600$ 86 Iroc
Yesterday after much hair pulling out, I managed to pick this car up. It is a 86 Iroc. It is not near perfect and does not run, is missing all exterior badging. This will be my project from now until probably forever, it will be a slow project until the summer when i begin work again and will have money to spend for parts and repairs.
The seller said that the block is bad but we'll see.
Let me know how you think I did for 600$. I am aware that the dash says Z28 - Tuned Port Injection.
I have considered the 4th gen dash swap, but am unsure until i know what i will do with the engine.. LSx? Just rebuilt current with new block?
The dreaded T-top bar.
Edit: Engine
Tomorrow I will be tearing out the seats and whatever else to see how my floor boards are.. wish me luck!..
Does anyone have any input on repairing the driverside taillight or should i just replace it?

Re: 600$ 86 Iroc
That looks like an Iroc, it would be a lot of work for the previous owner just to make it look like one then sell it. It's got the TPI engine and the Iroc body, everything points to it except the steering wheel which is from a regular Camaro or a berlinetta, the Z28/Iroc steering wheel was 3 spokes and had a round horn with the Camaro logo on it. But for 600 bucks its a good deal, the Iroc is always a good purchase they never go out of style even today its a cool car that gets attention from the guys with modern muscle. First check the block and then slowly work on the inside. I would just replace the cracked dash pad with a new or used one that's in good shape and I can't see any visible damage to the taillight.

Re: 600$ 86 Iroc
The vin and vin on the rpo code match. Is the vin supposed to be stamped anywhere other than just whats visible from the windshield? It has the b4z code. so it is a iroc. Im pretty sure the steering wheel and dash have been replaced and since then broken. Haha.. yeah im really likeing the 4th gen firebird/ ta swap in these.

Could be some paint smeared on the taillight maybe you can clean it off otherwise I'd just get another used on off eBay left side Iroc / z28 taillight that's no prob.

Re: 600$ 86 Iroc
Yeah thanks. I'll try some fine sand paper sometime. Got into tearing the interior out today. The rear has almost no rust. some surface rust in the tire well but nothing more. The passanger floor board is the worst and the passanger side rear seat has a small hole thats easily repairable. Both sides have surface rust but its a freaking ttop car lol. Seats are ok, could be reapolstered. The wiring definately needs some work. Drivers taillight does not work, blinkers dont work, brights do not work. Reg lights, fogs, both work. How much does a wiring harness run for the interior and dash?? Also, i opened my hatch and now it refuses to close within 1".. the button does not work.. woooh. Projects. Pictures coming whenever my sister is done writing her paper on my computer.

We'll start with the good and end with the bad..
Rear well:
DS well:
Pass well:
Drivers side floorboard: It could be much worse. Nothing going through, i think its mostly surface rust.
Pass floorboard:
Wiring mess for hatch:
Does everyone's hatch wiring look like this? It looks pretty chopped up to me.

Re: 600$ 86 Iroc
When you get to the engine part of the work if the block is beyond repair or It will cost too much then ditch it and look to score a used 350 block xD then swap the TPI into it just use bigger Injectors like 24lb

Re: 600$ 86 Iroc
You can diconnect the coil wire so she doesnt start, just enough to hear any problems. If not she if she starts, just dont give it to much gas. Worse case is she doesnt crank at all, motor could be seized. Make sure theirs oil & water & see if any of it leaks out, then go from their.
