The FREE Iroc
I got this car for FREE.....WOOHOO. All I wanted was to buy the back rims, so I asked the lady I was interested in the rims. She said I could have the whole car for FREE, I was like ok..hehehe. Now all I need is a set of used struts & hub assembly so I can tow her home.
The bad is that her pass qtr is kinked, don't know how bad until I ger her home.
Should I fix her or gut her? Tell me you all think, ohh yeah its a 88 or 89 T-top Iroc.

Lately I've been running into alot of good deals on camaros. Heres a few of them.
1. Free Iroc
2. $1500 91' Z28 (Bad Fuel Pump)
3. $2500 for 2 Z28's a- 92'Z modded motor (smashed drivers a-pillar from hit & run) b-91'Z excellent condition (Owner bought a 4th gen)
4. $9400 99'SS moed (Need to sell before divorce is settled)
All these deals the cars look good with very little or no surface rust.

i dont mean to jack this thread but i wanted to inform that there are still good deals out there, a month ago i picked up my 84 z-28 for free... well, turns out 100$, i got for free cause previous owner thought they couldn't get a title cause of a lien situation and lien holder unable to be found, and so kept it in their garage for 9 years, then got tired of it so i got it from them to either part out or build race car with, did some homework and lien is expired, called them up and offered 100$ for them to pull a copy of the title and sign it over, they aren't mad cause they get their garage back, now mine is full

Re: The FREE Iroc
I hate to see a third-gen die, but I would vote to part that thing out.
You can get $150 around here just for the cat at the scrap yard because of its nickel content.
I'd say there's some serious frame damage there and it would cost you a fortune to put back together well enough to have a decent ride.

Not a 1990 IROC, it has t-tops. Part it man, you already said that was going to be a money pit. Let some others get parts to "restore" more cars. your not crushing, youre restoring!

Re: The FREE Iroc
That car died a long time ago when it got hit. No way to save it worth the trouble.
I say take everything good that you can get off of it, and sell. Then, take the shell of the car, and start cutting it into managable pieces with the sawzall. Bring the whole car to the scrapyard, in a dump trailer, cut apart. Crap iron is up to $.15 a pound around here.

90 Iroc's came with t-tops too didn't they?
I say part it out. I think it would be more hassle than it's worth to fix the passenger quarter.

Im not sure what year it is, it was her sons car & now has a new one. She said its been there for 5 yrs. Im not sure if she has the keys or title. I also need to get some used struts & hub assembly so I can tow her home & see the extent of the damage.
Then when I get her home Im gonna call up my friend who has a body shop to come over & get his professinal oppinion.

Re: The FREE Iroc
i'm gonna say depending on what types are parts you use... if i did this myself i would buy a $100-200 quarter panel and cut off the old one.... its most likely gonna need some pulling on a frame machine... it need to be measured using spec sheet specs... but if a shop was going to do it i would guess around 2-3k for the quarter....

Re: The FREE Iroc
It looks like it got rear ended, bent the frame, and kinked the quarter like that...just a guess though. It doesn't look too bad, but would probably be cheaper to buy one in better condition to fix if you can't do the work yourself. One more vote for part it out.
Also, that headliner is nice! Bet you could get a pretty penny for that!

Re: The FREE Iroc
That's a tuff one. I really hate to see em junked but at the same time it is pretty rough. I would definately say look it over real good before deciding. You got it for free so your already up one. That means what ever you invest in it it will be easier to get it back out. If it only needs about 3 grand in work to get it in good shape then I say do it. It's worth that much in good shape. But if it's gonna take more than it's worth then I say take what ever parts you can and put her out of her misery. Is the motor in it. How about the t-tops and the hood? Just things to consider in your decision.

Has the engine TBI by the looks of it didn't really go through her yet. No tops as of yet or hood, but for a black car sitting in the elements the paint is in good shape.

Re: The FREE Iroc
I still say restore. Quarter panels are no big deal now days if you know someone who can do it.
If not put just enough into to drive and put it on list of things to do. I think all the Z28, IROC,
GTA etc should be saved. Just my opinion.

Re: The FREE Iroc
I say don't count it out just yet. Wait till you can get her home and evaluate it then. If you got room and time I say work on it while you can. At the very least you could make a pretty mean drag car. I got a set of t-tops for sale on here if you are intersted. I'll go make a quick post on it so you can find it under the new post area here so you can look at what I got. Just make me an offer. I know shipping it to hawaii will be pretty expensive so I'll let it go for pretty cheap to help save you some money. I don't have the front suspension pieces but alot of body pieces. Let me know.

Re: The FREE Iroc
Oh karl do you have a better pic of the dash. I'm pretty sure it is a 90 since it has the airbag and 90 was the first year for the airbag in the camaro. But can't tell for sure with out seeing the gauges. And for some people the 90 iroc's did have the t-top option. If it's a 90 I would definately try saving it since 90 was the lowest production year of the third gen's and the iroc. Definately makes it more of a collectible.

Are you sure that that is an IROC-Z, and not just an RS with some IROC wheels in the back? I know that they made a few IROCs with the LO3 motor, but I have never seen a '90 IROC with TBI. You should make sure, because a '90 IROC is worth a bit more than a '90 RS. Just one more thing to consider.
