Re: PIttsburgh
I forgot to tell you guys, on Wednesday I found the block for my engine build! I went junkyard hopping looking for stupid **** for my truck, and when I was leaving the one something told me to ask if he had any 400 SBCs laying around, turns out he did indeed have one and only one haha. I went back into the yard and found the 79 Chevy he was talking about, dont know how I didnt see it when I was looking for parts cuz its the same body as my truck, but it indeed did have a 400 in it. The emissions sticker was still there and I jumped for joy reading '6.6 Liter' and seeing it was externally balanced. Went back to the guy and asked how long it had been sitting and how much he wanted for it. He told me about 6 months ago it had been drove to where I saw it sitting, and that with a battery and some gas it would start right up. He said he would take $400 for it, and I think thats a fair price for a running 400 SBC. Im going back up next Wed with my dad to hear this thing run, and hopefully lay down the cash so he can pull it for me.
I got to talking to him and he said he had just pulled a working TH400 out of a box truck, and that he would take $200 for it. I dont mind not going with a 700R4 and losing overdrive, because Im building this to be a musclecar and Im not worried about gas mileage. Besides, 700R4s need to be highly built to handle a 400 SBC which costs alot of money that I dont have. And I think $200 for a TH400 is a good deal too, they are getting hard to come by.
Well Im done ranting for now lol, I just hope this is the start of my V8 drivetrain in my car.

How late are you guys staying til? Im really going to TRY and make it tomorrow, but Ill have to see if/what time Ill be able to make it. If I come, youll hear a 2.8l pulling in. Sounds better than a stock 2.8 but its still a V6 lol..
Im glad everyone commented on my post about my potential drivetrain and their thoughts lol.

Hey man, you already know my thoughts! Although it will be a very good combo i think.
I still paid only $200 for my L98
Ill probably be there as long as there are thirdgens there. And those 2.8's actually sound pretty good some time so don't sweat it.
And it's not the manual driving i havta get used to, just the clutch on the camaro. The mustang's clutch is much more forgiving.

Im surprised how my car sounds, me and my dad just threw up an exhaust for $100 (Was at his discount) to get it on the road knowing the engine wasnt staying forever and I think it sounds damn good. Many people think I have a mildly built 305.
Like I said youll get used to the clutch in the Maro'..I got used to the one in the Trans fairly quick. Doesnt matter cuz next summer my baby's gonna be an auto..more consistant track times for bracket racing and 400 SB's are known to eat manuals so yeah Im going auto.

Re: PIttsburgh
yea there was a good number there! there were also 3 more i don't think you guys saw since they were nearer the other side of the lot. One of em i know u saw (the orange one with 1st gen RS wheels) paced me for about 5 minutes going home. It was kinda fun being on the road with another thirdgen.
Anyways, it was nice meeting you all. I can't believe i didn't get to hear your car run orr, but I had to get home and it's a long ride. Oh well, i'm sure there will be other chances. And i was talking to my dad, definitely let me know about those heads. It wasnt in my plan to buy them this winter, but i should be able to swing it, and it'll be good for my budget in the long run!

Hotrod I snapped a pic of that piece I said I had that you might be able to use. The quality sucks because I took it in my basement with my camera phone so my apoligies on the quality. Let me know if you want more/better pics of the trim piece and/or if you want it.

I'm not sure what mine is supposed to look like since it was never there. I'll have to check out another car and see if thats the right one. It looks like it should be. If it works i'll take it, just let me know what you want for it.

Re: PIttsburgh
speaking of parts. deadman (i think), you asked about that shorty spoiler i thought i had? Well i still have it. I just checked, and there are not any cracks where yours is cracked. There are some cracks in the paint along the third brake light, but i have no idea if thats just paint or the plastic. Either way, the main issue with it is that 2 or 3 of the mounting studs are broken, but there is still 1 stud per section/mount/whatever. So leme know if you still want pictures. I really only want w/e i can get for it. Mostly it's in the way.

Re: PIttsburgh
Well, picked up my 400 today. I dont know how I got so lucky, but its the most sought after 400 block out there (3951509). It has the 1% Tin and 2% Nickel added to the block, AND I found out its known as a 'cheater' block when I looked up the number because its the only 400 casting with 2 freeze plugs instead of 3. So at a quick glance it would appear its a 350 and not a 400. Im excited to get this project underway, I cant wait.
Also, its a 2 bolt which most argue is stronger than the 4 bolt 400s.
