front of bodykit scrape

I've noticed that a lot of people's 92 camaros have a scrape on the front of the body kit... most likely from steep driveways, it happens to me all the time...
i have two questions... is there any way to prevent this from happening other than not going up steep driveways? like a technique or something?

and also, has anyone put like a metal bolt or something to protect the plastic?

Re: front of bodykit scrape

its not just 92's most do expecially iroc-z's and later z28's i would belive since there (i think) stock the most lowest. i know if you are going in a steep driveway you will wanna go at an angle and of course slow but i dont know if that applies with speed bumps and whatnot. maybe you can get the clear bra on the lip so it protects it a little more? also a full front mask lebra protects it majorly and you dont cry everytime you go over a bump.
hmm maybe we should make this a gallery??? heres mine lol

there really isnt many scrapes exept for a few small ones, but having only 27k miles doesnt hurt either

My car has this too, obviously... Im now thinking about making some sort of subtle air splitter just to function as a guard.

Re: front of bodykit scrape

My car is the king of this problem,
the previous owner put tiny tiny wheels so the front spoiler is just wrecked.
I got the idea of a rhino-lining like product and then painting over that for the underside.
Idk how that'd work it was just what i thought.

Appears to fit only because I got out of the car to take the picture. When I sit in the car it slightly scrapes when parking it in the garage.

Best solution I found is to only park in reverse. That way the nose scrapes, but only the underside takes visible scratches. To be honest, I always parked my cars backwards due to tighter turning circles.

Re: front of bodykit scrape

if you've ever had it on a flatbed, you'll probably have damage from the cable
if you've ever driven less than 100 feet behind another car you'll probably have rock chips
if you've ever driven if front first into a parking spot with a concrete curb in front of you you'll have a bent air dam and scratched up valence
if you've ever driven it onto a steep incline you'll have scrapes on the front center of the valence
if you've ever thrown an engine lift under the front of the car, dropped a socket while standing in front of the motor, or kicked it while bending over the engine, you'll have beauty marks for that
if it's lowered you will have most of that damage

Re: front of bodykit scrape

Solution; drive a Firebird. Lol. It seems this problem is much more uncommon with Trans Ams and Firebirds because of the overall stance of the car. Unless they're extremely lowered. Yet my air dam does still scrape on everything. And I'm only sitting about an inch lower than stock.

Re: front of bodykit scrape

if your driveing a camaro at least you can replace the ground effect if needed...but if you drive a gta or somthing like that you have to replace the whole nose....that would be unfortunate

I don't scrape my lip even after lowering my car 3.5". It's all in how you drive it.

Re: front of bodykit scrape

To a certain extent. But it's mostly technique. Take driveways at a 45* or greater. NEVER approach anything straight on. Idle up driveways and over speed bumps. I try to drive only on firmiliar territory. Drive slow when necessary, avoid crappy roads and pot holes. Plan your route before you leave. In fact, when I see a speed bump I will just park and walk. I mean our front lips are at least 5 inches off the ground, my GTI is less than 2 and I hardly ever scrape that.

Re: front of bodykit scrape

I used to have problems with this, but he's right. You really have to know how to drive it and you won't have any problems. I take most bumps/entrances/whatever at an angle to cut off scraping. You'll also need to take it slow so you can creep over what you're driving (entering OR leaving). I don't scrape anymore (or VERY rarily, and it's not the bottom of the lip moreso than the shield underneath the car and very slight at that). Just pay attention and you'll be fine.

Re: front of bodykit scrape

I think the problem is that the nose is longer in front of the front wheels than most cars so even the slightest angled sidewalk/speedbump will scrape it, especially if you are low. The only way to solve this is like bglancer71 said, go on an angle so that the tire contacts the speedbump/sidewalk as early as possible, which will raise the front end of that car just enough to get the other front tire on it before the front comes into contact with it.. It's just a matter of doing this right everytime, but again it depends how low the car is. Mine scrapes slightly in the morning when the tires are cold and I'm actually higher than stock because of MOOG springs and 4th gen isolators. When I pull in after a long drive, the tires are warm and thus more inflated and it doesn't scrape, just barely making it!

I had that done on mine, but the whole GFX, it serves its purpose but I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't a daily driver. The Rhino-Liner product is actually clear, pigment is added prior to spraying it on so there's no need to paint it afterward.

I commute quite often on a ferry to cross the Puget Sound and the ramp is more often than not set too steep for my GFX. Since it's more than one lane of traffic boarding or offloading, there's no way to turn and take the ramp at an angle. Instead, it's slow way down and still scape the nose.
