Bringing this back from the dead a bit, but it's given more time to test Curious as to how it's holding up. How well do the doors seal, do they close tight etc. Interested to see how they're holding over time.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
the drivers door we got lucky on and everything is perfect. seals like it did originally.
the passenger side door was a little harder but we got it close enough. its a little crooked so you have to put pressure on the top of the window as you close the door or it wont tuck under the ttops. no biggie. i RARELY drive with the tops in nowadays. now that i have a daily driver that is.
the struts are still as good as day one... just squeak a little. i neglected to reinstall the wheel wells so a lot of dirt got up in there. oh well. i have yet to finish off cutting the bottom hinge off and cleaning them up.
still love showing off haha

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
The funniest part of this picture is the old guy that looks like he's wearing a diaper under his shorts. Do you think the Civic is his? hehe. Anyway, very nice job in the door. From what I see in the pics, my area of concern would be the mounting point for the hydraulic cylinders behind the fender. That metal isn't all that thick (going by memory here) and you have alot of force being applied at that point. Good job in making it happen and not letting "the doors are too heavy on our cars" stop you.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
there is a plate that is bolted/welded to the car where the struts screw into. it is 1/4" thick to reinforce the area and give something to tap for screwing in the struts.
thanks!
thanks!

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
I had that kit on my car and took it off.
Reasons:
-Not track legal, I don't even go to the track but hope to soon just to see what it will run.
-door open amount, too little
and finally the bigest issue.
The door only is attatched to the car in 2 places, not triangulated. If you grab the top and bottom of a door that has these hinges you can "wiggle" it like you are checking ball joints on your car.
To unstable for me.

my doors dont wiggle
and its very easy to get out of the car when the windows are down and tops off (which is the only way i drive it!) without swinging the doors up.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
I have a hardtop and drive mine a ton, so I guess we are dif. there.
My 6 point gets in the way a little too.
Grab the top and bottom of your door. Best if done with your door shut to see the results. Your door is held at the striker, and at 1 other point, the lambo hinge. Thats it. The only thing making it not wiggle is good weatherstripping then. Cuz anything that is held by only two points by the laws of physics, is going to be unstable and able to "wiggle". Thats why when you want to prop your camera up, you use a tri-pod, not a set of stilts.
With thats said, install looks great and hope to see pics after it is cleaned up. Hope it all works out.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
i dont know wehre you guys are from that you see lambo doors all the time but i'm from central jersey and i never see any lambo doors really....i did see them on a zo6 vette and it looked awesome....i think the lambo doors on these cars are pretty good lookingfrom what i can see from the first post, i wouldnt do it myself because like someone said, after the first few times, you can get tired of it, just like anything else, its fun till the fun wears out....i think that it looks pretty awesome and really sets off some glamor for these cars, and a little bit of hottness and i think it kidna modern-izes it a bit, again i wouldnt do it to mine because of the daily driver-ness and the fact that i dont have $450 but i again, i think it looks pretty damn good, and thats my 2 cents

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
UDAMON....How tall are the doors when opened to their highest point?
I'm curious if they'd clear my car port ceiling. It's not super short, but it exactly TALL either.

Looks good, I have seen a few cars with the lambo style doors but luckly for me I have a factory gullwing car for shows but can't wait to get the TA done and show it off. Might not get the attention the DMC does but it is still my fav of the two.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
I have seen lambo door kits that can be opened like regular doors or go up like the lambo. Wouldn't that solve the track issue or let u use them regular when u don't feel like lifting them up? Im sure the track isn't going to check what kind of hinges are on your door

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
I've never seen seen one that can fully do either. Just the ones that swing straight out (stock-style) about half way, then go up "suicide" style. Those hafta do that for door to fender clearance.

It was awhile back when i seen them, it had a pin or something that you had to put in or either put in a different spot for it to open like a regular door or like the lambo

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
I think it looks great man, good job, i want to do that to mine later, the one problem is i dont want to have to switch to manual windows and locks, would it be possible just to extend the wire loom(and wires) from the cab to the door so i can still have power locks and windows to the door when i go up with the door? Or would that interfere with something?

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
Yeah, i think they look great, i will def do those doors once im done with my active duty in the USMC, and alright, ill look for the looms. I have been looking at lambo doors on our 3rdgens for awhile and i have not been able to find a single one that looks like it has power locks and windows so thats why i was curious. Im also thinking about doing vette handle swaps as well.

What do you mean reroute them into the fender? like take the wires into the engine compartment and run the wires through the panel so they are behind the fender and run into the door from there instead of where the original boot is?

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
Yeah. Wherever the vertical hinges mount, you'll want to get the body side of the wires to that point, then into the door. Might hafta route them along the hinges, but at the same time, preventing them from getting pinched in the hinges or the lift struts.

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
it looks like you had to get rid of your factory antenna because the passenger side hinge was in the way. Did you put anything in the place of the empty antenna hole? Or aftermarket antenna routed to somewhere else?

Re: Vertical / Lambo doors are on!
correct. i shaved the antenna but never got around to trying anything as a replacement antenna.
as an update im not driving the car currently. it crapped out on me this fall and i just havent been motivated to fix it. plus there are too many little things here and there that need attention and with winter coming and all i just wound up buying another car as a DD and now thats demanding more time and money then its worth hah... oh well
doors are still working fine though. i do plan to relocate the struts so they are vertical instead of horizontal that way i can run wheelwells again and just keep everything under there clean.
