yeah that right, I kicked some ****

I got in street race today with a 305 firbird at a light on 55mph road. I was driving.........a 2001 venture minivan (EL strippo model) with THE 3.4L and I just happened to pull a car on the 305 up to about 45 or 50. The car was the dealerships that I work at and I was just out gassing it up so no real racing would be smart. Just thought Id share that with the V6ers

it was a TBI car with a lot of miles and lots of jegs and summit stickers on it. I know what Im talking about, I launched off the brake and held him. The van is the total base model with crank windows....ect. Why the hell would I lie. Not like Ive never driven a TBI car before, mine used to be one and I know what they can do.

Dude, I almost got outrun by a new 2001 Venture WB Edition - he hung with me till 80, then lost it. It surprised the $hit out of me, and my car would outrun a TBI 305.

Is there something we don't know about these Ventures? A couple of month's ago, I was coming home from Kings Island (a theme park outside Cincy) Grad Nite, I had my now former girlfriend in the Firebird. I pass this white venture on I-275 and then he paces me! (Mind you I'm doing the 65mph speed limit.) So I speed up to go on around him, so does he. He's ticking me off a little now so I nearly put my right foot through the floor. Wouldn't you know it he's hanging with me. Before I know it we're doing 80. I thought to myself "ok, if you're insane enough to race me in a van, I don't want any part of you." So I back off. I'm sure he wouldn't have done that with kids in there, but that was my big concern. Watch out for those things.

I got beat once by a van. I felt like running and hiding my face. I pulled up next to a newer model Dodge Caravan at a stop light one morning. He started to take off pretty quickly so I followed suit and I never could catch up. I couldn't believe I got smoked by a minivan. I guess the newer vans are pretty quick.

I always let vans beat me. I figure, poor guy, he has to drive a mini-van, I might as well give him a scrap of dignity.

Alot of people dont know the power behind them ventures. They have a lot of top end power. Just think about it did u think there would be a minivan with 200hp. I think not.

Okay, I am about sick and fed up with people telling us we're liars (us as in those of us who have put somewhere on a post that we have beaten 305's with our 6's)!!! I, for one, have raced 2 or 3 305's, two of them with TBI, the other with TPI. They were legitimate races, both drivers knew we were racing, and they were all from a light. Oh, and just so you don't bitch at me on a technicality, all three were 3rd gen f-bodies. As far as I know, they were all stock except for K&N's. I have no idea how much mileage was on them, they were all automatics, and since I know the guys that drive them, the cars were taken care of. My RS was mildly moded, with K&N's and some aftermarket ignition components. The two TBI cars I raced I pulled on immediatly and they never caught up, and the TPI caught me around 65. You V8 owners will probably start spouting off that it would never happen, and how I am full of ****, but it is true. I don't know how else to convince you short of getting a time machine and taking you back to the exact time I raced those cars. I am so sick of 305 owners thinking that nothing is possible. I am telling you nothing is impossible. Give us credit - sure, we have smaller engines than you do, but that doesn't mean you are faster. Now I am not saying that my car wouldn't have outrun a modded 305 - which most 8 owners on this board have. These were, for the most part, stock 305's. SO STOP TELLING US WE ARE FULL OF IT - I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE SICK OF HEARING THIS.
Sorry this sounds like a super-flame. Everything is cool now that I am off my soapbox.

130Hp compared to 170hp????? Are you ****ing nuts. Someone explain to me how this works. 130 HP in th same car say lighter by 100 lbs for the samller engin and other things being smaller. beats a 170HP car with the same kind of suspension and stuff. I am not flaming because the first thing I always ask is is there anything else about that other car you would like to share, like its a POS or it had 200,000 miles on the clock. Though seriously I want to know where in the hell the 40hp is made up at. or 65 HP if we are talking the slower TPI 305s

I know how you feel. For one that TBI is one of the worst ideas & then to slap it on a 305, OUCH!!! I would much rather have my V6. Those 305 TBI F-bodies only had a max of 170-175 hp stock. It's not that tough to spank a 305 cause we've also got a lighter weight factor too.
Forgot to add something. Those V6's also respond better to mods than that 305. You run a modded V6 against some run of the mill 305, thata 305 is gonna lose.

1-better rear end gears
2-6's dont loose traction where the 8 might
3-5 speed.

that right there can give the possibilty of beating a 305 tbi auto

anything can happen in a street race. you were not there kyle, plain and simple. dont get so riled up.

Back to this whole crazy minivan thing.. yeh, some of them truly are mean minivans.. my dad's stuck driving a minivan cuz of my step mom, but he just HAD to go have fun with it and have them drop a 210 hp VTEC v6 in his 2001 Oddesey.. pulls harder than some of the speed density 305 TPIs I've been in.. yeesh.

That 305 must've been tired!!

As far as the 305 vs V6 thing...give it a rest!!!! The bottom line is that if you took a brand new 305 TBI and a brand new 2.8 and lined em up, the 305 would win in a big way regardless of who has an auto or a stick!!

I've owned both a 2.8 stick and a 305 auto and I know where that race would end up!!

As far as being up on TPI until 65 in a 2.8, that has happened to me before...I left the car in park.....

Oh my God!!! "Would a 3.1L 5speed stand a chance against a 305 TBI auto?" flash backs!!!!!

Im not even gonna get started on this. I and alot of my V6 bros have proved that we can infact hang with and even beat 305 TBIs. But Im not gonna sit here and say "well if he.." and "what if..." because it would be a waist of my time. If you guys think that there is NO WAY a 3.1L can beat a 305 then you are stupid. Thats right.... S T U P I D. And Kyle, man I figured you would have already figured this out! I mean you hang out on this board more than anything. But all this can be solved. Just take a look at my sig and OvrClck350's sig. That tells it all.

I like the way you think.

Isn't there a place for the v8 guys to hang out? I believe it's called the TPI and TBI boards. This is the v6 board; our place to hang out. Nothing against the v8 guys that actually help out around here. We're not saying that we are faster than ALL v8's, just the occasional one that comes along. I'm pretty sure my stock 2.8 would not stand a chance.
