best looking wheel size in your opinion?

Wanting to upgrade my RS with some new wheels. . . definitely leaning towards iroc chrome replicas. . . I've photoshopped what 16's would look like on it. . . . but would like others inputs and maybe some more photochops?

Also, if you have a red fb or cammy, post some pics of your wheels with size

(i know this is opinion based really. . but i can't decide)

thanks

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

I dont like stupid big wheels on these cars...

Ultra low profile tires only work with rims that have no dish to them. I like a lot of dish to my wheels, makes the car look a lot more aggressive, IMO. So to me that's the balance. If you want the normal offset I say 16's and 17's look the best.If you go bigger than than 18 you need to lose most of that dish, sometimes it looks okay, and even looks good, but I'd prefer a regular 16-17 inch wheel.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

Well, that entirely depends on the car in my opinion. If you're looking for old school muscle, go with small 15 inch, but wide rims,. If you're keeping her mostly stock, I'd give it a max of 17. If you're modernizing her like myself to make her look like an old school car that seriously kept up with the times, go for 18's.

It's all about the image and the type of car you really want. Yours looks pretty stock right now, so unless you're thinking about adding a new hood or grill or whatever else, I'd keep at 17 as the others indicated.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

I would never go bigger than a 17" wheel. That's a big enough wheel to get some nice brakes behind (C5s ) but also small enough to still have some sidewall to the tires that looks good. I've seen a few cars that can pull off 18s but I have never seen a Camaro with bigger wheels that I thought looked good. 17s also give you a good median between turning performance and ride quality becuase there is still some sidewall to absorb the bumps.

17's and 18's look fine, but anything larger starts to look silly.

Yeah, thanks for the pics dude. I'm getting 18's, after comparing your pics, I'm definitely going to stick with that choice considering what I'm planning.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

I say 18's, but it depends on the wheel style, and what you are looking for... I have 18"s not installed yet. There are advantages of both. 17's probably have more advantages, but I was willing to sacrifice that for looks.

I love 18's...16's are ok if you want the stock IROC look 17's are sweet. Check out mine it's on 18's my next step is to lower the car a little.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

I have 18" American Racing Chrome Iroc Replica's on a 1991 RS...here's a pic. I would like to lower it about an inch. I saw 20's on one and they are way to big. I think 18's in this style are just right and even look ok without lowering. For tires I have BF Goodrich g-force T/A KDW-2 245/40ZR18.

I just put a set of 18" American Racing Chrome Iroc Replicas on my car and I think the look is perfect. As far as rims in general I think there should be no bigger than 18's and no smaller than 17". now there are a few cars that can pull off 19s but very few can do it right. Thats just my

I have the 17"s on mine which look really good but I would have to say 18"s look the best all around for our type of cars...that will be my next upgrade with Baer Brakes, definitely no bigger than 18"s!

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

I think it depends on what you are trying to do. 15's are too small. The stock IROC's and Z28's look good as 16's and I have a set of each in silver and gold. 17 IROC's look great. 18's could be the best aftermarket size.

17" is the perfect blend. If you notice, you'll have people who say 16's are too small and 18's are too big, but almost noone on here says anything negative about 17s. There's a reason for that.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

Gunny I agree with you on the 17's. No complaints about the 17's and it becomes a matter of taste to go higher or lower. I think cars without GFX shouldn't go higher than 17 though. I have seen some 18's on those and they looked a lot bigger without the extra plastic around them. I take that back...I just looked at Digital8's above and they look pretty darn good. In the end, it's what you like since it is your car.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

Well, i'll be getting American Racing Torque Thrusts, I'm pretty confidend that 18's will suit me better, but I'll still want to compare 17, 18 and 19's somehow. My impression will be that the 19's look stupid, too much rim, no rubber, 17's will look good, but 18's perfect. Again, depends of the style of the car.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

A couple years ago I would have said anything bigger then a 17" looks ridiculous. But my opinions changed. It depends alot on the stance and look of the car. Like a Camaro with a 4" cowl hood will probably look the best with a 15-16" tire, cause it has more of a drag racing look to it. If your car is aimed more a pro touring stance 18's look great.

I just went to 18's cause after this winter's World of Wheels show I noticed that it seemed like every car had 18"s or bigger on it, and my 17's just looked really small in comparison and it didn't seem to look right to me.

Thanks Man ..most people say the same thing every time about the non GFX Camaros. I was actually going to put a kit on it about 4 yrs ago but a decided to leave as is to be different. I'm glad I did and now I'm looking for a new project a 3rd Gen Formula and it will have 18's. As you can tell I like the the non-GFX 3rd Gens, if done right they look stealthy.

Most 18" rims look really good on these cars. IIRC that one Japanese Camaro had 19" rims and it looked nice. I would love to have a set of 19" ccw wheels with 15" brakes behind them. The t10 wheel looks amazing.

17" or 18" depending on how the car sits, no bigger though.

I have 17" see my garage pic even though it's old and the car is not done you can still get a good idea of the look.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

Ive got Eagle Alloy 077 wheels on mine. Theyre 18s and I think its one of the best exterior mods Ive done. Ive got them wrapped in continental sport contact 2 tires in 255/35/18 and 275/40/18. I have to agree that 18s set off these cars very nicely, however anything bigger just doesnt look good.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

Got the American Racing Torque Thrust 2's in 18x10 on the RS convertible. They look great on there. But it dose need to be lowered and inch. I should be taking care of that in a week or so. Anyways. I always thought 17's were going to be the largest. Until I got curious one day and put a set of my brothers 20" 100 spoke chrome Dayton's on the IROC. Now the style looked all wrong. But I noticed that the fitment look pretty good and it seemed that 17's were going to be to small. So I started looking at bigger rims on here. And 18's seemed to be where it's at! They give the car a nice look and still has enough side wall for small bumps. And boy do they handle! They work better then the IROC did with the factory 16's. And that's still with the soft RS stuff on it. The only thing that can be a problem is if you have allot of power. 18 inch tires aren't cheap. And that's why they stay on the RS and not the IROC. lol. Adam :-)

IROC with the 20's (I DO NOT HAVE THEM ON THERE NOW. IT WAS A TEST!!!!)

I like 16s because the tires still have some meat on them however with there being no decent tires available wider than about 275 I'll be forced to run slicks on the street

i like 18s myself. If i had to do it again instead of getting 275 35 18s id get 275 40 18s, the 35 series is too small .

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

how's the ride feel with 18's? alot firmer? too harsh? with the ZO6 rims....you need spacers, right? are you afraid of weakness esp. in autoX?

I love those wheels, and that car I might add.

I love my 17's, but I gotta say that I think 18's look fantastic on our cars!

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

the phrase weakness and spacers should never be in the same sentence in my eyes. I have had 2" spacers on all 4 corners for 3000 miles and driving them hard with 0 neg things happen. People say they keep loosening, then grow some ***** and torque them down. last night i installed 1.5" ones on the rear as I swapped out my 2" ones. Damn they were hard to get off. all 5 lugs were very very tight, not too tight though. I am very happy with them, oh and yes these are the cheepo ones off ebay. They work great and if installed the right way work just as well as any other.

I take on ramps at 70 sometimes and drive my car hard on the street, the 2" ones I took off, look new still.

I have to agree, I have a ton of miles on my front spacers, and they havent loosened a bit. That plus the horrible Pittsburgh roads, I'm positive they arent gonna go anywhere.

Re: best looking wheel size in your opinion?

IMO, 17" is the perfect size. Cars with 17" wheels seem to have the best-balanced look, overall.

I've seen a few cars here with 18" wheels that look good, but that can be difficult to achieve. Because with 18", it's important that you get everything 'right': style, ride height, tire size, etc., or you risk it all looking out of proportion with the car.

But with many 18s, and definitely with any size larger, you tend to notice nothing but WHEELS and little else.

Wheels should compliment the overall look of the car, not dominate it into submission. But again, that's just my
