it's an older style NTTGA decal. They changed the logo recently, so those decals aren't made anymore

Re: 58mark's restoration thread

thanks! by this time tomorrow I hope to be able to call this project DONE

after changing the stripes from satin to glossy, I decided to make the buckets the same. when I did that, then the grill looks odd because it wasn't glossy. I repainted it, and reinstalled it today

had a great visit with rbjones today! he dropped by to see the car and brought a friend with him (sorry, can't remember his friends screen name, i think he's a TGO member too) He's now officially the first person TGO'er to see the car in person

thanks for the visit!

Re: 58mark's restoration thread

well... I did my last thing to the car today... maybe.

here's the deal. I like louvers, especially because I keep musical instruments in my hatch area in between students. I like the protection they offer. My tint isn't in very good shape, nor is it that dark

I'm considering going to limo tint on the hatch to eliminate the need for the louvers. It will be around $100, but what's another $100 after all the money I've spent so far?

I might try one more time to paint my louvers and have them come out acceptable.. I've lost count how many times I've tried, and I always get trash in there. I'm using enamel (because I already had enamel on there before) and I haven't had any luck plishing or buffing them, so I'm trying to get it right without the polishing

I'll post detailed pictures all the way around the car after the NTTGA meeting this sunday

Re: 58mark's restoration thread

its next to impossible to not get trash in paint while spraying unless youre in a paint booth...theres always gonna be something floating in the air thats gonna find its way to your wet paint.

its possible, but not easy. I made a booth with 4 walls and a roof made of plastic, wet floor, and was VERY carful with my movements and where i aimed the gun. i didn't find anything in the paint/clear. (painted a boat black)

looking good mark

Not sure...snading might be harder than you think! LOL
Had the window tint re-done in mine this year, only lasted 13 years! 250 for all the windows and the hatch is all one piece. After you're done it will look just fine no matter how you do it!

With the new weatherstripping, the new seats, the remote controlled trunk release and door locks, and the fact that I gave it a major tune up AND fixed a starting problem, it really does feel like a new car

Get to take my wife on a date tonight in the NEW car!

I tried it wrapped all the way around and didn't think it looked as good. It was starting to push the limits of looking like an IROC clone

By the way, I guess you can't say anymore that you've never seen anybody upgrade a temporary rattlecan paintjob, can you? It has been done, at least once. LOL

If the car had been assembled before i covered the stripes in clear, I probably would have extended them to the front bumper, but not around the corner

The front edge of the plastic didn't have the right angle to it, but a nice wide piece of tape stuck to the hood took care of that

I still have the plastic, and have told a friend he can use them whenever he wants to paint stripes.

I wonder if there's a market out there for heritage stripe templates?
Like this! And double checking all measurements.
