now.. to find a place that will paint the car and NOT just sand the clear down to find "Good Clear coat" and charge 6grand.... I think that would be a REAL paint job...

Nice, I like the factory color. SS hood would look sweet, that's what I want someday on my car as well. If you do that on your car though in my opinion you need ground affects to make it look right. They don't have to be all that agressive, some like mine would work just fine.

i dunno if i want gfx's though, being gfx less has really grown on me, i even stoped noticeing the muffler in when im walking up on the car from a parking lot (from the rear of the car) But right now this car seems more of a money pit then anything, so manythings are breaking on this car engine wise. (ie my alt, now my oil pressure sender )

I know what you mean about money pit bro, it's all good though, it's all for the love of your thirdgen. Fix the mechanical issues first, then do looks, that's what I am doing since it's my daily driver and all, just like you. Good luck on whatever you do, I still vote for ground affects as well.

Good idea, hope it works out and you have money left over for your engine swap. Are you going to buy a used one and rebuild it, or go new?

its gonna be a crate long block from either AZ, Kragen, or Pep boys, got to go price them, I dont have time to rebuild an engine right now with college and work. and its just easier for me.

ill order you a kragen crate engine

if you call kragen.. ill tell yuo what, only ask the quote on the RECON brand engines..

they are a bit pricey, but they are awesome remanufactured engines. good warranty and they are very durable and built well.

the cheaper ones like evergreen are crap and youll be pulling that engine out for warranty 6 months or sooner down the road..

but dont let that sway your judgement because everyone is of coarse gonna quote you the cheapest they can get if your just 'pricing' or 'checking around'

And that aint **** to a wholesale account.

Too bad TraviZ doesn't work at the one by me, he'd know me by name (like he doesnt already ).

$900 is a good price, but if it was me I'd pull a 3.4 from PNP at half price day and bore that b!tch out and have something sweet, with money left over.

But that's just me.

i already have 77k miles on this thing.. from what i hear these early 2.8 v6's had bad oil gallies.. most dont make it to 100k miles so i really dont have time to wait to buy it, but i dont have enough cash to do it, and with college im broke gonna start saving like 20 bucks a paycheck, with all my tip money i get every other week going towards this engine (yea i know not a lot but with these gas prices, and being on a part time job its all i can afford )

You wouldn't have to save too long for a PNP motor + rebuild kit.

It all depends on where you want to do work IMO, at your job or fixing up a motor.

To me I always end up learning more in the long run if I just do it myself.

Just like everyone's favorite T5 which I'm probably going to rebuild here pretty quick haha.

That 200c or whatever slushbox you have under that Gremlin is 4 speeds right?

If not it is E-Z to get a 4spd auto shifter from the yard.

nope 200c is a 3 speed, and a V8 tranny wont fit a V6 motor unless its a 4.3

uuummmmmmm!!!! you know the 3.4 has DIS and your carb'd 2.8 has a distributor so your intake wont work search the V6 boards

thats right.... although i did learn something intresting today when i talked to the smog ref.. I could go v8 and they would consder it a engine replacement not swap. I also learned that GM sucks for getting engines for the 2.8's for the maros.. all disconed for this year Thanks for looking that up for me Traviz... Does kragen carrie the wireing harnesses as well?

personally id just put a carbed 350 in there. I've got one sitting right here that you can come have cheap cheap. It's a Goodwrench crate 350, no intake but it's complete other than that.

And you can find 3.4s pretty cheap if you know where to look... we bought one a few years back for 3.492rs's car and it was pretty cheap.

If you want to pull it yourself, probably $400 at a junk yard.

im currently tight on cash right now, with the gas prices, going to college and training 50 miles away from my house really takes up the cash for everything else hopefully once i start getting better hours i can afford to get the engine. Im in the reasearch phase right now for the engine swap/tranny swap part of this car, getting prices and such. The Wireing harness should be the same between the v6 and the v8's right? just the computer/prom needs to be changed correct?

Im sure you could get a complete 3.4 hear in sac for about $1000 and you wouldn't even have to pull it yourself

Alright guys, now that i know that haveing a carbed 3.4 is out of the question (since it is a DIS engine) Im gonna restort to upgrading to a v8 (like its a bad choice anyways eh? lol).. .yea i know ive been fip floping around, and saying i want to go show room orgninal.. Now it seems that i cant, and for the money, i believe a v8 carb emssion legal swap will be cheaper in the long run then a full FI swap would be. Now im dead set on a v8/ auto tranny (dont feel like swaping to manual) off to go research 350's.

Bout time you make the right choice and start running with the big boys!!!

Forget "style"

It's secondary to "PowA"

I've got a complete roller cam 305 from a '92 RS I'd let go for cheep!

I even have all the serpentine crap + accesories!

Agin vindeezl, I have like NO cash on me to buy an engine, college fees and crap really drain the bank however once i do get the funds, and if you still got the 305 ill look ya up back to reading up on the 305/350

Go with the 350 v8 swap for sure. You could get the same motor my car has, it's a gm crate 350. It's only 1100-1200$, long block too. Good luck with whatever you do, keep us updated.

What exact Crate do you got? (part number if ya got it) All the replacemet motors from gm for the 83 350's and v6's are discon checked today about it. I got to find a 700r4 junker to rebuild, should i go and look for a iroc or a z with an auto and pull its tranny? or find like a GTA or formual with an auto tranny and pull it?

... Damn 2.8, im reading almost Nil oil pressure on my stock gauge (yea i know, it aint accurate) when im accelerating, Then when i get to cruizin speed it's in the red zone I hear a tapping sound (possably coming from the cat from bottoming out earlier this year on a speed bump) Could it just be the oil presser sender/sensor? or is it the Oil pump itself? anybody got anyother ideas on what it could be?

Could be some "expensive" noises you're hearing there.

Maybe your car really wants that V8, it's a sign from
the Camaro gods!!!

Well narrow down where that sound is coming from, and test / replace the sender, then let us all know if that V6 is on its last legs or what.

I replaced a bad sender on the '86 305 we used to have and the oil pres. was where it was before, BUT I didn't have any "noises", that thing ran great!

Hey, the part # for GM is 10067353, also known as ENGLM1LS9. The price I paid is $1345.50, that's with the $100 core charge built into that price. This doesn't include labor, as I put it in myself. GM Parts Direct.com shows the regular price as being $2,588.50, their price on the website is $1,550.00. I think the reason I got mine cheaper is becuase my brother is a mechanic for the dealer mine came from, so he got me a discount. Although I could have sworn it was cheaper in Jeg's or maybe Summit when I looked about 3 months ago, maybe they raised the price, sorry bro. It's still a smokin deal for a 4 bolt main 350 long block, it's rated at 260hp/350lbtq. The warranty on it is 3yrs, or 50,000miles. Hope this helps, check out Jeg's and Summit for better prices. Let me know if you need any other help or info.
