Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
Here are some pics of the car. The first 2 are what I have been able to do to it thus far. The last pic is a pic of when I picked it up. Look at those rims. BLAH! Planning on dropping a 355 into it this winter. It will have vortec heads, 1.5 full roller rockers, Hot cam .492 .492, hooker headers, changing from TPI to carb, will also be supporting the underbody, and changing out the rear end. Hoping to get 380hp or so.

I still don't have working fans and got stuck on the highway on Friday so I'll be on one of my bikes the rest of the year. I've been looking into rebuilding my 350 and it seems like jvaughn and I are going to have a similar setup.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
Making it a 355, ported vortech heads, lift in the .5 range, SLP shorty headers, and a carb intake. My brakes (C5), suspension (koni and more), and chassis (lots bracing) can't get much better without completely redesigning it.

Well, the cold weather is around the corner...I'm thinkin about puttin her up in the garage till next spring. I got the Challenger to cruise around and visit the few shows left for the year or until the snow flies -whichever comes first! lol
Besides, I have quite a few things to do to the Z28 between now and then. LCARBS, Dyno Don headers, new 800 cfm carb, MSD boost retard, gages, new torque arm/trans mount and "maybe" lowering springs. Has anyone else packed thiers away?

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
I'm thinking about selling my '87 IROC-Z in the Spring. Do you guys think I could get more if I sell it as it sits or if I put it back to stock and sell the aftermarket stuff seperatly? What do you think I could get for it? I figured I could easily get 5 for it as it sits now. Reason I want to get rid of it is because I'm getting more involved in motorcycles, I'm tired of dealing with winter storage, and I'm simply bored with the car. If someone is looking for a car to buy I'll tell you right now this should be treated more as a weekend car then a commuter. The alignment is meant for aggressive driving, the heim joints aren't very forgiving, and the wheels/tires currently on it transform the car into a pontoon boat in heavy rain. With that said, it's a blast to drive when it's dry. It hooks well (1.6 60' on the old setup), it stops on a dime and gives change back, and it will easily put you into the door or passenger seat without a good seat and seat belt.
I'm the third owner. It was always parked for winters and any rust that has shown up was recently taken care of by me last winter. The previous owner supposedly did a lot of highway driving due to a long drive to work. I bought the car in '07 (I'd have to check to be sure). Left it stock the first year and a half then started adding parts. All the aftermarket parts you see listed below have a max of ~7k miles but a lot of it only has ~1k miles. I think I've covered everything.
Powertrain:
- Either 40k or 140k
- 305 TPI
- 700R4
- 10 Bolt 3.42 Torsen Posi
- 3" aluminum driveshaft
Exhaust:
- SLP 1-3/4" stainless shorties w/ 3" collector
- SLP 3" stainless Y-pipe
- 3" Hooker catback
Brakes:
- C5 front brakes
- LS1 rear brakes
- LS1 master cylinder
- Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve
- Hawk HP+ front pads
- Hawk HPS rear pads
- Earl's braided lines
- new solid steel lines for rear brakes
Suspension and Frame Mods:
- Koni SA's (yellow)
- Eibach Pro-Kit
- J&M strut mounts
- Edelbrock 3pt strut tower brace
- Spohn subframe connectors
- Panhard bar relocation bracket
- Lower control arm relocation brackets
- UMI adjustable lower control arms (heim/poly)
- custom aluminum adjustable panhard bar (heim/heim)
- 36mm front swaybar
- 21mm adjustable rear swaybar
- poly everywhere there isn't a heim joint
Interior:
- 9/10
- Corbeau Forza seats
- 4th gen front seat belts (with proper door sills)
- rear seats and seat belts removed (can be reinstalled)
- radio delete (tranny temp and oil temp gauges in it's place along with manual override fan switch)
- AC delete
Exterior
- 6/10
- Original paint so there will be no surprise bondo pockets
- 18"x10.5" C5 Z06 wheels front and back
- 295/30/18 tires front and back
I've also got a ton of stock and aftermarket parts to get rid of once the car is gone.

I kinda seen this coming...but if you're gonna sell stuff, I'm interested in a few parts, and I live just south of you so no hassle boxing things up.
I'd be interested in the strut mounts, maybe the Koni's, and the Eibach pro kit. And if you're in no hurry, I'd give you my stock parts to replace them with, assuming we could agree on price. PM me if you're interested.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
The car is running and driving now. It isn't still in the air like it was last time you saw it. If I do decide to make the car stock again I would definitly need stock parts to put back on since I threw out or gave away pretty much everything I took off.
There was a family event today and all my uncles were trying to talk me into keeping it and following through with the 350 or 383 build I had originally planned for. I'm just not sure if a new engine will be enough for me to want to keep the car and if I do put a 350 in it will I really be able to get that money out of the car then? Was your 408 or supercharger addition enough to revitalize lost interest in the car or did you never lose interest?

I've had a couple of cars in the past that I regretted getting rid of, like a '72 Dodge Charger I had. I owned the car back when I was active duty, and never had the funds back then for a nice 440 Magnum, a custom paint job etc..
But I did manage to do A LOT of upgrades using parts from junked Chargers I found in the boneyard such as high back leather bucket seats, I added a slap-stick auto console and steering wheel, hidden headlights, a 500 rear tail light section....I even got ahold of a 360 engine out of a '77 Cordoba, rebuilt it in what was basically a small shed in the backyard - and dropped that in. I got a lot of compliments on the car since there were few around, even back then.
Anyways, after 12 years of ownership I ended up almost giving the car away for 800 bucks to a guy I knew back then. He was thanking me for selling him the car pretty much weekly for the first two months after I sold it to him...I realized then how much I screwed up. I had a lot of blood, sweat and tears in that car. It wasn't a "show car" by any means, but I still think about what it could've been by now 20 years later.....but back then, I couldn't afford to keep a car around that wasn't a daily driver. Wished I'd stored it in my folks garage instead of selling it though.
Sorry for the long post...just trying to explain where I'm coming from. I just traded my '09 R/T Challenger in for a '11 SRT8 Challenger. The SRT even N/A (470HP) would probably give the '83 a run for it's money at the track...and I get a lot of compliments on both cars. But the compliments I get on the Challenger just aren't the same as the ones I get on the Camaro....after all, anyone can buy a Challenger. You have some work put into your car...make sure you REALLY want to get rid of it, you might regret it later...

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
If anyone is interested there is an 86' Z/28 at a salvage yard in Franklin (Al's) that is pretty fresh with factory A/C delete...I'd imagine someone out there might want that setup. It's an LG4/Auto, many other 3rd gen f-bodies there too if you aren't already familiar with the place. Just posting as a heads up, I won't be pulling the setup myself .

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
Sorry for the long post...just trying to explain where I'm coming from. I just traded my '09 R/T Challenger in for a '11 SRT8 Challenger. The SRT even N/A (470HP) would probably give the '83 a run for it's money at the track...and I get a lot of compliments on both cars. But the compliments I get on the Challenger just aren't the same as the ones I get on the Camaro....after all, anyone can buy a Challenger. You have some work put into your car...make sure you REALLY want to get rid of it, you might regret it later...
Sounds like if I do follow through with selling it a family friend will take the built up 383 from the Nova he is trying to sell and put it in my Camaro since all it really needs is more power and some body/paint work. Since riding the bike is so much cheaper and more fun I have only driven the Camaro three times in the last 3 months.
The bike I've been riding...
The bike I'm currently building...

Nice yellow bike racing geek!! You picked a nice spot to take the pic too I see. I've never been into the crotch rockets, but I know most are insane fast!
Hope you're doing a lot of defensive riding though...hate to see anyone get hurt, or worse killed on a bike. Lots of idiot drivers around these parts (as I'm sure you know).
-Good luck with whatever decision you make!
