My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

So I'm on this site last night in the Southeast members section and see a post that says "Anyone interested in a read Deal?" I open it and read that he has an '83 SC camaro roller that's completely disassembled and has lost interest in it. He just want's someone to come get it out of his way for free. So I respond and shoot him a PM telling him that I would take it. We shoot back several emails and texts and I set up a time to drive the 180 miles today to get the car.
I just want to first of all thank him for this insane deal. If you are reading this, THANK YOU. Super nice guy, retired, nice 442 OLDS and an '83 SC that he'd done some work to, disassembled and lost interest.
Let me tell you what I just brought home. He said free and we settled on $1. No kidding. The car is 100% rust free and never been in an accident. The body is literally laser straight. All the interior plastics came with the car as well as a brand new headliner with matching new sunvisors and sail panels. It came with new carpet and a custom aluminum dash. There's a brand new fuel tank, brand new tail lights, brand new hood and hatch struts.
Here's the crazy part. I look underneath and it has a 10 bolt posi. He says it has .410 gears with aftermarket axels. It has all Hotchkis suspension in the back, subframe connectors, eibach lowering springs on all four corners, Wilwood front brakes, brand new struts/shocks, completely rebuilt front suspension with poly bushings, new Z28 steering box, new Goodmark steel cowl induction hood. The engine compartment is all smoothed out and refinished too. I'm like, are you kidding me?! The body is complete including the doors, bumpers and goodmark hood.
He's like, you are getting one hell of a deal. I'm like Hell yeah. I can see all the work you've done to it. Are you sure? He say's that he's already keeping / sold all the parts that he wanted to. engine/tranny/seats/etc...He just want's the shell out of his way so he can start to work on his 442 he just bought. So he fills me out a bill of sale for $1, signs the title, helps me load the car and an entire truckload of parts and I bring it back home. The only pics that I have are the ones that he sent me. I'll take some more tomorrow, assuming that when I wake up this wasn't some crazy dream.
Here's what pics I do have.

Not many parts left to "part" on that one.

I reckon you're in the market for some parts now.

Not much parts? You read the first post right? It's a complete car minus some interior stuff and wiring. Some assembly required? Sure. I brought home a full truck load in the bed and the back seat of my friends truck. There's probably at least $1500+ in suspension in the car that's never been driven on. I figured you'd guys go nuts over this find, especially for a buck. This is the kinda car I hope to find (if you read the 1st post) everytime I look. It's loaded with goodies.

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

I wasn't ragging on you.

If you have the time and space to deal with the miscellaneous parts while you sell them off individually; or you have the time, tools, space, and skills to bring to bear while you accumulate the needed parts (motor, transmission, seats, etc.) to build it into a running car, you are truly my envy.

Did it come with a street-able title?

Keep us posted on what develops with it. Should make a great back-from-the-grave story.

I guess technically I have $185 invested in it including the gas, trailor rental and feeding my buddy lunch and dinner. Not too bad.

I know your weren't. I guess I took your reply as if you'd just looked at the pics and figured that was all I got. To tell you the truth, IDK what I'm going to do with it yet. My initial thought is to put all the suspension, brakes, rear end into my '84 and put my old suspension in this one. Make it a roller again and sell / part it out. Putting it back together will take a lot of work, especially with no wiring in it . Not sure yet.

Not totally sure. It hasn't really sunk in yet. Thinking of swapping all the suspension and brakes into my '84 and put my stock stuff from the '84 into this one and them maybe selling the shell to someone who want's to build a drag car. Don't know for sure.

Thanks, I'm on CL every day too. I found this car on this site in the southeast members section. Was first to respond and go get it. Cash money huh? I actually have about $185 in it with the gas/trailer/feeding friend that helped. Not too bad though considering...

That's not bad at all! I was wondering what you were going to do with it. Like you said I would swap all the good suspension/brake parts onto your 84.

Wow! This thing is awesome! If it had all the wiring in it then I would say to go ahead and build it. I just hope whoever you give it to once you're done pulling parts off of it (if that's the route you take) takes it and rebuilds it because that thing has a nice body.

For that price, you could drop in a LS3 crate motor and trans and have it running for under $10k!

Dude I saw your smooth engine compartment post, and wondered where this "new" car came from. That is AWESOME! I wish you were closer I would make you a real offer on that car. I have been wanting an SC so bad recently. Please leave it an SC if your gonna end up building it.

Yeah, the wiring is the scary part. I would just about need another
parts car with a good, complete harness front to back and all the dash
stuff

Shipping would cost more than I'm sure I would be willing to pay for a body& panels. Its cool man. I really don't need to test my wife's patience that much right now

So I see a new page to your build thread coming...

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

Haha. I hear ya. You know I just sold my Iroc like 3 weeks ago
and now I have another Camaro. My wife totally understood
because of the minimal investment. She still had to give me
a hard time though.
As far as a build. I'm leaning towards a full suspension swap
between the two cars and then start hanging all the panels back
On. The hatch, fenders and rear bumper are on. I need to get
A hinge pin/ bushing kit to hang the doors back on. Really
the only thing missing on the body is the headlight bar. It was
cracked when he took it off so it got trashed. I would need a complete
wiring harness, dash, console and seats + drivetrain. I guess
I could always take my V6 5speed out of the 84 and put in it. Then do
my V8 6spd swap into the 84

I bought a cheeseburger for $1 and thought I was getting a deal. Then you go and buy a car for the same amount?

One hell of a deal, I wish I could find one like that!

Lol. Now that's funny. I do seem to have the nack for finding
good deals but this is definitely a once in a lifetime score.
Now if I could find a badass sbc for next to nothing, I'd really
be in good shape.

Lol. Normally that would be a great return but even though
I paid $1 for the car, it cost me about $180 to go get it and
bring it home. That being said I've been researching all the parts
that are on it and came with it and I'm sitting on about $3200
Worth of parts not including the car. I may sell a few parts but
the car isn't going anywhere. I have the hood listed in the for sale section.

I see a nonadjustable jegster ta there too.

As for wiring, just buy a universal street rod harness.

I like the color too!

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder. If I'm going to swap suspensions if I should even put the rear springs in my car since none of the rear suspension is adjustible to match the springs. I'd hate to have all this free rear suspension stuff and not be able to use it just to lower the rear 1". IDK. I'd have to sell everything that goes to the rear, just to rebuy it in adjustible. Seems like a waste.
He had a GM style Summit wiring harness for sale that he'd bought for the car. I would have bought it and the summit seats and the LT1 that he had if I hadn't just spent all my money on wheels and tires. lol
I think the paint is the reason he gave up on it. He tried to paint it himself and it came out bad. Horrible orange peel. IDK if he didn't mix something right or what, but it came out bad. After the pics of it being painted, he sanded a lot of it back down, so it doesn't look as nice as in the pics he sent me. He did tell me that ahead of time though, so it wasn't a suprise.

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

Does it have a title?

Its too ggod of a shell to scrape, but too empty for most as a project car.

The dash kills it, looks like he was building a drag car.

I would pull all the good parts off, swap some stock stuff on to keep it rolling and try to resale the shell to a drag racer.

Take the good parts you can use for your car, sell the rest here (at rediculois low prices to 'pay it forward ) and you'll come out ahead! And maybe someone will keep the shell alive!

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

Yep. Good title included. Yeah, the real killer is the missing wiring and dash. It will be A LOT of work to put it back together. Your thinking is pretty much right along with mine. I'm definately swapping supsensions between the two cars. I could hang the doors and front bumper back on and the shell would be complete. The hatch and rear bumper are on now. I am selling the hood currently. I need some money for other things right now + the style of the Goodmark hood really isn't my taste to be honest.
Between the perfect condition of the body, no rust, no wrecks, and the show quality engine compartment, it could be a really cool car. It's perfect for a drag car. No interior, no extra frills on the body. Put a basic harness in for just the necessities, drivetrain and go race.
Thinking that is going to be my plan. I don't want to be greedy for money with selling the extra parts, but at the same time I need as much as I can to start the V8 swap fund. That will be next.

If you were close I would buy the hood for the right price, but your way too far. Yeah that is a great start to a drag car. Well it seems you have a good plan going and it's gonig to help other fix their cars up so it's a win win for many.

Thanks, will let you know if I decide to put it back together. Thinking I'm just going to swap suspensions, hang all the panels and resell it as it. That's the plan for now anyways.

Progress today. Got the subframe connectors and all the rear suspension out of the roller. Gonna borrow my friends pressure washer and clean everything up. Then I'll repaint everything and swap it into my '84. So my car's about to have a 10 bolt posi w/.410 gears, strange axels, hotchkis adj. panhard bar, eibach springs, jegs subframe connectors, jegs torque arm and jegs control arms, new KYB shocks. My 84 already has a Z-28 rear sway bar with poly bushings. And that's just the rear! I will start pulling the front suspension tomorrow. Today's progress...
Man, there is overspray on everything!

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

Lol, thanks. I try. I actually have a system that works for me and also keeps the wife happy because I'm not spending any money from the checking account on anything. I am ALWAYS looking at CL and on here for deals. I've ran across several good deals that last few years. Here's a few and what I did with them. All my '92 Z body panels mirrors, grill and foglights came from a '92z roller that I paid $300 for. I kept what I wanted, then sold all the black interior, dash, gauges, wheels and tires, hood blisters, rear end and then resold the shell. Came out with some great parts for free and a wad of cash in my pocket. This is that car.

Then I found this 88' Iroc-Z in Ala for $400. Was going to keep it and fix it up, but wound up reselling it for $800. Add another wad of cash to the pocket.
Name: 1988Iroc013.jpg
Views: 118
Size: 123.4 KB
Then I bought this '86 Iroc for $1300, got it running, but not so well and resold it for $2000, Add a little more to the camaro fund.

I've bought a pair of '83 Z and '86 Z parts cars from the same guy just because I wanted the gauges and dash pad. Paid $600 for the pair. I put the gauges and mint dash pad into my '84 and completely stripped and sold all the good parts. Easily made over a $1500 for the parts and one shell got resold, the other got crushed. It wasn't worth saving. Wad of cash in the camaro fund, more free parts. Then I bought an '86 camaro V6 parts car. Paid $275 for it because it had mint black interior. Sold all the interior, dash, dash pad, tail lights, rear end and then resold the junk body to a salvage place for $200. More money for the camaro fund. And of course the '83 SC that this post is about. Got about $180 total invested in it. Gonna get about $2300 in suspension goodies for free, sell another thousand in loose parts, then I'll put the shell back together and resell it for a few hundred. My seats were free. Came from a guy I knew a few years ago. Went to his house and the were sitting in his yard. He had painted the inserts black and then didn't like them. He gave them to me. I spent an entire weekend steamcleaning the uphoulstry paint off them and came out with this.

All the camaro's above gave me enough money to get my car painted, new weatherstripping, new carpet and new wheels I tires. My fund was completely tapped out when I came across the '83. This will put some more money in the fund, possibly will buy a few more parts cars to double/triple the money over the summer and have a nice little wad of cash saved up for my V8 6 speed swap. This is the only way I've found with the budget that we have as a family to still be able to fix up a nice car without spending money from an actual paycheck.

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

It would be really easy to get that car running as a complete car, even with all the wiring missing. Plus you can pick to do whatever you want...you can take the entire dash with the interior wiring from a 90-'92 Camaro and stick a speed density TPI motor in it if you wanted to. As long as the engine wiring harness matches the dash harness everything will work like factory.

Yeah, that's why I wouldn't part the body out. It's too nice of a start for a nice car. What it needs is someone with a wrecked or rusted out car that wants to swap everything from there car to it. That would be the perfect senario..

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

That panhard bar is adjustable. It is just the older kind you have to unbolt and turn it (or at least it looks like it is). I wouldn't think you would really need an adjustable TA until you are ready for an engine swap. Aside from that the only thing you might want if you lower it is LCA relocation brackets, which are pretty cheap. If he was going for a drag set up though you might not like those rear springs anyways if they are rated for drag cars.

Re: My $1 Megascore! You won't believe me, I swear.

You know that TA isn't solid. Near the front of it it the bar slides inside of a bigger bar. Does that mean I can still use it like an adjustable one? Seems like the rear would still be centered since it would slide. Idk. The springs are eibach, the 1" drop I think. I asked. He said he was building a mean street car.
