Your wife might like it too, there's a ton of stuff going on in town during the event. It takes place Sep 9th-11th; check out the lsfest.com website and you'll see how much fun you could have with your car there. I'd park your car at the Holley truck in a second, but I don't make those kinds of decisions as a lowly design engineer.

She might... I'm not gonna rule it out, but its a LONG damn haul across the country from CO. Well I won't worry about the parking spot til this contraption is on the road, and then you can show suit and ties something worth looking at haha! I'm happy to know you would park it out there

I'll pass on the 16 hours in a rough riding, probably noisy, no hvac having car ride... with my wife complaining about it all. We'll just put it on the trailer and listen to the kids complain... hahaha! I hope by September to have a couple different races under its belt and maybe even a trophy or two by then. I need to get out the shop and get to work.

Spent a little time last night and this morning setting up the air intake tube set up, and I'm pretty sure I got it where it needs to be. Sending it to my buddy to be welded up, but now I'm not really sure I like the look of my strut tower brace with it...

I see no issue with it. Once it's properly centered, it'll look good imo. Also, it'll look completely different once you've got everything painted and ready to go.

Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Engine + much more :)
Well my wife let me play some more this weekend. I was able to get finish sanding done, and got my base coat applied. During my heavy 2nd coat I found that there was a solevent? bleed through that wrinkled my base in one small spot (highly visible to at least me), so I stopped there and I'm letting it cure enough to sand it back down, and will re-paint this. So was pretty bummed thinking that I would be able to have it in clear and possibly get to re-assembling later this week... Oh well! Better to have it done right than done quick.
Here is some pics:

Oh and I did this. Heatshield products heat barrier under the manifold. + 20hp/20ftlbs is what Super Chevy Mag was able to pull in their C5 on their dyno. I already had a roll for the trans tunnel, so what the heck, ya know.

Looks good man. Not sure what they did in the bay on these cars originally, but especially up by the firewall I had some bad chemical reactions last time I painted and again this time even with using a sealing primer.
SRS?
If it works tho, and pretty free to you so go for it.

I LOVE how black looks right after paint. The darkness... oh, the darkness... lol
Yeah, whatever they used definitely is a mean sonuvagun. Even after going over everything with mine (I didn't use primer, so that's on me), I ended up having a reaction on the D/S firewall near where they sprayed the seam sealer. Can't really tell though, with all of the other junk in the way.
I'm excited to see this thing finished. She's going to be a heart-breaker, that's for sure! lol

Well I'm taking it back to metal to make sure. I'm pretty sure mine is my fault Paint is a finiky biatch lol
So deep and dark. Can't wait to see it in clear coat. I am really excited to see it all come together. Gonna be a whole bunch of black. I'll need to make sure my polishing game is tight as anything that is not black is gonna stick out like a sore thumb.

No the PPIR event, where I'm not very likely to, but maybe get an invite to Vegas.
I'm likely gonna need it!
I am needing to find places for teal accents...
Thank you. I can't wait to show results. You are just down the road, so maybe you'll have to see it in person one of these days. I think I should be in a couple shows later in the summer.

I only took one picture, but I have nothing that is natural, or brushed finished under the hood, and I think it would look like I forgot about it. I'm on a time crunch, but still think painting it would look better than not.

Build looks amazing man. Sorry if u covered this as my phone would only load the last 50 responses (Shitty reception at work) but did u remove the factory firewall and weld in new panels? Or weld right over top the factory wall?

I learned picking up rocks from my kids haha!
Here is the link I posted earlier. I learned about this stuff from Larry Callahan from Pro-touring.com and bought it for my trans tunnel/underbody, but found that article when researching where to buy it at the best price. It will be interesting to see where is lands hp level on the dyno.
http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...ower-for-less/
Thank you. No, I left the factory firewall intact, and plated with 16ga (pretty sure) panel over the top. I kinda followed the idea that most of Pro-touring big builders that shave firewalls are using this method, and with that it will likely be ok for me too. I did make sure to use a much thicker panel to put over it to give less chance of flexing (I hope), and stay straighter when welded on.

Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Engine + much more :)
I know it's a little late now, but when you are spraying base, instead of spraying a full wet coat. Spray a medium wet coat and layer the paint allowing plenty of time normally 15-30 mins to flash before spraying the next coat. This should prevent the crazing you experienced. Also if it starts to react again in that spot spray your base dry for 3-5 coats until completely covered then you will be able to spray a medium wet coat over it. Then you will be able to tack off the base and clear as usual. Goodluck and don't forget to pray before you spray, sounds funny but it works. If you have any other paint related questions let me know Ill try to help ...Build is looking good, depending on how easy the radiator polishes Id polish it all you will see is the top and sides anyways... unless some wierdo is fine toothing the car, then you tell them to back up b/c they'll mess up the paint with their reflection lol

Well got so more time to play on the car. I busted butt and got the base repaired, re-sprayed which came out nice. Decided to go ahead and color sand the main focal areas underhood, and I shot clear super early the next morning....
In the early morning light
In the sunshine
Back in the shop
It all turning out really good. I did get a run being a dummy and getting distracted while holding the trigger down, and since it was sprayed open air in my parking lot I got a couple little piece of crap in the clear that will need to cut and polished out.
While I had guns out and stuff, I started painting some of the other parts that will need to be going on...
Kinda hard to tell what is all in there lol. You'll see soon enough.
Got my "new" lights (had them for almost a year lol) installed after cleaning up the retainer rings and giving the headlight bar a quick shot of a semi-gloss chassis paint.
Later dudes!

That engine bay came out flawless! Very impressed with everything on your car so far. Looks like this was built by a professional shop or something. Cant wait to see the final product when it is all done. Good luck with it!

Just remember, if you get an invite, the only thing OUSCI provides is tickets into SEMA and admission to the track as a competitor. All expenses related to getting the car there and being there for a week are your responsibility. And you are required to be there for the entire week. That invite can easily cost a couple grand in expenses to spend that week in Vegas with the car on display outside at SEMA. All of the competitors cars that won spots were parked outside in an alley between buildings last year.

Power for these is fun too. Direct power from the battery to each relay. They draw too much for the factory fuses to handle. The 13's are 23 amps each but do keep the car cool after removing the undersized connectors Spal used on their wiring. Those melted after a couple years of use causing the fan to stop running at an event.

2 13inch Spals will fit with the right shroud. If you plan on racing it you might want to add vents with flaps to it to allow the extra air to vent at high speeds. That's what those flaps are on the bottom of ours.

But if you run the novice group on the road course, remember the immortal words of Jimi Day from last year's Fontana event "You aren't here to win". Also check the date codes on your tires. They can't be more than 2 years old.

Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Engine + much more :)
Given the number of people signed up for Pike's Peak, you've got a decent shot at Spirit of the Event at least. Lots of big names are not attending the events this year and PPIR wasn't high on attendance last year either.
But if you run the novice group on the road course, remember the immortal words of Jimi Day from last year's Fontana event "You aren't here to win". Also check the date codes on your tires. They can't be more than 2 years old.
