I again ran into TGO member OKFOZ and his son. This time, John had this BEAUTIFUL yellow Formula. Fantastic car. I hope he left with an award. I voted for him, but had to leave early.

So many nice cars. I'm going to pick on the Saturn though. Even supercharged.... still shouldn't be there

Re: My new 1988 T/A

Yes, it was a nice show with good turnout.

Are you talking about the dark blue car? If so, it's a Pontiac Sunfire, so it goes with the Pontiac club and theme. While our Chapters (Widetrackers) Dust-Off show is for Pontiacs, GMCs and Oaklands, we have extended an offer to local Buick and Olds owners to join us as well. This Chapter (Motor City) seems to have opened that up even further, as there were several Chevrolets present.

A portion of the money from the shows goes to charity, so it's all good.

I don’t mind the sunfires, but would of never imagined seeing Pontiac Aztecs at a car show as I saw at Carlise. However, it is cool to see passion for uncommon older cars. Still amazed how the fiero has turned into a cool car to see at shows. At least cool to me lol. Nice car show pics btw!

Nice car. I heard this gentlemen asking the owner what he paid for the car (he bought it when it was 1 year old). I think the answer was somewhere in the high $11k range. I mentioned that I had bought an Arctic White RS, L03, 5 speed, 16" wheels/tires, A/C, tilt, AM/FM/cassette, and rear window defogger...my first new car. A pretty plain car, but with my GM employee discount, it was just a shade over $13k. I looked up at the '91 RS shown in post #893...the one with the big turbo, and said, it was pretty much like that one. The owner of the white RS was standing there listening. I mentioned that try as I might, I couldn't help but damage the car. I only owned it a little over a year, and scraped the fender with a loaded snowmobile trailer a friend and I were trying to push through the snow, etched the edge of the hood with lovebug juice on a trip down south to a NASCAR race, and most telling, I burned a baseball sized hole in the carpet in the back installing a nice amplifier. The guy standing there asked where I'd bought it, and I told him Hamilton Chevrolet.

I mentioned that a member of the old GTA Source Page forum had run the VIN for me a few years back, and confirmed it was still registered locally, with someone in a specific town. The guy who owned the white RS said HE LIVED IN THAT TOWN. I asked him if it had the carpet damage, and he said not now, because he had changed the carpet out to get rid of a weird burn mark.

I took his name and number, and looked up the VIN when I got home. Of all the bad luck, the photo I took of his VIN (a number I used to have memorized, and yes it looked familiar) was too blurry to read. But I'd say there a very good chance this was my first new car, which I have not knowingly laid eyes on since 1992.

This RS one the third gen class. I places third.
Confirmed this morning....this IS / was my first new car. It was shown in my very first post on this forum about my T/A.

Stellantis Employee Car show this past Wednesday. A little Mopar heavy, but lots of other brand represented.

Glad you enjoyed it guys. A little more than 200 cars this year...the most I've seen attending 3 of these events.

They treat us pretty well. Goody bag with embroidered hat, fridge magnet and a few other goodies. Free ticket for food at the BBQ food truck, free drinks, free ice cream. And a half day off work to do it. No complaints here.

Yes, the variety of things was fun to see.

That '86 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 was a beautiful example. Owned by one of John Sawruck's sons (John was an important figure in Pontiac history), it even bore John's signature under the deck lid. I spent a bit of time speaking with the son. I didn't get a good solo shot of the car, however. There were so many cars, and I was hurrying trying to capture most of them. As a result, most photos are shot to show two or three cars at a time.

Been a busy couple of weeks, with more to come.

With the Woodward Dream Cruise coming up, cruising on Woodward has been picking up. I'm a lousy photographer, so I caught virtually none of the action. But you might spot some nice rides going by in the background.

This was 8/12.

Re: My new 1988 T/A

There may not be much in here for the 3rd gen / GM crowd, as this event is sponsored by Dodge. And I caught very little of it on my 9 year old cell phone. Enjoy!

Roadkill Nights in Pontiac, MI, 8/13.

Racing on Woodward (no actual racing in this photo, but this is the setup as seen form the stands after the racing ended (stands were packed during the racing, so I had to wait until the racing was over to go up to the top and get this photo).

At street level, catching the V8 powered Volvo wagon taking the small tire class win.

Looking back into the M1 Concourse facility from the top of the stands, you can see part of the dirt track set up with four Ram TRX trucks running the track at a pretty good clip, including several WOT bursts, and 2 jumps. If the line for rides wasn't so long, I definitely would have been up for this.

Re: My new 1988 T/A

There was a lengthy article on this car sometime in the last year...a local Detroit street racing legend from back in the day, in original, unrestored condition. It was fun to see in person, and shake the current owner's hand (son of the original owner).

If you don't know who Paul Rossi is, check him out here.

https://paulrossiracing.com/

Paul's cars, particularly this one (though I think this is a recreation, also recently featured in magazines) were often on and in the pages of the Direct Connection catalog. As a penniless teen, making $2.15 an hour scooping ice cream, and with no money to spend on performance parts, one of my thrills was to get a new Direct Connection catalog each year, and read, learn, dream. So getting to see this car in person was a big thrill for me.

That's Paul under the red canopy on the left, black jacket, black hair. I happily waited my turn after taking this photo to buy a few tool box decals. Had to wait quite a while for that tall drink of water in the grey hoodie with his back to us to finish his conversation...that's Steve Dulcich.

When it was my turn, Paul was very cordial, shook my hand, and offered me a copy of the special edition of Chrysler Power about him, and signed the cover for me. Too cool. That will be framed and be in the shop.

Speaking of "stars" / influencers, aside from the list of folks who drove for Dodge at Roadkill...

"For 2022, the celebrity shootout is called the Dodge Direct Connection Grudge Match and it features last year’s winner and eight other competitors. Returning from 2021 are Freddy Hernandez, Westen Champlin and the Throtl team of Mickey Andrade, Rickie Fernandez and Quinn Clark, along with Alex Taylor. The list of new racers for 2022 includes Herman Young (better known as Demonology online), Tony Arme, Christina Roki, David Patterson and Collete Davis. If you don’t recognize many or any of the names, don’t feel bad." https://moparconnectionmagazine.com/...rity-shootout/

...there were many cars there FROM the Roadkill series, the red, white and blue Chevelle from Vice Grip Garage, etc. A fun event for sure.

Re: My new 1988 T/A

Another night closer to the big day (Saturday), and more cruisers out. Again, my apologies for the hazy night photos. There were several more 3rd gens, though I can only catch photos of the ones that miss the light in front of where we're parked.

Yes, that is a great looking car.

More from tonight. Took a better camera this time, with somewhat better results. The darker it got, the harder it became to focus on moving vehicles.

The upside down van is on a set of wheels that are hidden? I can barely see them.

Yes, wheels underneath.

Here are a few of the over 600 cars at the Woodward Dream Show at M1 Concourse today. Tomorrow will be 800+.
