I have heard there is a junk yard a few miles up the road from me with 5 or 6 third gens but I am not positive. I can probably check into this weekend, been meaning to for a while. Is there any parts in particular you are looking for?

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

I just put my car in even more pieces and dropped the entire front suspension so it won't be at the free drag racing at GLD or even on the road anytime soon. I'd say at least another month before it touches the ground.

All for more performance. I swear this is a worse addiction then smoking. I'm spending money faster then I've been making it and there is a 383 I've had my eye on recently.

Only differance, if I wrecked the car at Slinger, I was walking home.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

There is Third Gen Fest in a couple weeks down in Crete, IL. I'm still not sure if I'll make it since my car is still in pieces. I've already missed 2 races so this is starting to **** me off. Since I started third shift I've got more parts money but I end up sleeping pretty much all day and can't install the extra parts I buy.

Oh, I ended up getting a complete/running 4bolt 350 at Jefferson for $100 so that still needs to get stroked as well.

I live in Cudahy, right by Milwaukee. I'd be up for a car show, and I autocross at Miller Park. I have a 89 Trans Am.

Finally another autocrosser!! What group are you with and what class are you in? When is your next race, maybe I'll swing by just to watch if my camaro isn't back on the road.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Well I run with the SCCA and WAI. Unfortunately I have to run in STU, because I've got an eibach sportline kit on it. The next race is May 23rd. What do you have done to your camaro? And how many years have you been autocrossing? Not to many people autocross these cars for some reason, it's hard to find someone to get advice from.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

I run with the SCCA and once with a Madison region group a couple years ago but I can't remember their name. Ive wanted to join the WAI for a while but ive always been busy when their events took place. I've been doing this for the past 4 years in various classes and vehicles but its been almost 2 years with the Camaro in two different classes. I was in F-stock and STU (because I've only got a 305), but this year I'll be SM. A better question is what haven't I done to the suspension and brakes. lol

My car is still up in the air so it's a scramble to get it done for Third Gen Fest and the race on the 23 but hopefully it will at least be drivable by then so I can still take part. After all, a gutted interior will only help me.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Well hopefully I'll see you there then! I'd really like to at least upgrade the brakes on my TA, but I'm pretty busy, and I don't have the cash for it at the moment. When and where is the third gen fest?

Hey, NJP93. Were you at the SCCA autox at Miller Park on the 9th? You had the red 89 350 TA, right? I had the black 91 Camaro. How did you end up doing?

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Sorry I missed the race on the 23rd. I was in Sheboygun riding the trails at my Aunts place.

I just spent the last 4 hours welding and grinding on my car and Ive barely put a dent in the amount of work I have to do. Even if I would finish that Im still waiting for ebmiller to ship me some brake parts I need. I still plan on going to the autocross on the 31st just to watch so hopefuly I'll see you guys there. I'll probably get there sometime between 11 and 12.

Have either of you noticed a white '82 Corvette or '78 Camaro autocrossing with the SCCA?

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

dusty - Yeah that's me! I ended up doing OK, not real great. I still have to get better at finding the right line and where I can stay on the throttle more. How did you do? Are you going to the SCCA autox on the 31st?
racing geek - What are you doing with the camaro right now? I don't think I've seen either of those cars at any SCCA events this year. I vaguely remember seeing a 78 camaro last year though...

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

I'm fixing some rust and upgrading a bunch of stuff while the car is apart. It's just that once I have something off to either clean up or swap out for a better part I just think to myself, "well there's only a couple more bolts and I can replace that too." At this point I have so many piles of parts throughout the house that I just need to start putting stuff together again. I want my car done by June 12 so I have time to dial everything in again before the autocross on the 19th. It's turning into a mad rush.

Cya tomorrow

@NJP93: Yeah, I didn't do too hot either. I'm still a noob and my car is bone stock. I did just order new heads, intake and headers, so I can't wait to get those on. Unfortunately I'm working today, so I won't be at the event. Hopefully the next one. I'm sure I'll see you around, let me know how you do.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

NJP, I just e-mailed you a link to the video of your last run and some of my comments on it. It was giving me issues since the video was near the file limit of my e-mail provider (25mb with yahoo) so hopefully the link to youtube will work. It was nice meeting you, your dad, and your girlfriend. Hopefully my car won't be scattered all throughout the house and I can give you a ride at the next event.

Dusty, you missed some good racing. The rain never came and it didn't really get cloudy until the end of all the runs. Hopefully I'll be able to meet you at the next event and pass on some info to you as well.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Racing Geek - Thanks for the email, I just responded. Seeing my run from that perspective helped so much, it's a lot easier to see where I need to improve. It was also a pleasure to meet you and your dad. Maybe I'll see you guys at the WAI event this Sunday?

Dusty - I didn't end up doing TOO bad, I finished 106th out of 121. Are you going to be at the WAI event this Sunday?

NJP:
I'm not sure if you know about this or not, but Andy Seipos takes pictures during most of the autocross events and posts them on his website. I was looking through the 2010 photos yesterday and found he had some of you. If you follow this link and then click the 5/31/2010 folder, pictures of you racing can be found on page 1, 5, 14, and 17.

I'm not sure if I'll make it to the WAI event on Sunday since my dad will be out of town with the Durango and my mom doesn't like me driving her new Vibe. If I can't take the Vibe, I'll be left with a temperamental motorcycle and a bicycle in which case I'll just stay home and work on my car. If I don't make it, good luck!

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Just cruising through the message boards...seems like this thread has been going for quite some time with little result...

This is just my two cents (hope ya'll don't mind)...instead of renting a track why not just pick a place somewhere in between locations, meet up, and drive the backroads? Nothing beats a drive on a good summer day with the windows down and getting even 5 or so third gens together in an area would be pretty sick...

Plus...it seems that there are pockets of us in places (Green Bay area, MKE, South Central)...a couple of people need to pick a spot, pick a Saturday, and if you're in the area you better be there. Jus' sayin'...no need to go state-wide...let's just drive.

I'm getting tired of being surrounded by BMW's in Madison...jus' sayin'...

Oh one other thing...Quaker Steak and Lube in Madison does their Car Cruise-In nights every Thursday night (I believe?!). Went last year and was the only third gen there...there was one other brand new Camaro among a mix of a lot of Corvettes...they get a pretty decent draw of cars though and it would be something requiring little planning on our part. They usually have live music too..

It runs from 5-9p but you have to get there early if you want your car in the front lot...I'll probably be out there a time or two.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Since we're talking about cruise-in locations, every Saturday from ~5pm-8pm there is a cruise-in at the Georgie Porgie's in Oak Creek. It's usually old muscle cars and hot rods but lately a lot of newer vehicles have been coming too. Somertimes a group of bikes will also turn up. But yeah, if the weather is decent there is usually ~100 cars there, and if the weather is great, it's common to see ~200 cars. It's a 10-15 minute walk from my place so I'm there pretty much every week with or without a car.

Oh, their food is really good too!

-----------------------------

Like I've said in the past, I'm all for a blast through the Kettle Morain granted my car is drivable. It's pretty much smack dab in the middle of the state so no one really has an excuse about driving far. I've done it a couple times on a motorcycle and it's fun as hell.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES

Adding on to what Racing Geek said above, the new Georgie Porgie's on HWY 20 and 31 (Green Bay Rd., RT. 31) in Racine has a gathering every Tuesday from around 4-8 PM. It's a smaller gathering, maybe 30 cars at it's busiest from what I've seen -Has a nice mix of newer and older cars.

Was there a couple of times last year, once with the Thirdgen and another with the Challenger. Both times they take donations for charities. I just might show up today myself with the newly painted Camaro....if it doesn't rain..my T-Top weatherstrips aren't glued down yet..and most of my interior is missing... lol.

I don't mind since it's not a show car anyways.

I'm not much for planning my days more than an hour in advance...haha. Depending on how the week goes I (and if it would quit raining for cripes sake) may be out this week otherwise sometime after the 4th.

Nice paint scheme on the car

Welcome back and thanks for your service. If you are looking for cheap parts Iola is not the place. Sometimes you can find a deal there but usually the prices are nuts for anything good. I have heard that any good deals are snapped up by other vendors before the gates open up. You could try Firebird City in Delevan. He deals in a lot of 3rd and 4th gen parts. Good luck.

I have to make a trip to the bank and cut the grass yet, but otherwise I'm working on the car all day today. I'm having fitment issues with my SLP headers and I'm still waiting for more parts to arrive. I've got either UPS or FedEx here pretty much every week. I'm on a first name basis with the UPS driver.

You mean girls actually drive third gens?! I thought this was just a big sausage fest? Pretty much all the girls I know can't stand my car. If it isn't the road noise, it's the seats, and if it isn't the seats, it's the "harsh" ride. It's good to know some gals actually like these cars.

Sounds hectic, good luck with that! Perhaps if a random day of driving is organized you'll get to show off your hard work.

Ha...yep! I've had the car for quite some time now...I really couldn't see myself driving much else. I sort've take some pride in the fact that she's in pretty good shape.

Someone must've forgot to send me the memo that I should be driving something that better matches a handbag or a certain pair of shoes...oh well...

The Quaker Steak And Lube events on Thursdays are really fun. I highly recommend going. It's even better if the Brewers are on TV.

I'm up for a meet but unfortunately I'm waiting until January 2011 to register my car so I can get collector plates... It's sitting in the garage with about a 1/4" of dust on it right now... I'm located in Combined Locks / Kimberly. Right outside of Appleton.

By your sig, it sounds like you have a nice car there. Unless you're strapped for cash or your car has some issues, I don't see why you'd wait till 2011 to get collector plates.....

Way I understand it, now there's no smog check for '96 and earlier cars, so you shouldn't need to get the one-time smog check that used to be required for collector plates.

Thanks for the compliment. My reasoning is this. I have August 09 tags on it right now. I wanted to get it registered but anytime before september 1st this year they would make me pay the $75 and the 85$ from last years registration. So for me, it doesn't pay to pay the DMV $160 to drive my car from September to October. My car is a 1991 so i can just wait until the 1st to register for my collector plates. (20) years old.

Geez, did I miss the obvious or what??...yeah, you're right, your car won't be 20 years old till 2011 for the collector's plates! Makes perfect sense!

What does the "interior" comprise of? - Seats, all plastics, door panels? I might be interested if it's in good shape and the color is close to what I'm looking for. PM me with pics if you have them. - Thanks
