AmericanIROC - 85 Z28 Project
Since I've finally finished my Jeep YJ TPI350 project I've decided to move on to something a little faster.
I spent months looking at older Camaros, Firebirds and Corvettes. I finally decided that I'm not going to buy something that needs extensive rust repair so I can own a $5-10,000.00 car just to get started with.... no matter how much I like them.
So I started looking around at 3rd Gen Camaros. Found an 85 rolling shell, no motor, transmission, hood, steering column and a few other minor things. Interior is shot.
The good is that it's pretty darn straight, all the glass is good and there is no rust other than some very light surface rust here and there. Also, it's a non T-top car, which I wanted.
I've already picked up a steering column (with a key) so I can more easily move the thing around. I'm going to start by stripping the interior.
So what am I going to build?
Basically it's going to be a black on black Pro Touring type of car. It will be reliable and streetable enough to drive cross country but nasty enough to make me smile. I'm shooting for around 450-500HP but am not sure if I'm going LSx (probably LQ9 stroked to over 400 CI if I do) or build a real nice SBC of some sort.
Here's a few links to 3rd Gen cars that will have some sort of influence on my build:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2561989
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2162984
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conver...iroc-swap.html
This much I do know:
BMR K-member, coil overs, subframe connectors, etc.
Willwood, Baer or Vette brakes (flynbye.com) F&R
Covan dash with AutoMeter gauges
Most likely an automatic, 700R4 or 4L60E
Sparco or Recaro seats & harnesses
4 Point cage
I have a list going in the parts wanted section here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...ion-parts.html
Anyway.. I'm sure much will change as I go and it will be a few months before I really get to dive in to it but here's a few pics of the patient.

Thanks. ThirdGen was helpful in dealing with various TPI issues. I actually have just a few more items to install, rock sliders/steps and some SS braided fuel lines and I'm finished.... for now....until I break something.

Re: AmericanIROC - 85 Z28 Project
Took her to a new temporary home out of the weather today until I finish some projects at home and can make some room. Left the hatch and windows open to air out, maybe anything living in there will vacate...
Did strip out the rear plastic and carpet as it was all nasty and wet, no rust anywhere though. Plan on pulling the seats and the rest of the carpet and panels when I get a few extra hours to do so.
Received my steering column and am waiting on a Grant wheel I bought on the forums here so it will be a little easier to move around.
Here's a few pics.
New home for now...
Had a trunk full of water but amazingly no rust.
Pretty empty but it's all coming out anyway.
More pics in my album.

Re: AmericanIROC - 85 Z28 Project
Small update. Adding to my growing collection of LSx parts today by picking up a 6.0 LQ4 block and heads along with a harness. A starting point at least.
Still need some LQ9 rods an LS6 intake and an F body oil pan.
