Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
so if anyone is wondering how to make an interface pad to sand down their car, just gran some scotch brite pads (or another slighly flexable material) some vinyl for the sanding pad to stick on and glue that together with flexible epoxy. put the other end of the scotch brite pad on the sanding part of a hook and loop sanding disk and voila you have an interface pad, and now you can sand your car with ease. and thanks to Luis for sending me a haynes repair manual for my car. I will get on the first chapter as soon as the weather makes up its mind (its lightly snowing on and off right now) I will try to get the car up and running within the month, given i get a job soon.

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
I now have enough money to start buying some bits and pieces for my car. I have decided to get headers first. I found 2 sets of them on ebay and am wondering whichbis better. Right now my exhaust system is rusting out and i have the 305 H.O. Exhaust. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/SBC-Small-Blo...ht_2104wt_1258 and http://www.ebay.ca/itm/SBC-Small-Blo...ht_2167wt_1258 and http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Black-Coated-...#ht_3099wt_732

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
Right now i am leaning toward the black hugger headers because they cost the least but i wouldnt mind dropping an extra $20 to get the chrome huggers. I wanted to run a true dual exhaust with either an x pipe or an h pipe (still dont know which i should put, probably an x pipe though) and 2 of these mufflers http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-5-INLET-4-O...#ht_4959wt_782

Unless you're planning to install those headers in something else, don't waste your money. They certainly won't fit an 84 firebird.

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
hey man im not tryin to be negative but save your money on headers use that mney towards replacing worn/tired parts on your car, like struts, pads for brakes rotors, make sure your drums work if you have em. maybe buy parking lights, or door hinges, idk to me sounds more effective and money better spent on making sure your car is as reliable as you say it is, ya know? Other than that don't let me stop you and have fun with this car you'll learn a lot!

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
given they fit and ill get some exhaust pipe at a local shop and get these two mufflers so no one yells at me for my car being a nuicense http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NISSAN-N1-STA...d09a05&vxp=mtr
i might have to get some flex pipe and stuff. but before i get the exhaust i WILL have to spend around $200 to get tires because the camaro rims have the car too low to the ground. I do have some spare 17" rims, no tires though, if anyone with 17" rims can tell me what tire size they are running. the width of the rim is 8" i think, i was going to grab 205/40/17 for it. here is where i will be getting the tires http://hamilton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ475681681
$50 for 17" tires is alot better than $100+ for the 15" tires for the stock rims

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
also does anyone know if I am supposed to select 2 for quantities, i dont want to buy double of what I need. i just assumed that rock auto gives one so i had to put the quantities for the wheel bearings and such on 2.
***EDIT***
I will be getting 235/50/R17s because they are close to the stock tire size and only have a 0.95% "diamiter varience" as it is called according to this website http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-...0R17/225-55R17

Ok, someone is selling a ravin muffler for my car. Are they any good? Would a dual setup beat the single exhaust? http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAd?Ad...kEj/Q+liNMJ1o*

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
OK! so I am ordering headers (the look like the headman shortys for sale @ hawks so i should be good) and 2 n1/fireball style mufflers from ebay. I will be ordering the stuff from rock auto this wednesday. and I have taken apart the interior for cleaning. also, to entertain a thought, someone is selling a V12 mercedes S600 or SL600, for $2750, would it be possible to put said V12 engine in one of our cars? again that is just to entertain a thought, im not gonna run and grab a mercedes lol :P

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
well the headers came in today and i was very excited, they are black, only cost me $135, they look like the headman ones from hawks but they are from ebay, they go to 3" tubes and come with 2.5" reducers here are some pics
but with the cheap prices come defects, its nothing major, just a few scratches on the one header
im waiting on the parts from rockauto and the mufflers, i ended up getting some welded on dual square tip mufflers. right now the tracking numbers for all the parts are in OH... (usa state) and thats about 4 hours from here so i couldnt imagine them taking more than 2 days to ship. I will then take the car to an exhaust shop to get the headers and mufflers put on.

I noticed you're from Canada, if you live in southern Ontario let me know and I'd be more than happy to lend you hand with your T/A. I can also hook you up with parts.

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
I havent really updated in a while because i have been solely focused working to get my car ready for grad. well at the last minute i got it ready and now im going to post some pics of how it is now. I pull the interior out and cleaned all the pieces, the easiest way I found to do this was to get a brush, sunlight soap and a steam cleaner with a brush attachment, i rinsed the panels, put soap on them with the brush and scrubbed till the whole panel had suds on it. then I got the steam cleaner and went over the entire panel and repeated some spots that needed further cleaning. after all the cleaning i made up leather inserts and put them in:
Me and a friend worked a bit on removing some of the stains on the carpet with the steam cleaner and then we re-installed the audio system but this time we hid the wires:
after that I carbon fibred the centre console and dash and then put the gauge rings on and installed it: my cousin sister helped me install that. I then went into cheapo mode and painted the car with spraycan primer and tremclad gloss black rust paint (this was so it looked cool for grad, i will get it painted properly when I have the funds) and I bought bigger sized tires (the ones on the camaro rims were too small and the ones on the firebird rims blew) from a friend who had a 1984 camaro (he crashed the poor car and bent the frame while drifting) i paid only $200 for the tires and rims, the fronts are 205/70/15 and the rears are 255/50/15: and . I also got the distributor cap and rotor along with the ignitions wires in the car because the exhaust was popping (misfire) and it runs like a dream now. yesterday my friend showed me how to do a burn out and damn can my car spin tires! but thats pretty much it for now

Re: 1984 Firebird T/A full restoration
I also got a friend to make some stencils out for me so i can have some screaming chickens on my car: and and I also have little sail panel birds:
I also have this problem with the wider tires, when i hit a bump the tires will rub up against the outside of the wheel well and get shedded:
also, the day of grad (prom) i took it to the shop in the morning and they told me that i did not need ball joints or rear wheel bearings, and i thought they were right untill they made the most n00b-iest mistake of life!! they used my rim key with a impact gun! yes you heard that! they used my poor ancient lug nut key with an impact wrench, the guy didnt even have the thing on properly and he broke it: so imma get my car chezked at a better shop later in the summer.
