Another convertible project: black/red '92 Z03 Z28 heritage car
Yes, another one...so we're building two 1992 Z28 convertibles at the same time. I just picked up a black Z28 vert tonight with red leather interior. The body has a fresh paint job but the ground effects, bumpers, and spoiler weren't painted yet so we're going to finish painting those. The seats need to be reupholstered and the interior put back together, and it needs a new top.
It's a prior salvage title car from a light front impact, the bumper is off the car right now so I saw the damage and it's very minor, I can't believe they gave it a salvage title actually. It's got 162,xxx on it but the body is in EXCELLENT shape, not a spot of rust on it. It's going to be a fixxer upper and then we'll sell it.
For those that didn't see my other thread, my dad and I are also building a rare purple haze/silver heritage '92 Z28 vert too
I can't stand the ugly stripes. Those won't be on there after it's repainted. It's getting the correct heritage edition red stripes and we're going to color match the '91 alloy wheels I have sitting at home.

Let me know when you are ready to sell I want something for an Ls1 swap... Also, is that a door off of a different car?
Looks like a great project... 91-92 Z28's are awesome.. PLUS Z03 + Convertible. That is hard to top.

I'm hoping it's ready to sell in less than 2 months. I believe the door is off another car. The other one was probably dinged up from the accident. The frame on the car looks really good, I can't see why it was totalled really.

Ok. Help me with something please. By your own admission you've parted cars that can be (easily?)repaired, yet you'll dump a couple grand into one that has a salvaged title and expect to sell it for a large enough profit to justify your time and expense? I have no intentions of sounding like a dick (this time ), I simply don't understand the logic.

Plus, it's not going to take as much money as you think to finish putting it together. And I got it at a price that I feel was very low, considering I could turn around right now and part the thing out and at least come out even, since all the convertible specific parts are there and in tact, and the body panels are in immaculate shape. The most expensive pieces will be getting the new top and the leather seats upholstered. My dad and I will paint the remaining body panels that need it so we will basically just be in it for the cost of paint, We know how to do everything ourselves, as we've put together as many cars as we've taken apart.

I figured $650 for a leather seat kit(dude on the East Coast, although calling him back his price jumped to $900) and paint supplies, say at least $600, puts you at $1250 before everything else. The top on my 67 was $1300, so even half of that puts you at around $2k. No?

Paint will be around $200, we have a nice hook-up on that. So i'm looking at putting around $1,300 into the car and I feel once it's done and completed, even with the salvage title, I should be able to get close to $6,000 for it. It's a very very rare car.

He's a guy over here in St Peters but unfortunately doesnt do customer cars. Only reason he does mine is because he always did my cars before his business took off with dealership business. I wish he'd do personal cars still because I could refer him a lot of business.

Re: Another convertible project: black/red '92 Z03 Z28 heritage car
Some small updates.
The new top is ordered, the door panels are being re-attached to the window sweeps, and the seats are being reupholstered next week (or at least will be started on next week).
The fuel pump is dead. But the engine sounds healthy, we put some carb cleaner in the intake and got it to run for a few seconds. When we went to do the fuel pump we noticed there was rust in the tank, so I'm using another tank from one of the cars I parted out, and will get a new pump this week to throw in it.
We got the fenders fitted on it, and in doing so noticed that the passenger fender is from a coupe so it didn't have the brackets like on a convertible fender. We used a little ingenuity to figure up something.

No wonder the fuel pump was shot. The whole inside of the tank was rusty just like the sending unit and floater. I'm putting a different tank in from one of my parts cars with a brand new pump and she'll be good to go.
I also picked up a good set of rear leather seats. The front seats are at the upholstery shop with the door panels getting redone.

Actually the lower parts of the back seats are in pretty decent shape. I'll sell both of the old lower cushions for cheap if you want them. Would you need them shipped or can you pick them up in St Louis?

I got the seats installed that I bought from a member here, along with the interior panels for the rear. It's starting to look like something. I can't wait to get the door panels and front seats back from the shop getting reupholstered.

The car now has new outter window sweeps which is a nice touch. I got some of the ground effects on this weekend as well as the plastic quarter panel caps. The rocker panel gfx are ready to go on. And the bumpers and hood are in primer ready to be sprayed. I'm deciding whether to spray the red stripes on or have a vinyl shop make a set for me...

Updates!
The bumpers are painted and clear coated, just laid down the stripes on the hood and it will get clear coated tomorrow and we'll start working on the stripes for the trunk and spoiler.

It isnt in need of a "restoration". The floors and body panels were straight and rust free besides the dent on the passenger side door which we will get removed before the door panels go on. It just needed a fuel pump, filter, and new fuel tank to get it running again. The rest is just minor things that need replacing like the top and seats.

Re: Another convertible project: black/red '92 Z03 Z28 heritage car
It's coming along pretty nicely. The interior isn't done yet, but the outside is mostly finished. The hood doesn't line up completely just yet, and it's missing the grill. Still needs a good buffing and the new convertible top.
It's got a bad misfire so we're going to track that down this week and hopefully get it running right before we drive it to the upholstery shop for the interior work to be done.
I ordered a set of red Z28 emblems from Hawks this week also so those will be here soon.

Re: Another convertible project: black/red '92 Z03 Z28 heritage car
We had to put new injectors in the car this week because it was running like complete crap. Also had to fix a short in the coil. It runs really good now
I also got the new red '91-'92 Z28 emblems on it like it should have, and put a new dash emblem in because the previous owner painted the letters red on the "Z28" and it really didn't turn out very well.
It's scheduled to go to the upholstery shop next weekend for the top/seats/door panels.
