Front Plate in Illinois, and emissions..

Ok, I know in Illinois, they require a front and back plate, but is it ok if its in the front window? The reason I ask is because as soon as I have the money, I'm getting a brand new front ground effect, nose piece, parking lights, and adding fog lamps with the bowtie grill and I don't want the plate covering the bowtie.
Also, is there any way you guys can think of to make it look nice in the front window? I actually think it looks bad there so I'm probably gonna just have to put it on.
And one last question: I have a 1992 RS 305 TBI with auto tranny all stock.. will I pass emissions? Is there anything I can do real quick before I go to make sure I pass? I posted this in another post on emissions but I guess not many people read it.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

the front plate is "improperly displayed" if it's in your front window, and also considered to be blocking your forward view. So, if the officer wants to be a jerk, he can give you TWO tickets for your plate being in the front window....I think.

Neither of my cars have a front plate displayed, and I haven't been pulled over for it in quite awhile (knock on wood). I just dont feel like destroying the looks of the front of my cars, and am willing to pay the $75 fine if need be....The plates will never be put on the front though, and I haven't been fined yet. The key is to drive smart, and be kind to the police officer if he pulls you over. Be honest and courteous, and he most likely will just give you a warning and send you on your way.

As far as emissions...If you're all stock and tuned up correctly, you should pass fine. Only one way to find out though.

I 'm thinking of taking mine off. I had a 94 Z that was originally from Indiana and I never got questioned about the IL plate not being on there. I kept it in the front under the pass. side floormat just in case. I got pulled over about a dozen times and never got a speeding ticket. I'm a good ace kisser.
But they never once asked me about my plate. Maybe I just got lucky.

Steve is exactly right. You can be issued two tickets if it is in the front window. Most of the time if you were going to get a ticket it would be just for improper display.

I drove my car in nw burbs for a solid 2 years with no front plate. One time out of the many times Ive been pulled over they told me once to get a plate put on. No tickets though. Also Im a MP in the marines and I dont issue tickets to camaros. Its like ticketing your mom or brother.

hey i am going into the army reserves to be an MP, i leave for Ft. leanorwood in OCT,
but back to the subject.
i took off my front license plate and the next time i drove down the highway. i got pulled over, now me knowing that they were sitting on the highway i put it in the window. the cop pulled me over and told me i was speeing 62/55 and that i didnt have a front plate. he gave me a written warning for the plate, because it was installed wrong and he didnt comment anymore on the speed, probably because i wasnt really speeding.
so i put it on under the bra, you could barely see it. but it was there. but now that i am getting my car painted i dont know if i am gonna put it back on. i was thinking about not having it, but since i plan on being a STATE TROOPER i might abide by the law! i might just put it on and get some personal plates! not sure yet.
but it is illegal here in IOWA not to have it, and i dont know about the emissions, we dont have them!

I am just going on luck so far, two years and I have never been pulled over with it. I have a tinted rear plate and no front. I used to get pulled over every other weekend before I painted it. I used to tell the cop's (shhh! you didn't see this Les) that the bracket was busted and the new one was on backorder. It worked for a while.

Yeah, I'm going to leave it off and tell them that I just got the new front end and the bracket hasn't come in yet. That should work until I scrape my ground effect so it doesn't look so new. I'll be careful though..

You'd be amazed at how long the "the bracket hasn't come in yet" excuse works.

If its on the air dam, it'll probably be a ticket for "improperly displayed front plate" like having it in the windshield. I'm just gonna use the bracket excuse.

I've heard there is a product you can pour in your tank that guarantees you will pass the emissions test. I think it has methanol in it. Sorry i dont know more about it, just heard a guy talking about it the other day and wasn't too interested.

Run your tank to around 1/4 full, pour in a couple of bottles of that Heat stuff you use in the winter which is a type of alcohol. This will help if you close to passing emmisons. Your engine might run like carp though, I'm not sure what rubbing alcohol will do to your O2 sensor?? This worked for me!
