Tail Light Amber Delete, Tell Me What You Think
Decided to paint the amber over with red. Painted them from the inside with Candy Apple Red Translucent i think its called. They were also tinted from the outside with Niteshades. Tell me your opinion/ways to improve. Heres a pic;

Thats really clean, i like it!!! Sure saves time trying to get a couple sets of taillights and transplanting the lenses from one into another. Good job!

Looks awesome. Do you have any pics of the lights taken apart? I want to do this to my set but don't want to break them. How many coats of niteshade did you use?

Truthfully, I didn't take them apart, I just sprayed through the light hole very carefully. I was afraid to crack the lens if I tried to pull it apart. And i believe that is 3 coats? I kind of forget, it was a little bit ago when I did the Niteshades.

Re: Tail Light Amber Delete, Tell Me What You Think
I was gonna ask if you sprayed through the holes, cause it looks like the edges of the reverse lights are pink now from overspray. Maybe just the picture? I have a second set and sprayed the red on the outside and they turned out really nice.

That's what I'll probably end up doing. What did you clean the lenses with first? How many stages of all the products used? I'm assuming you clean the WHOLE lens section, paint the amber part, and then clear the whole thing? Sanding involved?

Re: Tail Light Amber Delete, Tell Me What You Think
I used the clear coat with couple drops of black paint to tint the lenses, and used about 4 light coats (not really dark). I only did one, and have not done the other. I installed the one I had and decided that I really did not like the look as much as I thought I would.

Re: Tail Light Amber Delete, Tell Me What You Think
You should have just taken them apart then you wouldnt have that overspray. Then you get to clean the inside of the lens and the reflectors as they get really dirty. That is very noticeable overspray in my opinion...Plus since you are spraying so much through that hole to try and cover the lens you also block over the reflectors. If you take them apart and spray them and do a light coat of nightshades you cant even tell they were amber to start with plus you wont get overspray. I have posted several times of my method, its in a couple write-ups detailed with a few pictures and also how to take them apart. I would have to find them though.
That is how i do them and always have and they have always turned out great.
Nice car though

Re: Tail Light Amber Delete, Tell Me What You Think
If you have added a layer of red, it woulda finished off the amber to red conversion. They'll really just a darker/KINDA red tinted amber now, but still amber..
Put a layer of red on the outside now, and you'll have it!

Re: Tail Light Amber Delete, Tell Me What You Think
If you look at the original photos of the lights and the pics of them on the car, you can notice them being more red because I added an extra coat of red since then, but yea I'm thinking of just starting all over with fresh tails...
