute flake outs.

Santa Cruz!
Lodging that time of year should be kinda cheap (off season and all).

What is the weather like in Santa Cruz in Mar/April? I mostly post on the So Cal board, but now that I'm retired I'd like to get the T/A out on more cruises. I was up in the Bay area in early Oct., and went up to Bodega Bay on a Saturday. The temps were in the 60s with 20 mph winds. It was really cold. Will Santa Cruz be warmer in the early spring?

April would be better for me but if March works for everybody else than I'll just play it by ear. We should go to Great America

I voted for Santa Cruz. I think it will be more things to do there plus I've been to meets everywhere else. Montery would be nice too, don't know of much to do but cruise the coast

- I think early April would be better, give people some time to get cars on the road
- I could do a weekend trip if there's stuff to do and there are actually 3rd gens in attendance.
There's only about 10-12 regular posters here, so I'd say the results are pretty typical so far.
Hopefully by going to a more central location like SC it will appeal to more folks and you'll get a poll with 24+ and if you're lucky, half will attend.
Whomever was asking about the weather I found this:
Typical temperatures
Temperatures rarely go below 50 degrees or above 70 in the spring (or most of the year, for that matter). Santa Cruz has a very moderate climate most of the year, which makes it easy to enjoy. Spring is the best time to visit Santa Cruz, as warm winds begin to warm things up.

"There" indicates a place as in, "I live here not there."
"Their" is the possessive of "they", as in "They live there but is isn't their house."
Here you want to indicate that the house belongs to them.
. ..is it March yet? Winter sucks.

I'm not sure when Great America is open but it is usually after Memorial Day (end of May-ish). The SC Boardwalk is either fully or partially open around then and the weather is usually starting to be nice around April although rain lingered longer than usual this year.
Lodging: We should get a count of committments and pick a date. Then we should call around to the hotels in the area and see about getting a group rate. Are we even close to that?

BORN AND RAISED IN SANTA CRUZ!!!!!!!!!!
i just moved to san jose a couple of months ago (about 25mins. from sc) but i still work in santa cruz, and just a little info, march sucks in santa cruz, first off the boardwalk isn't open ( but the arcade is... includes pool tables and minuture golf, but if we're lucky and it's sunny beach will be packed) the only time the bwalk is open is spring brake, and most of the time it's real nice out here in spring break. April sounds better, and it may help for the weather to warm up a little. I Know santa cruz real well and i can help map out a cruise route. Anyways if any more info needed about SC, just ask.

I would however love any recomendations on things to do in Santa Cruz perhaps besides the Boardwalk and Arcades like Local eateries, good/reasonable hotels to try to book, anything else to do. Maybe pool hall with a FULL BAR! Let us know as I'm sure we won't want to spend ALL day at the BW.

I haven't been on the TGO board lately, but I caught wind of the GTG plans and thought I'd throw this out there.... I know that this may be a little off topic, but I went through this organization and ran my IROC at Laguna Seca for like $300+gas. Not bad if you ask me considering my last ticket was that much. Check it out and if anyone is interested we can talk about a future GTG with them. There is a visual inspection to pass as well as a decible restriction on exhaust, but most streetable cars never fail. Anyways, check it out.... http://www.greenflagdriving.com/
BTW, Santa Cruz Sounds fine to me. Just set a date and time sooner than later. I'd like to put in for the time off. Hopefully the wifeee won't be pregnant yet!

I'm not sure about everything being closed. According to the website the boardwalk IS open on the weekends, and certain parts are open during the week. Either way I probably have to agree that April would make for a better trip as it should be warmer.

and yes there's alot more to do, we got FAST EDDY'S, NINTY NINE BOTTLES, those are a couple of well attended spots. As far as hotels, they're kind of expensive, specially during the weekend, even if it's a crappy hotel you're looking at minimum $100 a night.
I do have a buddy of mine who works at a hotel near the BW and he's got lots of hook ups around the bw.
Well just let me know if you want me to start looking around.

well unfortunately every weekend in SC is a little crowded (specially if it's sunny) so you'll still be paying quite a bit. I'd recommend Sea & Sand Inn, it's right on the beach by the BW and the wharf and about 5mins. from downtown SC it cost about 129.00 a night, and everywhere else away from beach it's about 109.00 a night and they're not as nice, and plus did i forget to mention that's where my friend works might be able to get you a hook up.

I'm always up for a GTG in a backyard. Going some place for a STS is great as knowbody has to host. We all just show up and have fun. Now the plus side for a GTG at someone house is that we can have a BBQ. I just hope that you have a good BBQ as I really enjoy cooking up some of my mean habanero ribs. Of coarse I'll bring tri tip, and sausages too. I'll just need a count and some notice!
Ahhh the warm weather and BBQ's..... mmmmmm

Don't worry, you'll be invited to Vin's "1/4 life crisis GTG" coming soon
I've had a 1/4 life crisis my last couple b-days.
I think this year it will involve a tat, some car parts and a trip to the bar in Feb. for me.

Hey, as long as its along the west coast, and between late April and June, count me in, just keep me informed. Unless you all have a problem with a jarhead being in attendance??? Im sure I can post a note around base for all other Camaro and F-bird owners to come. Just keep us posted!!! (btw: if its on a holiday, us Marines get a 96 hour liberty, so count at least 4 of us in)

So did I miss the time/date/place or have you guys settled on it yet? If my IROC is still running, I'd like to make the Fresno one and/or this one. The sooner I know what day, the easier it is for me to be off for it.

Re: Get 2 Gether suggestions.....
actually, how much stuff 'usually' actually gets done? Ive been to meets where everybody is relaxed and into small competitive ralleys, that were fun and family oriented.
I've also been where people were serious about everything they said and did, which prompted many fights. There are the others that want to sit back and just do booze, and medical pick-me-ups.
I do know of two fairly good spots that are private and family oriented that are owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church> One has excellent beachcombing, the other a big stretch of the Russian River near Healdsburg. Although we would be expected to keep our booze, smoking, and sex hidden from the small religious student body. The plus side is that the river makes a huge meandering loop around the private school proverty. One can jump in one one side with a raft, and in a coulple hours come back to the same place.
One of the other places is tucked away below Watsonville along the ocean front; just left from what's listed as 'sunrise state ocean park'. This particular Seventh DAy Adventist scool took over a WW2 military prison and a large section of ocean beach and bluff. The biggest issue of all, is that this religion believes that they are to bring others to the only God. It is also their belief that God wants them to sit quitly in a state of prayer from Friday evening Sundown to Saturday .
So if we're looking for last ditch places, we would have to be respectful of their 24 hour sabbath . let me know if there's any interest in following up to either SDA school.
Also, the Healdsburg area school carries privacy, yet there's plenty of winding roads to keep the track boys happy. Just some thoughts, NITRO

Car: A beater.
Engine: Not enough HP.
Transmission: Automatic... I can't drive a stick!
