It's a cheap china piece I found in a local speed shop. Didn't have a part number on it.

It didn't seal very well and let a lot of heat through which is why I added this one

Re: "it" has begun....

Had some time on sunday and opened up the diff because the cover silicone/cover had a slight drip.
Confirmed 3.54 posi and diff lube was starting to jell up. Glad I opened it up and cleaned it out.
Also took pictures of all the random casting numbers and stampings

Re: "it" has begun....

I have been using teflon paste and a gasket for a long time. For me, it has proved to work better than just silicone.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either, heck it could be stampings from the tube suppliers.

How much fluid did yours take to fill it back up, including the bottle of friction modifier?

Honestly not sure, I have a pump on a 5 gallon bucket of lube. I just fill the diff till it dribbles out.

Re: "it" has begun....

A very boring update
Stumbled on a NOS GM day 2 serp belt so now I can save the old crusty assembly line one for whatever..

Original assembly line belt

GM replacement, stll old but much better than the original belt.

For those crazy enough to want a old semi correct belt.

The font used on the belt lettering and numbers. Other than that, it's a bit newer. And yeah, I'm a bit weird. I just like finding these oddball things.

That's my friend Joe's 91 formula 350. Has the wheels, cold air and catback on the car. Has a few more things to put on it yet.

A few quick pictures from the 2021 T/A Nats. Will post a few more later. I haven't really done anything to it since before the last show in 19' . crazy how time flies.

Re: "it" has begun....

Some slight bad news though, the factory heater core decided it has had enough and started leaking. Noticed it when I was putting car away tonight. Good thing I have a NOS one ready to go.

Didn't know you were going this year Tony. Cool autographs!

I follow the Nats facebook page. 494 for turnout this year...event record is 525, set back in 2001. Doesn't seem like this event is going away any time soon! If the border was open, this might have been a record year.

I already spoke with my wife about going next year.

Re: "it" has begun....

Finally getting around to resealing the old R4 compressor. To my surprise it still had a very very very little bit of psi in it but it was leaking oil like it has the clap.

Sometimes it's not pretty to get things apart but need to make it happen. Just need a slight bit of psi to get the shell to move and then it just slides off. (It's not pressing on the clutch coil)

Apart and getting cleaned up for the new seals. The outer shell O ring is what was leaking oil.

Glad you are doing this Tony. Despite this compressor being unpopular, I planned to reseal mine too.

For the record, I'm not sure if this one is "good" or not, all the bearings look good and no scuffing in the 4cyls so going to take a shot with it.
Most everyone says if you have a good fairly quiet stock unit, keep and use it. The parts store rebuilds are hit/miss. Not a huge fan of the look of most other options either.

Why are the rebuilds hit and miss?

High failure rates for one reason or another. From what I've seen and read (very small sample of the world though soooo).

Re: "it" has begun....

Had to dig out a NOS pulley and clutch. The original was shot from oil on it and being old

Going back together with new seals. Didn't even have to remove the coil on the snout

NOS, bearing/pulley. Cleaned up that rust a bit b4 it went together.

New clutch has 3 holes for a spanner wrench to grab on to. Old one doesn't, there goes a few more points at the pebble beach show.

Back together with all new seals. Even put a bunch more throughout the system, think I got them all. Will vac it down soon. Hope to get to the heater core this week.

Re: "it" has begun....

As soon as the front seal starts leaking again, those 3 holes will be filled with filth in no time. Problem solved.

Juts kidding. Nice work!

Re: "it" has begun....

Heater core swapped out in 1hr, 50mins. Took my time and cleaned a few things up while in there too. Not sure why people dread them so much.
Pictures

Started at 11:38 finished at 1:30pm

Core out in 20 mins

91F Date code ?

NOS core is from 89

Tubes are the same, picture angle makes them look off a bit. Judging by how small the corrosion is, we caught this leaky guy fairly early.

Side by side, again, tubes are the same.

Re: "it" has begun....

Made a quick 13hr rocket run yesterday for a nice (but dirty) set of original Ronal R15s with maybe 50 miles and newish set of Mickey Thompson rubber.
Was looking for a nice set to do in yellow so I wouldn't have to paint the red ones, even though SLP painted over the red for the color cars.
Hoping to have the center caps, wheels, hood and front bumper painted for some shows and burnouts this year.

The Ronal center caps have a SLP decal on them put on by the owner. The Goodyear F1s were from a crashed low mile 99SS. Owner put the tires/wheels on the car, drove around the block and it has sat ever since. He was guessing at least 15 years.

Nice score! Sucks burning time to do it, but that's the part of the price when you find a deal on rare parts.
