Bought another Iroc today. UPDATE. Got her running!
Found on my local CL. It's an 1986 Iroc with a 305 tpi, 700R4. New tires, nice Black interior. Car was repainted about 6 years ago, but needs a little tlc. T-tops have new seals. Has Flowmasters. No rust in the floors. Says the fuel pump is bad, but I think it's the relay. He was asking $1500. I offered $1000 and we settled at $1300. Anyway, here's the pics.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
He said his mom hit it in the driveway. The grey '88 is still pretty much the same. I did get the interior all cleaned up. The only real change is that it took the spot of my '91z in the garage that I just sold last weekend. This '86 is pretty nice. I thought I'd get a few more replies on the good deal. It's okay though, my feelings aren't hurt.

Were you at least nice when you stole it? Great deal! Hopefully when I am home next time I can find a clean roller to buy for an LsX swap... You seem to have all the luck...

$1300 is a pretty good deal for what looks to be a solid car.....I'd also have to say you stole that....

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
Thanks for the kind replies guys. I can't wait to get it home. I've paid for it, but it's still at the old owners house til Friday. My friend and I went back out to it today so he could see it and he can't believe how nice it is for what I paid. I can't wait to get it home, clean it up, buff and wax it...etc. Oh yeah and get it running too. lol.

One more day and she'll be home!! Picking her up tomorrow at 2:30. I'm hoping we can get it to crank and drive it home, otherwise I'll have to get a trailer.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
I know, and this Iroc will probably take priority since it's so much nicer and just about road ready. I mean. I really have a delima. My '84, I've been wanting to paint this whole summer, then I bought the '88 because it was too gooda deal to pass up. And now I bought the '86 because IT was too gooda deal to pass up. Too many projects and not enough paychecks. lol I don't know where to start anymore.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
I did get it home yesterday, but towed it. I threw a battery in it and it definately isn't getting any fuel. Today I'm gonna wash, buff and wax the paint. Then I'm gonna put on my mint dashpad from the '91 I sold. It has a set of walmart foglights in it, so I'm gonna take the factory ones off my '88, clean them up and put them on. I didn't realize til I got it home, but it has a disk brake rear. One of my favorite options is the overhead console and it still has the flashlight in it. My wife is in love with it and asked if it was gonna be her's. lol

One thing that I'm puzzled about are the valve covers. They are the old school one that attach at the top and bottom, not the centerbolt ones. It still has the tpi though. Could this be an older engine with a tpi bolted on, or do the centerbolt heads have provisions to use older style valve covers? IDK.

Got her home yesterday. Today, spent the whole morning washing, buffing and waxing the outside. Then I armoralled and vacuumed the inside. Have a friend coming over later to see if we can solve the "no fuel" problem. Here's today's pics.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
yeah, it would have been a lot more if it would crank. I'm kinda taking a little chance on it without being able to drive it before buying it. He say's it runs strong, so we'll see. It's still a great deal though.. It used to have a system in it. There's all sorts of monster cables in the hatch.
My immediate plans are to;
1) get it running
2) get front chin spoiler and rear bumper repainted
3) replace walmart foglights with factory foglights
4) put Iroc decals back on it, just looks naked...

thanks. It's just that metal plate that goes in front of the gauges. I thought they were all like that. My '84 is the same.

Interesting that the oil and water temp gauges are metric (for export).
The one (metal piece) in my '84 was black (idiot lights and dual read needles) as well as the two other clusters I used to make one complete gauge cluster.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
I know right. I need to look through my boxes of misc. camaro stuff and see if I have a good one.
I think we've found the problem. The wiring harness at the fuel pump relays is in bad shape and someone has tried to do some work. Looks like some of the wires are swapped around in the relays. I jumped a hot wire to where the fuel pump wire goes and the fuel pump came on. There are 3 relays on the firewall there. Anyone give me the correct wiring sequence (color) to each relay. What does each relay do?

Raining today, so no work on the engine.
I did replace the bad dashpad and horn button though. The dashpad is mint and the horn button is better than what was there. It will do for now. Oh yeah, also found a cig lighter in a box of parts, so I put that in too.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. lol
Got her running today. Woohoo!!
As stated above, I bought the car not running and the P.O. couldn't figure it out. He told me that the head gaskets were just replaced. My friend and I had already done all the electrical checks and realized that neither the computer or any of the relays were getting any power so that made us believe that it had a wiring issue. I immediately thought.." I bet they pinched a wire on the back of the motor when the put the intake manifold back on. So we started at the battery and checked the orange power wire that powers the ecu/fuel pump and noted that it had power after the inline fuse, but none at the relay. So we pulled the whole wiring harness up from behind the motor and sure enough, where that one wire branches off to like 6 other orange wires, it was broken in half / pinched. We reconnected all the wires back together and checked the voltage at the relays with the keys on and we had 12volts. Turned
the key and it fired right up, although very rough. I don't think whoever did the headgaskets set the timing right, it is way off. Tomorrow, he's gonna bring his timing light over and we'll
set the timing on it. There was also a vacuum line unhooked under the plenum, but that didn't help it run any smoother. Also noted that it had a remanufactured computer for whatever reason. My wife is in love with it and is claiming it as hers. lol. TTYL. I'm just excite to hear it run.

Yeah, so far no extra money in it besides wax supplies. Hoping to get it running good enough this weekend to take it for a drive.

Yeah, and he's lucky it didn't have an electrical fire and burn to the ground. We set the timing yesterday. Whoever put the distributor in, had it in 3 gears off. With the #1 piston at TDC, the rotor button was facing the front of the engine.

If I hadn't been sick all week, I probably could have got more work done. I've had strep throat and just layin' around all week. Feel like crap. I hope to have it running good enough for a road test this w/e.

Re: Bought another Iroc today. UPDATE. Got her running!
I know, right. You gotta remember though that I bought it not running and the PO had tried / replaced everything to fix it. It had sat in his parents garage for over a year. So I took a risk on buying it. (somewhat). My secret weapon is I have a friend that worked for GM for 20 years and he knows tons about F-body's and GM cars in general. He also has all the cool tools and gadgets to test just about anything. We looked at it for about 1 hour and figured out that the engine wiring harness must have a break in it and it did. Fixed it in about 30 mins. That plus the distributor being installed wrong. So, I took a gamble and will wind up with a pretty nice Iroc in the end.
