Hairysox33, I am very interested to know if you have started on your front end yet? This is a very interesting blog and I like the pics!

Nope, I have been dragging butt on that, even installing the torque arm. Its quite cold this time of year, and the car is a ways away from my living arrangement. I'll get to it after finishing up the exhaust, torque arm, and a good tune up.

Re: 1991 Z28
Havent had a chance yet. I really suspect a clogged flexible line on the drivers side. 1990 RS I had did the exact same thing, so fingers crossed.... Thats a crucial safety thing That obviously needs to be addressed before any sort of track time! I work 12's, but after work tonight I might go to the garage and install the torque arm.

Very nice project.
I started on my 1991 Z28 this winter as well. But I started from the outside first. So painting, and interior to do, after that I will start on suspension and brakes.

Terrible. I have to get all the parts from the US which costs me loads of money. After paying for shipping, import duties and taxes, the price for the parts is usually double the original price.

I can imagine its horrible. On another forum I am part of, a gentlemen from Norway usually has lots of troubl getting things from the "States" shipped to him under a month. Craziness I tell ya!

How come you didn't buy any adjustable pieces? You're talking about putting air bags on the car possibly, but even if you don't do that and you just do lowering springs, you're going to want adjustable parts. Especially the panhard bar and lower control arms. When you lower a car the geometry goes way out of whack. I had to center my rear end with an adjustable panhard bar after I lowered it, it was off by about an inch and a half.

Didnt think about it screwing with the geometry though, I didn't think deep enough about it I guess. Thanks for the pointer!

Yeah 91-92 cars got the bowtie grill from the factory. Removing stock manifolds is never an easy job. I've had so many cuts from doing just that. I've never broken a bolt however. Someone else will have to chime in here to help you with that. Good progress so far though.

As far as I can tell there are only a couple ways to skin this cat, and two of which I am NOT familiar with in any way. Welding, sure... Tried welding a nut onto it, and building up some weld to get vice grips on. WD-40 soaking might be the only treatment next to calling for help.
Hey... I'm only 19 and don't know everything right?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bolt extraction:
The bolt that broke is in front of the #3 exhaust port. It broke off almost flush, I have a lot of room to work (relatively..), I do have an angle power drill.
Just to clarify my situation I'm in.
Thanks!!

Re: 1991 Z28
Got the starter out today resulting in 5 stitches.... Really. I was reaching way over my head (under the car) and wasn't ready for the second mounting bolt to drop out. Damn that thing is heavy... My pointer finger broke the 1 foot fall against the cement. First time I saw one of my bones in real life though! That put a quick end to an afternoon in the garage.
Also got a new fan switch in (old on broke off removing the old manifolds), put some plugs here and there, finished up re-routing some coolant lines away from the throttle body too. Ended up having to buy a new heater valve too. S.O.B. broke off when putting on a hose clamp (20 year old plastic). Anyways, the passengers side is ready for the header someday...
Picture doesn't to the depth of the gash justice, its kind of gross so click at your own discretion I guess.

Re: 1991 Z28
I know the feeling. Few months ago I had a complete rear axle fall on my middle finger on my right hand. 5 stitches. 1" wide pressure gash. The skin wasn't cut. Hurt like a son of a bitch! It's been "healed" for about 4 days now and it happened back in January.

Re: 1991 Z28
Three months? Wow... I guess I got "lucky". Honestly, the ONLY things that hurt, and they were very unpleasant were the local anesthetic the doc put into the area with a needle (counted 3 injections), and the stitching needle he used seconds after. I about jumped of of the bed!
Anyways, it still doesn't hurt a bit lol. I am just going to wait it out and let it heal cleanly. Dont need an infection...

Man, he gave me the three, and proceeded to start using the needle within 30 seconds of the last injection. I swear he like watching me squirm... Pulling them out was cake. Lots of Captain Morgan will give anyone the courage

Re: 1991 Z28
Thanks! Rims and Tint will do a lot for a car...
As far as tearing into the engine again, I have to re-seal the intake manifold. It is leaking in the back quite badly...
However this time, I will likely take the time to clean up the casting flaws in the lower intake manifold and open the plenum/runners up a little. Nothing crazy. I would really like to try out polishing the intake setup too.
Also, there seems to be a miss that comes and goes. I have a suspicion that it is the old corroded dizzy. Some pieces flaked off and fell out last time I took it out.... At least, I hope hats it.
The heater core is shot too. Seems like there's a lot of things in the way of me just enjoying the car for what it is at the moment.

Re: 1991 Z28
Cat back is done, and I got some new wheels/tires in trade for the Handler 140 I had... $1200 in wheels/tires was too much to pass up. Besides, I have other welders to use.
Wheels are Centerline Rev's (15x8 rear, 15x4 front). Tires are Mickey Thompson 235r 60's in the back. About 50 miles on it all. Before anybody says it, I know the car nowhere near needs the tires. It was just a great deal.
Whats left:
Heater core leaks
Intake manifold drips oil in the back...
I really like how the car looks with the new meats

Stone ( never-mind, I just read where you wrote "Before anybody says it, I know the car nowhere near needs the tires. It was just a great deal. ) Can't wait to see if you plan to do a nice sound system in it... gl!
