THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

Come down to the last Autocross for the Milwaukee region season held at Miller Park on Sunday, Oct 14th. I'll be there like always, and...
  1. I think its a lot more fun that just going out driving together
  2. no one has to set anything up
  3. it would be great to catch everyone by surprise... I'm the only one there with a thirdgen so if there are all of a suddon like 10 of us show up, its gonna be like holy sh** where did they come from?
  4. provides friendly competition... who doesnt like that
  5. you dont even have to pay if you just want to come and watch!!
But its a week away, so decide if your coming soon. info can be found at: http://www.scca-milwaukee.org/Solo/solo2.html, or you can contact me and ill try to answer questions as soon as possible.

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

I'd love to go, but I don't think my car is setup for it.....bad tires on atm, and won't be replacing for a couple months.

Not to mention, I've never even driven in an autocross event, let alone any kind of event

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

autocross is all about ha fast you can make turns... so bad tires would lead to terrible times

I dont cruise 100, but i do know a couple people that do. none of them have a third gen though.

are you still gonna stop by and watch? or do you have another vehicle to run? (they probably wont let you run the S10... to tall, might tip over)

I was actually thinking about getting an el camino before i got my camaro... wanted to lower it and make it into a sick looking, rood hugging monster of a truck. In other words i was gonna focus only on suspension and brakes.

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

yeah i'll probably swing by and not run. I lowered the s10 an inch all round(lol, 15'' tires to 14inch chevy rallies), I wouldn't autox it though, it would be embarssing. I used to work with a guy that always autocrossed his 81 celcia, Tom Schalske, thorugh SCCA events and i didnt really go to that many this year. Hell, I only went to the Grove twice and a handful of carshows. :-( Anyways, El Caminos are really cool lowered, I was going to drop mine...
On that note here's mine

I've gotten about 12 calls on it so far. 2 guys came to look at it,told me I had a nice car and then said they didn't really have the cash. I did get an offer of $2,100 but i'm looking for something closer to $2,500 and if it doesn't sell I can wait until Spring :-)

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

I'm thinking about it, never done anything like that before. I would need to try and find a helmet. Do they allow verts? I would guess the roof would need to be up in order to run.

you can borrow a helmet there if you give them your drivers license as collaterol. But you cant allways count on a helmet being available. As far as the convertable, you should be able to run without any problems, and if they tell you to put the top up... no big deal.

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

you get to run 5 or 6 times. you have to work at least one heat. registration closes at 8:15 and tech closes at 8:30 if i remember right so i usually get there at 8. Races are typically done at 5.

5 times is the norm... we only get 6 if everyone knows what they are doing, worker changes are fast, very few people spin out, and nobody crashes (only happened once since Ive been racing). By working I mean you will be on course working a corner doing exactly what you said. When a car goes by watch the back bumper to see if a cone moves... even if it only wiggles you have to go out to put it perfectly in the box. When I say run, I mean run, because it will be about 20-25 seconds before the next car goes by. If you can't fix the cone in time just hang back and the person will be allowed a re-run if they want. If they choose to do a re-run, people will be unhappy with you because you may have just lost chance at the 6th run. In other words, pay attention, move fast, stay safe.

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

It wouldnt have been that great of a first time anyway since it was raining the whole day. Losts of fun spinning out but not many people could turn in some good times. The rain must have turned a lot of people away because everyone had to work 2 heats but we all got 6 runs so thats good. It was also my first time ever racing in rain.

Re: THE LAST MILWAUKEE REGION AUTOCROSS!!!

For everyone new to autocrossing... you should come to the Drivers School next year. It is limited to the first 50 people and costs $60. It will cover the basics of autocrossing, including safety, car classes and course working, get into reading a course map, car control techniques and you critique some in-car video. Lunch is provided and then you head over to Miller Park where you get to practice on two different courses.

Note: They do bump experianced drivers out of the class for the inexperianced so if you have never done it you are pretty much garenteed a spot.

I will post this again next year so you dont have to worry about keeping the thread alive.
