Looking good! Nice to see another Lincoln guy here on the boards. How you have made this much progress with all the goofy weather we've been having is a mystery to me LOL!

i dont get why you would smooth out the bumper. it is plastic and flexable, so wouldnt it crack if the bumper flexes?

Re: Rebirth of a 86 Iroc-z
If you use the right materials it won't. Bondo will crack eventually, but fiberstrand or a plastic type filler should hold up good.
And it looks alot cleaner, sleeker, and sexier IMO.

Re: Rebirth of a 86 Iroc-z
Your car is looking good, could you tell me how you fix your body with naming the tools like what size grit sandpaper (used machine), how many layers of primer (what brand) etc. I plan on doing same thing to my car until summer comes.

Re: Rebirth of a 86 Iroc-z
For the damage on passenger rear i used a hammer to get some of the dents out then used bondo to finish it out for the rear bumper to smooth it out i used fiberstrand bondo i started with 60 grit all around this will remove the paint quick then step up to 320, 800, then 2000 i used a sanding block to do all the work i used bout three layers of rusteleom car primer if you have any other questions feel free to ask

And Why would you use anything higher than 600 on primer or anything before paint? And duraglass on a bumper cover?

Sanding with anything higher than 600 really gives you no adhesion, for high build, sealer, base coat etc.....

Re: Rebirth of a 86 Iroc-z
No, I wouldnt, their is no reason. After your done primeing, block with 150, if it looks good, re prime, and then block with 320, then 400, then wet sand with 500. And you will be ready for base or sealer then base. If you want you can do 600 after 500. Just make sure you dont have any bare metal or filler showing threw or the base or metalic base with swell/run/mottle. 1000,1500,2000,2500, and 3000 is all for detaling and color sanding after you lay down your clear.
