Now the random orange parts makes some sense after seeing those seat covers. That color still looks a little ugly. Nice job on the car so far.

The hood is primed and about done. Of course since the metal was bent and stretched it will never be perfect again but I would like to get a new one in the future maybe a suncoast Ram air 1? its functional too. http://suncoastcreations.com/a-p-f-1...ood-28010.html I don't like hawks because the bulge is so big. I have also been working on any rust bubbles, just cleaning off the rust and painting them.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got
Been finishing it up. I should have some tires by wednesday. I replaced the dash face instead of painting the grills and broke the plastic gauge cover in the process oops! thank god I have the GTA to use parts off if needed. It's not a parts car but gets treated like one! But I put some blending clear on the quarter to hopefully get it blended in. The hood is painted and I threw some blending clear on it too!

Re: New 1988 Formula i got
Thanks!
I got a couple tires dropped off today and I dismounted them. All I got that were worth saving were 3 275 40 17 eagle f1 gs's. I need one more, either a new one since one is near new and the other 2 are close. The others were cooper zeons that were cupped terribly bad, which their known for. My mom has them on here 08' Milan and they sound like 4WD truck tires! It sucks because a new eagle f1 gs is $337!

I feel your pain. I dropped $1200 today on new tires for the 'burban. Going to have to do the same thing on the GTA next year, hopefully I'll be able to squeeze another 5k miles out of them or so first.

But atleast the 3 are free! He said I could have them if I dismounted all the tires off the good rims, there are 2 sets of 03 cobra wheels he is selling and wanted the tires dismounted. So he made me a deal!

Re: New 1988 Formula i got
Well I've been to lazy to post anything for awhile lol! She is about 99.9% done. All I need is to change the tires because I don't think it will pass safety with the wear bar showing, the front drivers side turn signal needs changed or wire fixed, and what ever the knock sound is. I buffed the whole car and it looks great, but of course it doesn't look like it in the pictures. The headlights go up and down fine plus they work fine with the hood closed.

All the lights function now, I'm down to putting on tires and checking the brakes and emergency brake. Then when I get it back I'll check out the flywheel

I put 2 Goodyear eagle F1 GS's on the wheels tonight for the rears, I need to mess with the rear drums tomorrow. Anyone know if 4th gen springs with fit thirdgens? I have some eibach lowering springs for a 4th gen and was curious.

You got lucky on the hood though! Is that black interior too? Jealous!
Anyways, no I haven't got around to getting another tire. I got the rear drums working and also painted them. All I'm down to is cleaning it and changing the wiper blades!

Car is basically done! I got it out today and washed it, in the nice warm 35 degree weather lol! I parked it for a couple hours came back to start it and nothing. I was puzzled so I threw in a brand new battery and charged it. Still nothing, so I jacked the car up and hammered on the starter and tried starting it and it started right up! So it's not going to safety testing till my buddies lift is open and I can put a starter in it. Heres a quick picture I took.

Dooood... I have a Ram Air hood off of my 1988 Trans Am GTA that I can sell to ya for $500 if you're interested. Plus, I drive a semi and pass through Springfield on I-55 and I-72 all the time, therefore I could save you another $200 in delivery fees. It's in perfect shape. Let me know if you're interested.
DOOOOOOD, it looks sweet on there!!!
Why you getting rid of it?

Thanks guys!
carlos64030, thanks for the offer. I really don't have the money right now but, if you still have it in the future I'd be interested for sure!!!
As far as the starter situation goes I went ahead and bought a new one. I have $45 worth of O'reillys gift cards and the starter was $44. I'll probably put it in tonight. Now for the pictures!!!

Well I'm afraid that the knock is very likely a rod! I kept praying it was the flywheel which I haven't checked though. It holds consistent pressure as far as oil goes, so who knows. I have a 350 TPI in my 1987 Trans am GTA that I'm not going to use so I might put in a mild crane cam I have and throw on my JBA shorty headers. It sucks cause I really wanted to have it done in time for my 16th birthday but thats in 5 days Anyways she rides like a loose goose! Its the idler arm I found out. So add that to the list of setbacks! It needs all the bushings replaced which you would expect for 119k miles. I'm going to replace the shocks and throw in those eibach lowering springs and call her good!

I completely forgot you got to rewire stuff to put the tpi setup on so I might just reuse the TBI setup and put on the headers and call it good

Haha take your glasses off you read it right the first time, The 1987 GTA was a car my dad bought for $1,000 and I paid him in payments that summer. The Formula was only $450 and I am paying it off still, my dad is claiming the IROC-Z so its not mine. The first car I ever bought was a 1991 Caprice 9C1 with the LT1 for $150.
Now for the engine issue I picked up some suspension parts and while I was out and about picked up some oil additive that quiets noisy parts like a rod. Hopefully it will quiet the knock down and that will tell me if the knock is rod related for sure.

Yep my mistake, I wasn't thinking very hard lol. Its the 350 TBI, but they are awesome cars and just float over bumps. My dad has a 1993 with a set of 17in torque thrusts he is trying to sell, it looks good and rides awesome.

Re: New 1988 Formula i got
I was actually reading a thread on here about a knock but the oil pressure is fine. Which is my problem, a couple posts down a guy mentions a possible flywheel problem. That caught my attention and he said it's louder under the car if its a flywheel and after around 1k to 1,500 RPM it starts to quiet down, which is exactly what mine does. Hopefully it's the flywheel and after reading that it makes me feel better LOL.

I repacked the wheel bearings and put on a new idler arm, it rides a little better but needs shocks bad! It will be going to safety test sometime this week, possibly tomorrow.

The car still hasn't been safety tested lol....it sucks, but if it doesn't get picked up this week it's for sure going on saturday. I'm dead set on putting a flywheel in it, but worst case i'll stick a rod bearing in it. In the future I will put in a built tranny I have, well I have a 700r4 out of a ex police caprice that came with all the service records and I have a shift kit with all the goodies. Plus I have a megashifter I painted black pearl with silver leafing that will be going in it. My custom console lid is almost done too.
