Welcome aboard Bjohn2! Great car. I even like the Quonset hut!
My T/A has those pieces below/inboard of the rocker trim. I like 'em because it hides your view of the exhaust system from the passenger side.

I do not know the proper parts manual name for them. They are not original to a Formula...someone has transplanted a set.

Did you clean all the passages in the throttlebody including around the throttle blades and the back sides of the throttle blades? Minimum air isn't just the setting the air the IAC passes, it's also calibrating the air that flows past the throttle blades. They tend to get coked up with combustion byproducts and oil residue from the EGR and PCV systems. The same crud that collects on the IAC pintle will be on the backs of the throttle blades, which can make the idle do funny things.
Historically, on stock TPI cars, after getting the IAC working correctly, I haven't needed to mess with the throttle shaft position. The TPS on later cars is self zeroing. Aside from compensating for mods, wear, and lack of maintenance, the throttle stop screw is usually right on in the factory set position.

I like to use an old toothbrush and really get in there, scrubbing until the enamel is worn away and things are darn near surgically clean. Doesn't matter too much, they just get gummed up again, but the cleaner you get them the longer it takes for the film to build up again.

Nice looking Formula and the right color! I'm interested in more info on the side skirting too -never seen that before if you could get more pics if you can get it up in the air
also I feel I will be rereading the tuning work soon as my car hasn't run in 15+ years - I will be watching along

The skirts were stock stuff on 85-90 Trans Ams. I'd expect the base model cars with gfx got them up thru 90 too. They're not correct for a Formula or base car without GFX, or a late T/A. Makes me wonder.... I know I had a set in storage. I wonder if they're still there or if I gave them away.

Congrats on your purchase; I'm a little jealous. It seems like every 3rd Gen I see advertised at that price point is a rusted out rattle trap that's borderline not even worth putting any money into. I would jump at an opportunity to buy one that nice for $1700.

I haven't seen an original late style muffler since I got rid of the one off my 91. The soft O-ring from an H4 headlight fits the stock oil fill cap like a glove. Run some seafoam, or a half qt of ATF in the oil and drive around for a day or two before you change the oil. It'll break down a lot of that sludge and it'll come out when you drain the oil. Might take a few rounds before it clears it all out. It could be worse, a lifetime Pennzoil car will usually have solid blocks of carbon under the valve covers and intake.

Did you or someone else do a full dexcool swap? These cars did not take that from the factory

Mixing dexcool in a system that hasn't been completely cleaned out makes one hell of a mess of all the rubber hoses. Not so much of a problem anymore, but it used to be those cars would have a cooling system full of black crud and they'd blow the hoses one by one until every single one was replaced with new. A curse on the house of the engineers that created Dexcool.

I agree! Would have never put that junk in there if it was me.
I know a couple months have slipped by, but I ended up selling this car. Will be in the market for another as soon as the right deal pops up.
It was a nice car overall but not a keeper to me.
