Stock LS1 with a rebuilt T5wc? give it a chance!

I know this idea has been bashed all over... but it would make a lot of sense for me.

I need a new engine soon for my beloved daily driver. the 305 tbi is getting worn out and starting to show it. For drivability I am hoping to do a ls1 swap when i graduate in a year, but on a budget. I'm starting the research now and trying to make a game plan for small amount of down time. Less than a year ago I had my T5WC rebuilt with some upgrades. The mechanic said it should be fine to 380 ft/lbs. I could save a lot of money by using this T5 trans (and I really like the gearing but that's not a huge deal). I know it would be nice to just use a t56 but not cost effective.

Seeing as the ls1's stock are around 300hp and not exactly torque monsters like earlier generation options, do you guys really think the ls1 would still just eat my T5? Not trying to start a feud!

Thanks for any opinions!

if you baby it, it could last forever. if you beat it, it will break.

One of our esteemed members is in the process of doing what you're thinking about. Pocket is awesome so there's alot to be learned from him. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...wap-again.html

Absolutely true. My T5 has been dealing with over 400 ftlbs for years. But I bet with little effort I could blow it to pieces.

ok thanks for the responses. So it sounds like i could use the T5 and with mindful driving still have a reliable driver. I could live with that until a t56 came around

You will be fine. Keep stockish tires on it and get a good shifter. Don't miss 3rd and you will have it work for a long time.
