Mine again....

Re: Mine again....
Not really...I've picked up two parts cars, and one may end up getting running & be saved - depends on how deep I want to get on it.
I'm just accumulating parts for it now, have the paintless dent repair guy coming over next week to take a look at it & may park it in his shop to let him pick away at it in his spare time. Still searching for that elusive doner car with the perfect grey custom cloth interior with split folding rear seat & deluxe luggage compartment trim that I need to restore the interior.....but I'll find it.

So jealous of your story! Wish I could locate my first car; my 84 Z28. Came up for sale on ebay about 6 years ago (and I found out long after the sale) and from there... who knows

Man you got some nice cars and your barn is impressive as well. I looked hard to find a nice 5spd car around here they are next to impossible to find. My 1st 3rd gen got wrapped around a light pole maybe 2yr after I sold it.

Re: Mine again....
What parts did you need off the red iroc? I had assumed you bought it for interior pets but then I noticed it had red interior.. I guess the black IROC has a decent grey interior??

Re: Mine again....
It may not end up as a parts car. I wanted it for the exhaust, the hood louvers, wheels, and stupid stuff like the under hood insulation, screws etc.. Fortunately or unfortunately it's really right on the fence of being too nice to pull apart & I may fix it up for my son to drive for the summer. We'll see - too cold to do anything out there now!

Re: Mine again....
So some bad news here....I had my paint-less dent guy here on Tuesday to take care of a couple things on my 89 Firebird and had him look at my IROC. Unfortunately the majority of the dings and marks in the car are not things that he can fix and with marks on EVERY body panel it was his recommendation that I just bite the bullet and paint the whole thing.
I had hoped to keep it original paint (mostly) but it looks like that will not be the case. Oh well, I've got a great paint guy and it will be stunning when done!

Re: Mine again....
It's getting warmer here and I had a free day so I started to empty the car out and start with a full inventory of what I had, what I needed....the simple answer on the interior is EVERYTHING!
But I did get my new hatch motor installed - had to swap over the cable solenoid while I was at it but that was easy - old one is on the left, new on the right prior to solenoid swap. Does anyone know what the white wire goes to? The old motor had one too and it was crimped to the yellow lead that has the crimp nuts on it.
I also found my build sheet! Well, at least I found where my build sheet used to be.

Re: Mine again....
I enjoyed reading your story! I had a 92 RS, it was nothing special; but it was a low mile, super clean, Quasar blue t-top car. We went everywhere in that car, but I sold it soon after our son was born. I've always wondered what happened to it...never thought of running an Autocheck report....good idea. Curiosity has me now.....

Re: Mine again....
Some things are meant to be - I was amazed at how easy my search was.
After working on the car Friday I'm also amazed at it's condition.
28 years old and it looks like this! My first collector car was a 68 Ram Air GTO, it was only 20 years old when I bought it and it looked like this!

Re: Mine again....
The car was moved into the work bay yesterday (after a quick ride around the neighborhood). I had knee surgery on Wednesday so I may not be able to do much on it just yet, but I've resigned myself to getting the black interior into it for now until I can find the proper grey custom cloth interior. There's a perfect one close, but the member here won't sell me the car.

Re: Mine again....
He & I talked about the car & the guy who was selling it & I told him what I wanted to do with it - buy it, put in my black interior & steal the grey interior out of it. He then went and bought the car and now says he really likes it, and won't sell it even though I've offered him a 50% premium on what he paid for it!
That's fine, I'll find one, but I'm not going to wait around to enjoy the car in the meantime.

Re: Mine again....
Am I reading that order form correctly? The G92 costs $14 and G80 was $85, but the deluxe luggage option costs $139? That's hilarious.

Re: Mine again....
Awesome story, beautiful looking IROC! Love the black! If I could find my first car i'd be happy also, a red 84 Camaro with an Iron Duke, 4 speed manual transmission. Had close to 200K when I sold it and it was spotless! Oh, and had a Firebird spoiler that I put on from a local junkyard and a dual exhaust muffler from a 91 Formula
As slow as the thing was, it was a blast to drive! Now I'm in Stallis w/a 92 25th Anniversary (go figure my name) Z28.

Re: Mine again....
30 Years ago today I ordered this car, I can still remember the day. It was built & delivered in April.
Three years ago today I posted a wanted ad on Craigslist & on a couple of other boards and through a member of the Yenko board, found it again. November 2014 I bought it back.

Re: Mine again....
My two, yes two interiors for it. The Grey Custom Cloth will be going in, the black one I bought only because I found it first. Near NOS floor mats got dropped off last night - thanks Erik!
I actually have 4 sets of the grey front seats at this point, had been planning on taking the best two passenger seats and swapping to make a good driver's but thanks to Beth (here on the board) got a call one night about the near-perfect set of fronts she just got.
Rears are close to perfect as well, would still spring for a perfect set!

I love this. I may have put the hatch on it at Norwood. Black IROCs are sweet.

Re: Mine again....
How cool that you found your exact car after so many years. 87 was a one year only interior and they are hard to find. Your car is still in beautiful shape.

Re: Mine again....
It is around here in fact yours is only the 2nd one I know of that doesn't have it. My sales man screwed up and we both thought it was standard equipment so I took it off the list. It was not easy driving through winter in Boston without one although when I did finally find it, it was an easy way to identify it.

Awesome story thanks for sharing. All of my early cars are in local junkyards, including a black z28, probably an 84 or so, I don't really remember.

Re: Mine again....
thats quite some luck. I would love to find my 86 TA but I dont think it is around. 3 years after I sold it to a friend he sold it to a lady who treated it poorly (IMHO) but I dont know where it is. I dont even have the VIN. It was in ohio when I sold it now I am in Cali.
Still sitting in the back corner of my barn, waiting for other projects to get cleared out of the way and for me to have time. Safe for now, will likely get a full resto.

Re: Mine again....
Time sure goes by fast!
Work has been busy, put two kids through college, bought/built a new house and moved & this May got married (we'd been together for 15 years so not really new news).
August 15th, with a jump start from my truck, she fired and drove out of the barn after hibernating for 6 years, drove into the trailer and made the move to the new house.
September 6th, she started again, this time on here own and backed out of the trailer, got washed for the first time in 6 years and I put 20 miles on her - felt REALLY GOOD!
October 1st I drove her over to my buddy's place and she got taken apart - full repaint/refinish, bare metal, all new NOS decals & emblems - nothing is too good....tomorrow she comes home again!
Drives out of the barn.
Loaded into the trailer with my other junk.
Coming out.
Washed for the 1st time in 6 years, got to drive.
At my buddy's place, about to get restored.
It's all about the details...

Re: Mine again....
Ah Janesville, WI. The cheese capitol for all cheese heads. I remember going up there as a child to buy 10 LB blocks of fresh chedder cheese from a small local manufacturer. Best cheese on the planet. Congratulations Chis, glad to see her getting some love. ! I'm sure she will look better than new.
I saw the first Camaro I've seen this year several times recently. It's in tough shape but the person who seems to own it works at a body shop. It may get some love soon. Each time I see it, something else is repaired. A 3rd Gen Firebird just showed up at the same shop. That one might be for resale. The Camaro go's home every night, the Firebird just stays on the lot.
