Personally I hate you, only because I am jealous. The only thing I love more than a Formula, is a Pro/Am! Good catch, those are hard to find!

Re: 1990 pontiac pro/am firebird ????

I think I see a pro/am drive past my work sometimes. I'll have to get a better look. I was wondering about it though. Nice looking car.

Re: 1990 pontiac pro/am firebird ????

Also, if you want to do things that will increase MPG and slightly increase power as well, start by making the car more efficient with what it has already. For instance:

Intake, Spectre is a good cheap brand that allows you to piece together a custom intake, stocked at most parts stores.

Throttle body, if you are good with a dremel, or even fine sanding work, take it off and sand it down and polish it to a mirror finish.

O2 sensors, if they are original, replace them, they are likely fouled out and inefficient at this point.

Headers, (shorties if you are worried about strict emissions tests) headers for 3rd gens are cheap, easy to install and allow the motor to breath.

Cat back, cat backs are pretty cheap especially for a decent 3" single pipe kit, sounds good, looks good, and allows it to breath.

Electric water pump, takes stress off the motor, it no longer has to churn water!

Plugs and wires, again if they are stock they are probably long over due for a change. A set of performance wires and plugs will get it burning a little better.

Basically any bolt on or maintanence item that needs doing will help you a little bit, and it adds up. Personally a electric water pump made a HUGE difference on my car.

I'm sure others will be along to catch something I didn't think of. But enjoy the car and take care of her, she will take care of you. I've had mine since high school and refuse to let it go.

They are fairly rare, and to me, desirable. From what I understand they are a bit like SLP was for the 4th gen cars. Definitely a keeper either way.

Re: 1990 pontiac pro/am firebird ????

The best thing you can do right from the start is just make sure the car has a fresh tune-up on it. Change all your fluids, fresh plugs/wires/ cap & rotor. Go over your PVC system too, at 20 years old vaccum hoses and all their associated fittings like to crack and split (P.S. just replaced some of this stuff on my s10 and picked up 2mpg highway & a much smoother idle) A fresh catalytic converter would also help along with a fresh O2 sensor as previously stated.

Personally I wouldnt used a aftermarket intake (such as a spectre) on an LO3, your not going to see much if any power from it and they look horrible. Not to mention most (if not all) aftermarket set ups posistion the filter inside the engine bay which is not what you want to do. Inside the engine bay, all that filter will do is suck up hot air. Just go get a K&N or other high-flow washable filter, It will do more good than any piece together cone filter set up ever will on a LO3.

Once you get the car tuned up correctly you will be pleased with the improved MPG and throttle response. Once the car is tuned and healthy then start throwing aftermarket parts at it if thats what you want, until then your money is best spent elsewhere. Its not uncommon for TBI cars the get 26mpg+ on the highway (I have heard more in 5spd applications) which is far better than a Jeep will ever get lol. My Rubicon gets about 17mpg at best.

Re: 1990 pontiac pro/am firebird ????

Not to sure on the price, i do plan on doing a full tune up on it, it needs a tune up bad the wires are shot and so is the oil so im sure the plugs are in the same shape.
