Re: Update on my build
One of the sickest third-gens I've seen out there. That thing is super clean. That kind of build shows the potential of a third-gen to all of the nay-sayers out there.

Saw that pic in GM High Tech Performance. They said, "look for more on this car in the future". Any idea when they are gonna do a feature on your car?

Re: Update on my build
Ok so I finally got time to work on the interior.
Just a couple of pics first to show you the current state of the car. Engine is out, short block is getting rebuilt to handle anything I can throw at it. I had a catastrophic oil pump failure @6K+ RPM. It was time for improvement anyways... heh.
Its sleeping under the blanket while I work on the interior pieces.

Re: Update on my build
The bad thing is that the interior is suppose to be done. My stock trims were grey, I wanted them black. I paid a pro who owns a detailing shop to redo/repair/paint all the trims. I got them about 2 days ago after I handed them, and they were all wrapped in bubble wrap. I could see they were black, and when I looked at the little pieces that werent wrapped, they were looking ok. So I let everything wrapped since I wasnt ready to put them back in the car. Fast foward summer '10, I remove the wrap from the trims, and yeah, you guessed it, they all look like ****. There is paint runs, they werent even washed before shooting, cracks and scratches were still there and I could flake the paint with little pressure from my nails.
Now that is being said, I decided I would redo everything and fix everything that bugged me. I decided to re-wrap everything using All Sports 4 ways strech black vinyl. I never did this, but its a good time to learn. All of the trim repair were done using fiberglass mat and resin. Finishing putty was then used for final look.
I built custom enclosures in the front kick panels for my 6" speakers.
I shaved the hole of the elbow rest in the door handle trims cause my seats are too wide and I chose to delete them.
Modified the rear trims by shaving the notch for the defrost wires and the cargo roll cover. I removed the rear seats lock pins too. I installed the air ports in the drivers side trim too.

Re: Update on my build
I repaired the rear headliner trim as it was cracked on both ends.
So heres what I start with my wrapping test. Everything has been througly washed. I cut a rough piece of vinyl to cover a little more than the trim. Next step is to apply the glue. I went with 3M Fastbond 30NF, its water based, pretty liquid and is applied using a paint brush or a roller. I did the same on the vinyl. They say that you need to wait about 30 minutes for the glue to be dry before assembling them together. I had
more success with 2+ hours.
Thats where Im at now.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Im working on custom rear panels for a 8" subwoofer on each side. They will blend better with the carpet since I dont have any seats in the back.

Re: Update on my build
I remember in another thread where you linked where you were going to get the vinyl. Where was that? Also what all are you going to wrap in it. I am very intrigued in how the rounded parts come out.

Re: Update on my build
I got the vinyl from EBay. Just type "All Sports 4 way vinyl" and a couple of vendors will pop up. Ill wrap everything I can, Im practicing now, kick panels are the worst in my opinion. The big trim pieces looks pretty simple.

Re: Update on my build
Nice work so far. If the headliner trim doesn't work, Classic Industries sells a NOS piece for about $70 (mine had cracks on both ends as well).
What kind of rims are you running?

Re: Update on my build
Ok so here are the first pics of the completed product. So far Ive learned a lot and finished 3 pieces. 2 Kick panels and the headliner trim.
I still have to do the finishing touch (add a little black paint on the edges, remove glue residue). This vinyl is awesome, with a little heat, it can stretch pretty great!
Another thing I learned... if your trims have been repainted, Youll need to sand them down back to their original finish, because the glue will only bond to the paint. Aask me how I know...
More to come soon.

They are Falken Fk451
Nah, just take your time doing it, apply a little heat with a heat gun or a hair dryer when you feel its necessary. 4 way vinyl is damn awesome.

Good to know, thank you. Some of the plastics just won't look good no matter what you do with them.
This might be the way to go for me too.

Re: Update on my build
They seem to have good reviews overall, especially for the price. I see they've been discontinued for the fk452s, which are supposedly better, but those are seeming to get worse reviews?

I love them, traction is excellent and they corner pretty good too. I cant see anything about rain because I have never driven with them in it, and never will. Ill probably swap them for drag radial when theyre done. Dollar for dollar, you cant beat the performance. I have not check reviews of 452s.

How many yards of vinyl did you get? I am looking at ordering some and don't know how much it will take. . I figure I want to do everything from the sail panel plastic back.
