New from CT...86 IROC-Z
Hey Guys. I'm new to the boards but not to F-bodys. Just wanted to give a little intro. I used to own a 92 Camaro RS, which I converted to a V8...First a 350 and then a 400. I went through that car up and down untill I got tired of tinkering and sold it off. I've had many cars in between including my 2007 Mustang GT which I still own. I lately wanted to get back into a third gen very badly, and found a deal on a clean 86 IROC that I couldn't pass up. Needed a little cleaning, but nothing that couldn't be done. It's a 305TPI, auto trans. I've already done a few mods thanks to a hook-up I have (my brother...WhiteDevilTA) haha...including 18" wheels, 4.10 Posi rear end, and a full 3" SLP exhaust. Future plans include a t-56 trans conversion, as well as swapping out the old 305 for something a little more potent. Keep an eye out for a build thread! Here's some pics for now.

Nice car, but those rims REALLY set it off, haha! Welcome to TGO. I'm sure I'll know first hand when the mods start hitting

Nice IROC and nice to see another CT person! I saw a car for sale just like this in East Windsor not too long ago and the owner told me he sold it... is this the same car? I remember it had fresh paint, headlight pockets weren't repainted black, and about 128k miles (I think). It was a pretty nice car.

Thank you. They are Ruff 278's. 18x8.5 in the Front and 18x10 rear. Definately set off a third gen nicely, and a helluva lot cheaper than HRE's.

Re: New from CT...86 IROC-Z
Yea they did...there may be a few leftover sets laying around, but they are tough to find now. These have the 4th gen offset. For the rear I didn't need spacers because my axle is out of a 95 Trans am. For the front I did use spacers. I want to say they are 1.5 inch. I bought them a while ago though because I used them on my old camaro as well. They are the ones with the studs built in that bolt onto your existing hub.

Nice car man. I remember driving by it while it was for sale, and before that he had a black one for sale as well. I saw your car at the vernon cruise night at golf land this weekend. I think you drove by after the meet. ive got the emergency orange 3rd gen that was parked in the dennys lot

Speakin of car shows, there's a few of us from necamaro-firebird.org (NECF) going to Marks tonight in Ganby. Usually betweek 400-600 cars, tonight should be a great turnout given most have today off and the weather is beautiful.

Re: New from CT...86 IROC-Z
I meant to ask... how does your Camaro drive with the 4.10s? I'm guessing there was a substantial gain in off the line sprinting but is it still practical to drive with the LB9 and 700r4? I'm talking about highway cruising, etc. I wanna replace the crap 2.73 in my TA sometime with a better ratio and I'm not sure what to get yet considering my car is driven daily almost all year except for winter.
And did you feel any difference with the SLP exhaust? I'm assuming you got your Camaro with the factory exhaust?
Thanks!

Re: New from CT...86 IROC-Z
very nice ride! I can't wait to see how you and your brother share car mods with us. Maybe so good ol brotherly competition?
Both your cars are very nice - like the stang too! Good luck and once I get me car painted in the next week or so I hope to get out to some of these shows and meet up with some other 3rd gen boys. This is my first 3rd gen, I'm a mostly a Ford guy so I'm learning my way through the gm world.. much to my buddies delight since he has always been a gm guy..

Re: New from CT...86 IROC-Z
I got my car from fred about 3 years ago now. He doesnt deal in rusty third gens if he can help it. Mine was really clean as well but needed a new paint job. It was one of the few that he didnt get repainted before he sold. You got a good deal on a clean third gen.

He seems to do this on the side... has a few parts cars in his backyard and then some. He's in the East Windsor area. Send him a PM... tpi-hearse. He saved me a lot of trouble lol.

And since we have most of the CT people all in one place, I thought I'd ask if anybody's going to the Bristol Auto Club show this Saturday at 5 pm on route 6 in Bristol by the Sears/Frankies parking lot. I wanna take my 91 there and it would be cool to see some more third gens there... the guys running the show even told me that they don't visit often. Last time I went there were tons of fox bodies but no 3rd gens, we gotta fix that!

I wasn't planning on it but only because I didn't know about it. I'm babying my car for the next few weeks while I put the finishing touches on my tune and await the delivery of my new drag radials.
