Good shop / engine builder in SE Michigan?
I need to have extensive work done on my car (engine, trans, intake) installed. I'd love to do it myself, but I live in NY, and have a single parking space on the street, and no garage .
My car is currently in Bloomfield Hills, MI (not far from Detroit) - it runs, but I can't drive it far. However, I would find a way to get it to the right shop within a reasonable distance.
Does anyone know of a good shop in/ near the Detroit Metro area that would do an engine / trans / Super Ram swap on an 88 GTA? Preferably specializing in 3rd gens? I don't want to take it to just anybody.
I'm also looking for a good engine builder/ machine shop - I'm debating ordering a GM crate, but would like to contact a few builders in the area and see what's available through them as well.
PLEASE post up if you have any suggestions / know of a good shop! Thanks in advance!

He's not a professional shop, but I've got a friend in Carson City that can do pretty amazing things with an engine...
I could put you in touch, but it seems like you want a pro.

Hmm....I'd consider it, but according to Mapquest, Carson City is about 120 miles away . I doubt the car would make it that far.
It won't hold any coolant - when the radiator is filled up, all the coolant finds its way into the combustion chambers and burns up. I could maybe get it 20-30 miles after it heats up before it starts overheating due to lack of coolant...

Hey, you might want to consider this machine shop in Pontiac, MI. It is Baldwin Automotive. It is a NAPA machine shop. It is on Baldwin road, right down from Great Lakes Crossing mall. I will have to dig out the card I have from there for the #, but they do excellent work. I have had many engines magnifluxed, hot tanked, bored, cranks checked, etc. They are really good. I just got my '68 350 Rocket all set there and they did another excellent job. I will get that card for you, but I have to find it first.

I found an old friend of mine that's still in the area, and he said he might be able to do it...but if that doesn't work out, looks like that's topping the list right now for alternatives. Thanks for the recommendation!

My dad knows this shop in Pontiac. I believe the guy that owns the shop is an ex Pontiac racer of some sort. It's Joy Fair with Fair's Auto. Their number is 248-338-8252. I had my '89 Formula worked on there in the past, and they do a good job. You may want to consider that place too.

I've still got to get in contact with a local guy I know, and see what he says...if that doesn't work out, I'll start looking into the shops you guys have suggested so far and see what I'd be looking at through one of them.
I appreciate the response and recommendations - I'm glad I posted here, rather than take it someplace and pray....
