My 87. Crashed, then came back from the dead.
These are a few photos of my 1987 Pontiac Trans Am before I crashed it. I didn't even put 300 miles on the car before I was hit head on in a crash, which totaled the car out. I got the car for $1,200 in August of 2005, and crashed it in November of the same year.
The car seen next to it is my 1970 Formula 400 RAIII... different story for another time...
Upon my move, I had decided to fix the 87 Trans Am, my fix I mean just toss on a few parts, and move it, so that it can stay parked for another 3 years. I did not cound on the parts that I would find, or the price to pretty much re-build this car. The engine and Trans Am are good, diff and suspension, radiator etc. The only thing I needed was a hood, left fender, front bumper support, bumper cover, lights, light housing and all brackets, pretty much front end up to the radiator. I got all the parts I needed for around $300, including the hood and working lights. We slapped it together and next thing I know this wreck started to look more like a car! So I got to thinking about keeping it, and selling my daily driver, and replacing it with the Trans Am. A few weeks went by, and I got insurance on it and re-registered it. And the thought of replacing it was now a good idea, and a new plan.
So pretty much, we rebuilt the front end, painted it, and I started driving it again. Nothing special really, just a clean 3rd gen.
Car is a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am, with the LB9 305, 4 speed auto, loaded with extras including T-Tops, WS6 suspension and more, also has GTA wheels that came stock? I don't know if mine is a GTA, if it is please tell me how I can decode it!
Anyways here are some pics, enjoy!

GTAs don't have the front fender vents behind the tires, so my inclination is that no, it isn't a GTA.
If you have the SPID label, look for the Y84 RPO code on it.

The design started with the 2nd gens...Grand Prixs or was it Grand Ams? both?) and Fieros got a 15" version

Ok Ill look for that RPO code. Yeah, someone just said it could be a GTA 305 mainly because of the WS6, Wheels, and the engine that was ordered. But I guess it is just a high optioned car, damnit now I want a 5 speed.

Awesome T/A! If I didn't have my GTA, I would be searching for a black T/A with black "GTA" rims. That has always been my favorite 3rd gen combo. It could be my favorite T/A period. That's saying a lot considering how much I love the early models.
