LS wiring question
soon i will be doing an ls1 swap. i have a 92 camaro with the 305 tbi. i was reading the swap guide sticky and was reading about the wiring and my question is cant i just use the ls1 donor car engine harness, plug it into the ls1 pcm and then splice my cars harness into the other side of the pcm that goes to the dash and what not? the vats i already know about.

Re: LS wiring question
A harness of any type or engine has a few requirements to be met and it will work in any chassis. Locating these and finding a match in its desired new home are where the difficulty lies
For LT1 and LSx engines you need a handful of fuses and gauges connected plus the PCM tuned. Ive gone in great detail how to build a conversion harness in the stickys. If you want minimal effort, read and follow the 3rd gen harness prep thread and locate the necessary fuse and gauge pins from the C100 and C207. LT1swap.com has 4th gen body connector pinouts to ID your various connections
I wont go over the three wire rig because its unsafe and only for the incredibly lazy

Re: LS wiring question
I'm using a ls1 harness with a 4th gen engine bay harness and my advice would be to buy one from Pocket. It's nice knowing how everything is wired but has taken me wayyyy longer to get it right. You could sell your harness and buy his for not much more. It's more work than you think to extend the harnesses if it's your first time and you do it right. Just my 2 cents.

Re: LS wiring question
I'll never tell someone not to build their harness, it was a really valuable experience for me... I did purchase a fuse/relay block from pocket after my first attempt was horrible to look at.
Just ensure you do it properly, and read up on the basics of wiring techniques first. There is lots of info out there on how to do this!
However, a harness from pocket would clip right in and aesthetically be pleasing.
