$300 dollar Camaro

I picked up my new beater Camaro. I bought it from a junkyard in Scweinfurt, Germany on the army base. It didn't run when I bought in, but I've got it running now. It took a few hours troubleshooting the fuel system and once I did it ran pretty rough and wouldn't stay running very long. Just about every vacuum line was hooked up wrong, like really wrong (heater control valve hooked to constant vacuum, EGR hooked up to nothing, etc.), it now runs pretty good. It needs a lot of work on the body and interior, but for what I paid for it I have zero complaints, I haven't found the RPO sheet, but I'm thinking it may be a ZO3 heritage edition RS.

Specs: 1992 RS 305 TBI, auto trans, haven't had a chance to figure out the gear ratio, but it's definately an open diff.
Good: Corvette leather seats and 4th gen leather for the rear in good condition, but two different colors for the front and back. runs and drives, brand new tires all around. Paid $300 dollars.
Bad: Trunk release doesn't work, with switch or key, have to crawl through the back and pop it with a flat tip. No headliner, Front bumper smashed up, aero body kit broken in multiple spots, kink in the passenger side quarter panel. Fuel pump access panel chopped into trunk area (ugly job too)

When I bought it I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it, I kind of bought it for parts for my Iroc, but the things I was after (posi disc rear, T-tops, etc.) weren't on it. So my next plan was to get it running and then decide wether to make it a stripped down racer or just sell it. I'm kind of leaning towards stripping it down to nothing building a roll cage and building it into weekend killer. I also bought a LT1 last week and I'm thinking of building it carburated and sticking it into it, I'd also like to find a manual swap somewhere around here, but that's pretty unlikely. This is going to be done as cheaply as possible and with little regard cleanliness.

I've spent the last nights fixing the little things and setting things back to factory specs. Tonight I adjusted the timing and if I had to guess I would say the previous owner attempted this without disabling the ECM control, because with it connected the timing was right at 0 degrees and when I unpluged it the base timing was off the charts in the 30 degrees advanced area. I set base timing at 0 degrees and now it runs soooo much better, the throttle response is awesome and the acceleration is more characteristic of a V8. I previously suspected a vacuum leak the way it would bog down and choke itself out when flipping the throttle, but now I think this was the problem.

The RPO sheet is missing in the center console, but I got into the back, had to use a flat tip to pop the hatch, but the RPO sheet was in the rear storage box, and it is not a ZO3.

I'm waiting on parts to get here to do a full tune up, but at the moment I'm very happy with it.

Not anymore, I ETS'd (got out) back in 08, and have been running a MWR (Moral, Welfare, and Recreation) junkyard in Bamberg since then.

Thanks guys, I had hoped that after adjusting the timing that it would start easier in the morning, but no, it still sucked to get it going this morning, a little easier but still not right. I guess the next thing to do will to replace all the vacuum lines and adjust the minimum air, IAC, and TPS until my tune up stuff arrives.

I know my last car before this one was a $400 Blazer that didn't run right until the 3rd fuel pump.

Not anymore, there's 3 in bamberg and 2 of them are mine. I'm the only 3rd gen on the euro muscle forum, but there's quite a few 4th gens and the 5th gens are starting to show up. At the same place I picked this car up is some guys parting up an 02 Z28 so I picked up an aluminum driveshaft, front brakes, and fuel pump and tank for a buck 50. Those parts are going on my Iroc though.
