Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

I hate people that have a white formula with the correct striping. I totaled my white 89 Formula with the red/black striping and wasnt even in the car.DONT ASK. Since then (1997) I have owned a gray 86 T/A, pacific blue 88 Forumla, and currently own a red 88 Formula. Its all about the look and handling, and of course what you like. For the future, the red Bird is going all black with black wheels. I would go white, but that striping package costs big bucks.

Unfortunately, I dont have any digital pics of any of them but when I get some nice black paint and wheels done Ill post them here. WTB MORE MONEY =)

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

bullydawg, my 2 cents is leave the front end you have, and keep the gta wheels, i think your car is awesome, not many around like it and it looks retro/80's without looking cheesy at ALL, it make me think WOW that's a really nice looking formula

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

Thanks. I too like the striping, And when I get it repainted, I plan on painting it the exact same. I am going to sell the GTA rims for a set of Black ZR1 (17x11 rear and 17x9.5 front) with a polished lip. I can get more pictures for everyone pretty soon here.

How much does the striping kit cost?

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

I priced the stripes in 1997 at around $800. I tried to price them recently and couldnt find any easily.

i recently upgraded the rear suspension and put a 3" hooker catback + cat on it.

Aside from Mongoose's car, this is the color scheme I like best on Formy's. Also the yellow and maui blue.

Haha, I figured that's probably all it was.

87 was the first year of the Formulas. And IIRC those rims were only used on the 87s and some of the 88s? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. And I also think that they used those rims on some of the TA's too.

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

The domed version of the wheel was used on the T/As from 1985 up until '87 and the Formula had them in '87. '88 was the first year for the "deep dish" as it was called.

I personally love the 87-89 front ends. Don't really like the 90-92 front ends too much. There's just something about the front bumper that just doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the car at all. To me, it's almost like seeing the ram air style hoods on the 4th gens on the 3rd gens. Just don't think it looks good. I also like the kind of spoilers that I've got on mine better than the flat one. What year did they stop using those?

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

The banshee style nose was used on the '91-92 model years with '91 being released in mid-March of 1990. I have the '91-92 style aerowing on mine. My original wing had already been refinished once before and had finally started to split in 3 places so I swapped the entire hatch for the updated wing. The fiberglass reproduction wings came out around 6 months later

Man, I love that 'vert.

Any idea on how much they're worth now-a-days? I'm assuming yours is all original?

Edit: Nevermind, read your sig. I see that it is all original.

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

The hardest part is finding one... If you do not care about having a 350, there is a really nice Formula Vert for sale in OH, he has been trying to sell it for some time, the car is REALLY nice, the downer is the car is an LO3,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti...RCHQ3aUSQ3a101

My particular car has only 36... almost 37,000 original miles. It spent most of its life in Flordia so the paint is shot and it needs another top... Otherwise it is as it appears... pretty clean.

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

Nothing wrong with an LO3, makes for a great cruiser. And if you so desired a TPI swap could be done but with such a rare car I'd leave it as is.

Re: Need pics of your Formula 88-90?

What I really liked about The formula Vert is...
1) not everyone has one, heck most people do not know a Formula vert exists...
2) It has a 350... another thing that does not exist in a convertible...
3) It has all ASC parts, therefore finding replacement parts is not impossible, unlike some of the other convertibles out there that would require custom tops or other custom made parts if they broke...
4) IMHO The ultimate 3rd gen Formula or any Firebird for that matter is a Firehawk...The Formula 350 Vert was a very close second on my short list of wants... When I was offered the car by Sam (previous owner) I grabbed it. There were actually 200 total 3rd Gens, camaros included, with the 350 or better the vast majority of 350's Verts were GTA's, I know of 141 of them...
