From what I've heard recently, the boys at Midstates scare me with their dyno(it's a Mustang, not a Dynojet). Apparently they were lost about running the thing and starting asking for help from 'the crowd' recently when a bunch of the Mustang/Ford boys where there. Two people I know that were there said it was freakin' hilarious. They decided to pass on having their stuff run.

THE MEET IS SET AND READY TO GO!
It's Saturday June 21st.
Everyone that I have phone numbers for will be receiving a phone call either tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday.
I figured what the hell, we can just show up at Southridge mall parking lot and call it a 'get-to-gether' and not an 'event' so we won't need insurance to be there.
So just to recap some things...
The itinerary can be seen here.
The final flyer can be viewed here and can be printed, posted, copied, handed out, and whatever you can do to get the word out. I will be posting them around at auto part stores and local businesses as well.
Directions to Southridge Mall can be viewed here.
I also advise you to bring some lawn chairs or fold up chairs for sitting and/or maybe a small umbrella for shade. If it's sunny it will probably be hot and there is no shade in this parking lot.
Bring your own meat for the BBQ. Also bring your own plates, silverware, cups, and drinks or whatever else you feel the need to bring.
Also, need you to be reminded...NO ALCOHOL. Please respect yourself and the others around you and don't drink. We will be driving and also trying to make an impression that f-body drivers aren't ******* drunks (No offense intended).
The rain date is Sunday June 22nd at the same location.
That's all I can think of for now....if I am forgetting something, someone please remind me.

I got the message as well. I would like to hit Eddyville, but a Friday is out for me. I work until 8:30pm so I wouldn't make it to Eddyville on time. Maybe everyone could plan a trip down there some weekend?

NOTE: There was an error in the first flyer. I accidently spelled 'Inagural' when it should have been spelled 'Inaugural'. I didn't catch it until today so I fixed it and re-uploaded it. The same link above will work.

I am going to go ahead and get a certificate of insurance for this. Hopefully it won't be too much money. I am asking if you guys would pay a little each for this so I don't have to insure everyone out of my pocket. This would be greatly appreciated. I would collect a few dollars from everyone at the meet...including those that arent part of this board.
Thanks, Josh

ok i have little to no $ but i want to go to this meet it sounds really fun and i have another reason then the meet to go...my dad (that i havent talked to in 3 years) lives in bettendorf no des moines so its on the way kinda want to talk my b/f into coming with me adn stopping at my dad's new house and finally talking to him cuz i know the main reason he's not paying me the $2000 he owes me is cuz i dont talk to him anymore. its gonna be hard to talk to him again but if i have to start the relationship up again so he'll finally take responsiblity of me i will. then we'll head over to des monies which is 2 hours away hmm give me the exact meeting places and times now so if i get to one too late i can find the other place...exact addresses would help too
thanks

Well guess what...I recived a call from Southridge Mall today saying that they aren't going to let me hold ther event in their parking lot, even if I had a certificate of insurance. The lady I talked to is a very nice lady and she recommended another place just down the road at a parking lot that is at a closed grocery store.
I gave them a call just a few minutes ago and I expect a call back today to find out what is up and if I will be able to use that parking lot and/or if I will need a certificate of insurance.
Trust me guys, I want this to go down just as much as everyone else here. This sucks that it happens a few weeks before the event. I hope like h*ll that we can get this parking lot.
The lady from the mall said that if I don't get this grocery store parking lot, then I should call her back and she said she would make another plea to her managers about it.
Hopefully I can get this lot....everyone pray for me....

The closed grocery store would probably be the old Albertson's at South Union and Army Post. Can't miss it if you drive by. There is a little strip mall there.

Cuno - That is exactly where she was talking about.
I called the people today that own that Albertson's lot and no one returned my call. I'm getting furious because I have to be the one to return my own calls.

Why not a park shelter at Saylorville or Big Creek? Why did those ideas get left behind in the first place?

The Albertson's lot or even the Dahl's lots are also great options because of the high traffic volume that passes by and they are very easy to reach as well. Hope Josh hears back something soon...wthe meet is less than 2 weeks away and we do not know where it is going to be held.
If all else fails we may end up having to have it at one of those places. It is too bad that Josh found out this late that we can not have it at Southridge.

First, the lady at southridge made a plea to her boss for us and said that they WILL let us do it at southridge now. BUT it will cost us $100 for leasing it for 6 hours. Now I need to give the lady from another insurance company a call tomorrow to let her know where I am having it. If all else fails, we could have it in my backyard, where no insurance is needed, and no leasing payment is needed.
Another option if we don't want to spend the $100 for southridge is there is about a 4 acre lot in Norwalk (4 miles south of DM) that gets a lot of traffic by it and I called ther owner of that lot today and he said that it would be no problem if we had a certificate of insurance....man...everyone is so hyperactive about us sueing them if sumthing goes wrong.
Anywayz, I'M ON IT GUYS and I'm doing the best I can to make this happen at southridge.
So basically all I am waiting for now is a quote from this specific insurance agency out of des moines for this certificate of insurance. Hopefully it will be at southridge that way all 50 flyers I printed in color can be posted...
Thats the update for now.

May I suggest Hooters? There is a Camaro show going on at Crescent Chevrolet Downtown on the 21st. The Crescent show will be from 10 till 2. So after 2, there will be at least 5 if not more people coming, My 94Z, My friends, 86 IROC, his Girlfriends Yellow 87 SC, and maybe a blue 91RS, a 2000 Burgandy Z, possibly, If i try hard enough, I may be able to talk John Leblanc into bringing his 02 ZL1. Also I believe there are a few people from the Iowa F-body coming too. I should be able to get at least a few cars comming, but we need to find a place soon.
I really suggest hooters, give them a call, and see what they can do, in past years they used to have cruise nights, so I don't see them having a problem with alot of cars.
If you still want to have a BBQ, you might want to try Salorville, try getting a picnic area. They have plenty of great places to get some great shots of everyone's cars.
I am really hoping we can make this a reality.
Josh, if you want any help setting this up, I am always free after about 5:00, my AIM is Screamin94Z.

We wanted it to be in a more public area so it attracts a lot of attention, not back in the woods of a lake. If this certificate of insurance doesnt fall through, then I will go ahead and go with hooters then. But I would really like the huge parking lot at Southridge.
Also, the area will be roped off so no cars can just come driving through the middle of the meet. I don't have any rope so if anyone has any let me know....I plan to use maybe 500-1000 feet of rope. If no one has any, I'll go buy some.
Also, if someone close could bring a grill that would be cool. I will bring mine but I don't think one grill will be enough. Please let me know if you can bring a grill someway (obviously not in yur f-body).
Remember to bring some meat for the BBQ folks. I'm hoping like hell that I can get this certificate cheap cuz EVERYONE that I have called and asked to use their lot or property said they need a certificate of insurance cuz they are afraid that if any little thing happens, they will get sued.
Thats all i have for now.

Heres the scoop. I am not going to pay $500 or more for a insurance certificate. I have done more calling around and Hooters/Gordman's parking requires a insurance certificate as well. The only place that actually said it was OK was Hardee's.
They have a good size lot for their meets on friday night's. The manager of Hardee's said it was OK as long as we don't interfere with the customers parking.
Hardee's it is folks.
-Saturday June 21st.
-Hardees on SW 9th and Army Post Rd.
-Bring your own meat, beverages, and utensils for lunch (no alcohol).
-Bring whatever else you need.
Any questions...give me a call at 515-577-8640 and leave a message. I work til 9 tonight so I'll call you back after I get your voicemail.

Hopefully next year I can be a little bit more organized and start to get things started a little earlier in the year. We can prolly have it at a place that requires insurance next year and I will charge a certain amount for admisson so that can pay for advertising, insurance, leasing issues, food, drink, etc.
I want this to be an annual meet now cuz there isn't enough of them around here IMO.
I was really crammed for time with school and work going on and I apoligize to all of your for me not getting this as good as it could have been.

have you updated the flyers yet? you have done an excellent job of organizing this thing, and i think everyone else thinks so too. so from me and everyone thank you for doing all the work.

Cool, I think you have done a great job Josh! So Hardee's is cool with having a BBQ there? That is nice of them! I would imagine alot of people will eat Hardee's since it is right there.
Another good thing is that there are trees there to provide shade.
I have to work until 1:30 that day so might be a little late. I should be able to get a grill there...either my charcoal grill or my big gas grill...depending upon what will fit in the wife's van.

I printed off 50 color copies from my color laser printer.....and now I can't use em cuz it says "NE southridge mall parking lot". I have updated the flyer and it is HERE. Give it about 5 min to load at the most...it's slow. It probably won't do any good now that the majority of the people have already posted it.
I think I may post a big sign by a car in the NE parking lot at southridge that re-directs people to hardees down the street...that way people will know that it hasnt been cancelled, but simply moved.
If anyone needs directions let me know and I'll give you some...or go to mapquest or something to find out where it is.
Also, the weather looks fabulous! Saturday is suppose to be partly cloudy with a high of 85! At least that's cooperating with us.
Other than that...hope to see a good turnout.

I hope the weather stays nice too, especially the way it's been changing so quickly lately. Hardee's is a nice place to do it. I don't know why it wasn't thought of sooner.

Shortly around 2, say about 2:15 - 2:30 you should be expecting a few more of us showing up, as of now, it looks like at least a yellow 87 SC, and my black 94, but i will see who I can drag from the Crescent Show. A green 69 converatable, and a few other may follow.

Hey guys, it doesnt look like too many are going to be there right at noon...so i have decided to just cancel the BBQ. Don't bring any meat. We can eat it Hardees. If we do that, it will give hardees another reason to let us park there.
I will be there right around noon. Sonic knows that we are coming...I had a guy call me today and asking how many they should expect, i told them i had no idea.
Anywayz, 1 day left fellas. Hope to see you all there!
Remember, if you have any questions, please call me at 515-577-8640.

Yesturday (Friday) i drove around and put flyers under windshield wipers...if i spotted an f-body, i put one on it. I also went up to porky's and left a small stack of flyers on the counter inside. I also went to the car show at hardees and laid a flyer in the seat of every f-body there. I hope it helps for the turnout.
I also called KCCI today and asked if they could announce the meet on the news. They said they may send someone out tomorrow afternoon to do a story on it! That would be way cool...but she said there would be no guarantees.
I hope this turns out well. See you all there.

I know this is really last minute, but can someone post the time of the meet and any other important info? I can't get your links to work..
Don't expect me to be there, my car got some terrible hail damage a few weeks ago and I wouldn't want to make third gens look bad by showin up in one that's trashed. I'll take my mom's taurus though if I can.
I've just found this thread and I read most of the posts. You are doing a great job at organizing this thing. I'm thrilled to see something coming together in iowa.

Well the meet is over and it turned out better than we all imagined. Here is the list of cars that I had sign my book:
91 RS
87 SC
86 IROC
84 Z28
77 RS LT
85 Maro
94 Z28
89 IROC
91 RS
73 Z28
02 WS6
86 TA
87 Bird
92 RS
90 RS
89 IROC
87 GTA
73 Z28 RS
80 Z28
00 Z28
73 Z28
91 RS
01 WS6
86 Z28
94 Z28
96 TA
...and a few unaccounted for cars that were here but left quickly or didn't sign the book. Overall I thought it was a good turnout for being a first time event. Next year should be a lot better now that I have learned what to do and what not to do. Hopefully it will get bigger by the year and eventually turn into a national thing...that would be awesome.
Anywayz, I took maybe 30 pictures, you can see them by clicking the link below. All of them aren't uploaded yet, just a few, but I will try to get the rest of them uploaded by tomorrow.
