Re: What to do with my 85 IROC?

Any of my friends still subscribed? I want to talk about the temperature gauge…it reads low (changed temp sender and gauge). I get the same readings as original parts that I swapped out. Gauge never goes above 1/4 and drops below when driving.

Note: I have the Stage II hyperchip 165F (with respective 165F thermostat).

What is the temp at the 1/4 mark reading on the gauge between 100F & 220F, 160F?

Not a 100% but I’m pretty sure your running just under 200 and with the thermostat/chip you have that might be accurate. I have a chip from Tuned Performance and a 180 thermostat and I run around 190 while cruising unless I stop and idle for awhile and it goes a bit higher. I personally wouldn’t run lower than 170 thermostat on a TPI from what I have seen on here.

You could also verify your gauge with a infrared thermometer, then you know for sure.

So that temp mark is 200F?
@T.L. do you know?

Pretty sure it’s that second line that is very close to the needle in your picture and yes I think that’s 200.

Might even be 175 or 180, sorry for the previous answer but looking at the gauge it wouldn’t make as much sense to be 200. I would verify it with a temp gun to verify or see what a data scanner says at least.

Yes, yes, and yes.

You really don't know numbers with stock gauges, it's more of a learn what looks normal so you can recognize when it's not normal. If you want to know actual temperature then you need to tap into a different data source or measure the resistance of the sensor at that operating condition and then pull it out and do it again to make your own calibration curve with a pot of hot water.

Or try the infrared temp sensor and ball park it. That's the practical solution.

Remember, there is engine temp and radiator temp. Does one of the fans operate according to radiator temp?

Thanks!

Single fan and everything does operate correctly (just trying to understand the gauge scaling).

I purchased the button connector vs the spade connector since that was what was originally installed. Assume that the thermistor inside these senders are standard. Then reading too much, I was thinking to swap it out to a TS76 as this is the actual part called for vs the one I installed (for the 350).
