Its a bird, its a plane, its its....

My Camaro Saved from the bone yard!!

So after a few hours of gutting a poor unsuspecting 85 camaro, we got a rear end under mine and got it onto a trailer after it was flying through the air...or at least being tossed around gently by a loader. Someone did get to my car and managed to get the door and taillights but thats ok was gonna replace all that anyhow.

Well without further delay....Pictures!!

Why did you get this one? Sentimental Value? I mean, I could find way better rollers for 500 complete with no damage to the body w/ decent interior.

I would love to hear more details of what happened to it.

Re: Its a bird, its a plane, its its....

This is the first car I ever bought when I was 16. I had it for over 5 1/2 years and my Dad talked me into selling it. that was about 7 years ago. then about a month ago while on a trip to Minnesota I stopped by a junkyard and found it. So yeah I know there are cleaner rollers for cheap (I actually have one) but to me this is the best car for a restoration. Not many people can still say they have thier first car and now I have a chance to take it back to its former glory and beyond.

And honestly its not that rusty.

So first is body work, then suspension, then the LS1 and finally the interior. Few years and it will hopefully be on the road again.

Awsome. I saw how you jumped right into a 350 TPI swap... so I cant wait to see you jump into this one. Can wait to see more pictures of your progress.

Also, if you dont mind me asking... How much did the JY sell it to you for?

Well I was originally told they would sell it back for scrap price, about $300. but when I got there someone had parted a few things and they said $400.

lmao still working on that TPI Swap. It actually should be done in the next week or so.

The guy doing the body work is looking at the car this week. A friend of mine went and looked at it and doesn't think it'll take much. Picking up my ram air II hood otw up next week and got a line on new fenders...just need to find a pair of fairly clean doors for a reasonable price.

Update...

Got the car stripped most of the way and ready to go to the body guy. Its going to have to wait until spring but that gives me time to find my donor car and save up so I can do alot more all at once.

Got the interior stripped, new hood-tails-wing-ttops are on, and its sitting on large sheets of aluminum to hopefully prevent it from rusting too much more.

Anyways here are some pictures....and please save any bad comments on the hood, i love it end of story

Re: Its a bird, its a plane, its its....

Thanks for the comments guys. There was just no way i could possibly see my car get parted out and crushed when it was still salvageable. It was hard enough selling it in the first place but then finding it again, I knew I had to get it back. It may be a few years before its done but if that's what it takes then that's what I'll have to do.

Completely stumbled across it. I was there looking for parts for another third gen I bought and saw the front clip down the row. I got about 5 feet from it and stopped dead in my tracks, looked it up and down and said "this is my car" and sure enough it was. I'd know that car anywhere lol

I'm glad I never got rid of my first car. It would have made me feel sad seeing it sitting in a junkyard like that. I came real close to selling it after I bought my '71 Trans Am towards the end of my senior year of HS but 8 years later I'm still using my '84 Trans Am for a daily driver.
